People want him because they think he can recruit and would stay long term. The problem with that is Les is already in his mid 60's, so "the long term" is 4-5 years.
Maybe not an official one but I could definitely see some small faction meeting with TF if he asked for one, even if just out of professional courtesy. But there is a large group of fans, students, and alumni that truly believe Briles got a raw deal and they're not afraid to express it. We saw it with the CAB shirts and banner hanging from one of the suites during a game. And then there was rumors of dissension among the regents on what to do with Briles when all of this was going down. Wouldn't be surprised at all if a few went to bat for him.
It would have to be people not affiliated with the school but somehow have knowledge of the situation. Anyone tied to the school saying "he didn't know" admits that Baylor fired him for no reason. That said...lets say for s**ts and giggles he didn't know. What does that say about him as a leader of a program?
I don't know if they could meet with him if they wanted to. Briles probably has some legal protection from his former employer giving details about their internal investigations to another potential employer.

Sources: Lane Kiffin and Les Miles candidates for Houston opening Former LSU coach Les Miles has been contacted about Houston's head coach vacancy and Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has also emerged as a candidate, sources told ESPN. "Les Miles has always recruited Texas (while head coach at LSU and Oklahoma State) and has friends in Houston," a source said. "It could be what Miles is looking for." Houston board of regents chairman Tilman Fertitta told the Houston Chronicle that Miles is under consideration. "I think we have some interest in him, and he has interest in us," Fertitta said. "I'm not saying he's No. 5 on the list or No. 1 on the list. He's just on the list." Miles had also been mentioned for the opening at Purdue, but sources said that was no longer a possibility. Kiffin is also the top choice to join LSU coach Ed Orgeron as the Tigers' offensive coordinator, the Baton Rouge Advocate reported. When asked specifically about Kiffin last week, Orgeron said: "All I'll say is I'll try to get the best coordinator in football." Houston, which must replace coach Tom Herman who left for Texas, is in the process of narrowing a list of candidates to between "five and six names," Fertitta told the Houston Chronicle. He said a decision could be made by the "middle of next week." A person with knowledge of the process told the Chronicle the school plans to contact West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen. However, a source told ESPN that it is "highly unlikely" Holgorsen would leave a Power 5 job at West Virginia for Houston. UH also plans to interview two in-house candidates -- interim coach/defensive coordinator Todd Orlando and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, the Chronicle reported. Fertitta said he has received numerous calls from those close to the Baylor program voicing support for former coach Art Briles.
Les Miles would be bad for everyone. He's not going to win anything at UH, but he is going to steal recruits from the Texas teams at the grown up table. I don't think UH can afford both Miles and good coordinators (long term).
I'm OK with Les Miles if his contract basically states he isn't allowed to take another college coaching job for the rest of his life. He's 63. Give us 10 years and call it a career dude. My two big fears are that he would just coast and cash checks like June Jones, or that he would bolt the moment an SEC job opened up. I can't see much of his staff coming to UH from LSU, either. So you basically end up with a big name coach but nothing to show for it.
