He wasn't shooting 40% from 3 when he signed that contract. He also had injuries looming over him. You're justifying his previous contract based on current production. I don't know where you get that a "lot of experts" disagree that Beverley is a good defender. I think the consensus is that he is. I do think he is overrated, including by "experts." The issue at hand is coming to that conclusion based on the sparse problematic data the OP presented, and whether that makes him a "fraud," a hugely subjective term that is completely besides the point as to whether or not he is a good defender.
The fact of the matter is there is a pattern of we playing better defense w/o Beverley and it's not just based on few games but goes all the way back to 2014-15 season. The sample size is sufficiently large enough to at least raise some eye brows. And my point is, we can't afford another mediocre, overrated defender on our back court. Otherwise, we're going to be keep having problems defending the perimeter. Every team has one sub par defender in their guard position, but good teams have players offset each other's weaknesses. We are not doing that right IMO. If we are going to have a defensive specialist, acquire a legitimate one. That's all I'm saying.
I don't see teams clamoring to acquire Beverley at all, and in fact last year there were rumors of him getting traded to other teams packaged with some other scrubs on our roster at a very cheap price. That's not how you treat a great defender who can also shoot 3 and average 10 ppg. And everyone pretty much agrees on what his offensive value is, so that can't be the issue.
Again... he wasn't that good of a shooter when he got signed. If he was a FA today, he would be fetching a lot more. The injuries are a concern however.
I'm talking about last year. Look up what kind of trade rumors were floating around regarding Beverley . His market value was really low.
The New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks were all teams calling for him in 2015 Oh and can't forget about his hometown Chicago
His market value is not low, especially by new cap figures. He's just not being shopped at the moment.
And at what price? http://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php...ade-beverley-ariza-and-mcdaniels-away.275666/ yeah, included in the package deal with Noel. WOW.
sorry it is very low to say the least. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php...ade-beverley-ariza-and-mcdaniels-away.275666/
not sure why're you're posting things that aren't credible. You said teams didn't want beverley but clearly there were a handful that did before he was locked up here in houston
You're saying that because we tried to ship Beverley and Ariza (coming off an awful season) and KJ McDaniels (who has yet to prove he can be a rotation player) for Nerlens Noel - while Philly was trying to gauge offers and get picks, never mind that they shipped KJ McD out because they weren't high on him - that Beverley's value is low? That, with all those variables, the major consideration is that Beverley wasn't good enough? OK.
yeah, Beverley's market value was really low, and Ariza is the superior player among those three, so the trade was more like Noel <---> Ariza + 2 replaceable players to balance out whatever gap there is between Noel and Ariza
Ariza had an awful 15-16, and even with his low pricetag there was a concern that he was not likely to equal his production from 13-14 or 14-15, even on this board. But OK.
you have absolutely no idea what his market value is so that's irrelevant. Not even sure why you're even trying to dive into that when you're basically speaking with no credibility. the fact still remains though he had plenty of interest around the league. Now that can't be disputed
Don't know what you're talking about. Ariza averaged 12.7 ppg while shooting 37% from three and played solid D. That's not awful relative to his expectation. And pretty much all advanced stats point to Ariza >>> Bev.
the interest is meaningless if teams are only willing to give up scrubs or pennies for him. are you just that dumb or do you not get what market value means?
says the guy who can only follow a topic based on "more straight-forward, easy to understand reasonable argument"
because I don't trust snake-oil peddlers. If you have facts on your side, you don't need to engage in cheap word play or manipulating numbers.
Bev has been GREAT this year - improved offense, still a good defender, not sure what you guys are talking about but he has been great for us. DD
