I like Ramos, and I've been advocating his signing, but he most definitely comes with a lot of risk, as he has had serious knee injuries in the past (and currently rehabbing from one). For a catcher, knee injuries are obviously big deals. I don't think he will return to being a full time C1, where he starts 100-125 games at catcher. I think that if we do sign Ramos, our front office would have to get creative, and use Gattis and Ramos in a unique way. Maybe neither can be C1's, but perhaps both can be C1-b's. Maybe having each catch about 80 games (or maybe 90 for Gattis, and 70 for Ramos) could keep their bodies both fresh over the course of the season, which would help keep them producing at the plate. When they are not catching, they could be the DH.

This would have to be in year 2 of Ramos, as I am pretty sure he won't be able to catch much at all this year, as again, he's coming off a major knee injury. I also don't think 5 years/$50M gets it done for him. At that point, I think he would take the calculated risk of signing a 1 or 2 year short-term deal, and then becoming a free agent again when he is still only 30 or 31.

790 mentioned Edwin as a strong possibility.

Here's the latest article as well.

Been reading rumors saying we're trying to load up on bats so we can deal one of Springer or Bregman for an ace, I'm sure that's been discussed here but I don't do much reading outside the GARM here.

Would absolutely love to have Edwin, but I hope the rumors above aren't true. Deal some guys in the farm system, sure. But I'd def prefer to stick with the loaded lineup Encarnacion would bring.

Now I wouldn't mind the signing specifically to make Brian look wrong. Dude has a weird issue with smugness.

Might depend on progress of the labor deal. Theoretically there could be a lockout at midnight, so one side or the other could force the issue depending on how they feel about the next labor agreement.

Being leaked for a reason.... obviously trying to stir up other offers or make another team bid higher.

Just by looking at his twitter bio, I don't see how Milbelt Rodriguez is in any position to know a damn thing about this.

I know nothing about him or the validity of his posts.

I just was saying that his agent said that something is likely to get done in a week or less.

Yes, I am sure.... my guess it is to try and get another possible team involved.... having said that, if I had to guess, Edwin will probably make a decision within a week.

Yeah, he pretty much has to. Offers tend to go down, not up, the more a player waits or plays hardball.

I would guess its between the Astros and Blue Jays... I just hate leaked reports involving the Astros because its almost assuredly due to the other party utilizing them as leverage. Luhnow and co. seem as tight lipped as anybody, with most moves/trades/signings happening with little to zero rumors or wherewithal.

Yeah, that wasn't really directed at you, and I read the same quote by his agent. I loved the other quote from his agent about factoring in the differing tax implications of potential destinations.

bobrek's right too, that the CBA negotiations may be holding up some things.

I honestly have no idea who it is down to, been too busy at work to really ask around. I know that the Astros have money to spend and I would prefer they spend it on Encarnacion than Rich Hill.

Well, EE will probably cost $60M+ more than Hill.

I was hoping they could get both; Martes should be ready to step in after Hill gets hurt.
