Agreed. I'm not trying to pretend he's a good defender, but he isn't the one spinning like a bottle top in the paint or getting eaten up on the perimeter. Nene is a total mess in the paint. Can't protect the rim, can't rotate on defense, just awful. Capela isn't amazing either but he can least block a shot every now and then. The defensive IQ in the paint is terrible. Anderson at least has the IQ for it, just not the physical ability. Anderson is a mixed bag right now, BUT, it's worth noting AGAIN, that the offense is the #1 offense in the NBA when the starters, including RYNO, are on the floor. Regardless of what you think of him, I still think it is silly and REEKS of agenda that last night's game of all games got this thread bumped and got him blamed for something.
Anderson was hardly the reason we lost to the Jazzholes... We were getting scorched regardless of whether or not Anderson played. Sometimes teams get hot and when teams get hot, they are almost impossible to beat unless our team gets hotter. It happens. Some of you need to move on. Just like our shooters don't stay hot every game, neither will the Jazz and any other team.
I think the people that are complaining more about Ryno would agree with this statement and note that might as well not have signed him to $18+ million a year. Personally, I don't agree to that extent. It's really fun to see what an offensive mind, 3 point capable PF can do when paired with Harden. I like Ryno, and like him on this team. But I think the contract was too much. Were we even bidding against anyone? I don't know... maybe its market. There aren't a lot of great comps, and when Bismack Biyombo gets 4 years, $70 million, well you know the market is crazy - though I think that deal was also universally looked at, even in the summer of spendings, as WTF?? If I look at the rest of the big man FA signings, Ryno's contract seems to be overpaying. The guy played 66 games last year, starting only 7. He started only 5 the year before, 14 the year before, 22 the year before, etc. He's basically only been a starter 1 year of his career. Sure, sometimes you can say that bench guy, he'll flourish in our system as a starter. But in this case, and already 27 year old PF who never seems to stay 100% healthy throughout the seasons and was always coming off the bench... you kind of know what you're getting. 4/$60 million should have been top market value, imo.
I'm not disagreeing he is overpaid. My statement that nothing changed was meant to point out that the defense didn't get better. The poster who bumped this was blaming RYNO for the loss last night to the Jazz. That's just stupid.
Wait, so let me get this straight man. The Rockets essentially paid 20 million per year to get Matt Bullard back on the team? And people are ok with this? No man, that's wrong.
Thanks for joining Clutchfans with yet another account DD. Hope to follow your journey to 100K on this one too
Anderson is not "the" reason we lost, but a game like that highlights his deficiencies as a 20m player. He brought nothing to help us compete and even get close to pulling out a victory. The "spacing" and shooting he provides is simply not worth what he's being paid. Its not a big deal now, but hopefully in the next few years the contract doesn't cost us.
no he spaces the floor though. he's a good floor spacer. he's floor spacing out there. also has a quick trigger so they cant leave him open for a split second. doestn do anything else though. i'd pay 20m per for that any day of the week if i was high on krispy kreme donuts
See, if you could play Anderson at the 5, forcing Gobert out of the paint, you probably have something....Gobert was the problem, he clogged the lane....have to make him guard a stretch 5. DD
Anderson would be such a crappy rebounder at the 5. He is already a mediocre rebounder at the 4 and you want him to try and box out even bigger, stronger guys?
And how is that any better? D-Mo is an even worse rebounder than Anderson. We are talking about a 7 footer that would rather box out for a PG than go up and grab the ball himself. It would be a case of the blind leading the blind.
You can definitely make an argument that Anderson creates opportunities for others via spacing. Houston is +5 net with him on the court. With him off they don't move the needle either way on D (mostly because they are pretty bad regardless). His box score stats are unremarkable and by RPM he's the 28th best PF in the league. But the fact that the offense hums much better with him on the court is good evidence that something outside of box score stats is working - namely that other players are scoring better when he's on the floor. Is that worth 20 million? I don't know, perhaps - net +5 is nothing to sneer at, but he's also injury prone and past his prime. I am impressed at Ryno's ability to take two great seasons in Orlando and turn it into a career of getting paid star money.
He's not getting paid star money. Star money is about 5M more at least IMO given the rise in contract money due to huge increase in cap.
