Could of had Maurice Speights for alot less..... Used that money on somebody else....or multiple players.
Michael Beasley? Seriously I would rather have Beasley as our starting PF. He is not a great 3 point shooter but he can do a lot more on other areas like mid range and attacking the basket. Not to mention how painful it is tonwatch Anderson on the defensive end.
i'd def go with a pf rotation of beasley, harrel, ariza and dekker than giving anderson 20m for more than 2 years. next ofseason and draft > this one.
The Jazz have been playing some solid basketball. And what does losing to the Jazz have to do with anything?
Ryan Anderson himself is no where to be found during our victories, last time he had a great impact was back in Game 8 against the Spurs. Since then his performance has been mediocre and could have easily been filled by having Dekker/Ariza at that spot and then playing KJ at Dekker's backup mins at the SF slot. Whenever we've won since then it was always some other dude apart from Anderson stepping up, but I guess Anderson is like the heart and soul of this Rockets team for you because every time anybody does well it's all thanks to Anderson and the spacing he provides. I even read one poster here saying Anderson is the reason Harden is the MVP because he gives Harden 2 automatic assists every game, so I guess even Harden should be thanking Anderson now and make him the franchise player of this team. Ryan Anderson is fool's gold, maybe you're happy with our 20M investment but if I were Morey and it wouldn't destroy the team chemistry Anderson is the first guy I would be looking to ship out because we will be going nowhere as long as we have him at the PF slot and we go up against premier teams who have ridiculous front courts. If he was playing like he was during the preseason I wouldn't have an issue with him, but the problem is he's not doing that and it becomes glaringly obvious every time we match up against a competent frontcourt Capela and Nene need help inside, it's always 1 against 2 for them and since Anderson shoots so little his shooting ability doesn't make up for his deficiencies on that aspect.
Jazz have a good defensive front court, we can't depend on Capela going 1 for 2 every night. When other teams have a stretch 4 that guy is a volume scorer, check out guys like Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Paul Millsap etc. they take a lot of shots because they have to justify the time they're out there on the court. Anderson is open almost every time but refuses to let the ball fly, he's like Mr. Invisible out there and that really hurts us when the opponent has two good bigs or Capela/Nene are having an off night because we don't get a good trade off for having a stretch 4.
no it's more of he's your scapegoat for the season and he's far from it. I couldn't take the rest of your post seriously after reading your first sentence because its painfully obvious with your inability to see impact that doesn't show up on basketball-reference.com. Posting when Rockets lose to the jazz when they just defeated them last saturday. I guess GS needs to check themselves because they got destroyed by the Lakers a few weeks ago
LOL. It seems Ryan Anderson will be the blame for everything this season. A night where the Jazz go off on 3 pointers.... must be Anderson's fault he didn't guard the wing and guards.....
Yup, first it was his % was too low, but he shot the ball extremely well yesterday, and now he has moved onto the Jazz loss being Anderson's fault somehow. I have liked Roslolians posts in the past, but I am not dealing with a year of this agenda garbage. Thank god for the new and improved ignore feature.
I do not know whose fault the Jazz loss was, nor am I assigning blame for a singular loss. I do feel Morey made a GIANT mistake trading Beasley for Ennis (who we are going to let walk I assume) [once again ignoring any behind the scenes drama that could have occured that lead to the trade]. He is only making 2 threes a game for us and that is the extent of his use on the court. Might as well trade him and see if Trez anger can elevate his game to the next level.
I don't get it. We got killed by the Jazz because their wings made every three pointer and because Rudy Gobert totally shut down all of our drives into the paint. What does any of this have to do with Ryan Anderson? Replace Anderson with Paul Milsap and it doesn't stop Rodney Hood from going nuts for the first half and Gordon Heyward from lighting it up with daggers in the 4th. Replacing Ryan Anderson doesn't change the fact that the Jazz defenders shut down the 3 point line for the majority of the game and that Gobert didn't allow anything at the rim. In fact, the only guy who seemed to make his shots last night WAS Ryan Anderson.
Spot on. Jazzers were just hot from 3 last night, they wont shoot like this perhaps until the next season.
That's true, but it's also true that our defense overall was really bad, and that Ryan's man always got an easy basketball or a free pass to the paint ****ing up our already poor rotations because he was able to switch (i remember one play when the Jazz played a pick&roll involving Ryan an Harden, James actually tried to switch but Ryan didn't even look for that and Hood was left wide open in the corner)...i guess there's a reason why he played only 20 minutes and was basically benched for all the second half, and it's not the first time this happens. I'm not a fan of this signing and i will never be, i can agree with what hp was saying a couple of days ago though, which was basically "I prefer to sign, than not to sign. This is making the game a lot easier for Harden and Capela.", that's why you won't see me complain about Ryan, but let's not act like he isn't a huge tax a lot of times. Speaking about Millsap, well, Millsap would never get benched because he's not able to contribute in a single way during a game, maybe he can't stop Hood or Hayward to score a contested three, but he can easily guard Lyles, he can easily switch without losing his man 90% of the times, he can easily play the 5 in a situation like yesterday when you may need to take Gobert out of the paint without being left with literally zero defense in the paint and zero energy/rebounding so yeah, i think Millsap would've make some difference, same with Horford which was our real target in free agency for a reason btw.
I'm not trying to defend Ryan Anderson here, but nothing changed without him on the floor except we had one less person making shots. The defense was getting torched. We had a couple of minutes in the second half where we cut it down only to watch guys light up the players on the floor. There may have been a play where Anderson got abused on a PnR, but there are plenty more where Nene is a turnstile in the paint watching a cutter get a layup, or Bev gets dribble drive blown by. People are coming in with a per-conceived notion about Ryan Anderson, but I think the stats are showing he is NOT our worst defender right now. Not to say he's good, and I agree that when he isn't scoring he's a negative, but I don't see how last night's game in which he was hitting his shots but the entire team got lit up on the perimeter is being used to attack him.
Yeah, that's fair enough, i was also quoting your post since it gave some good points to discuss. It's just that like in the D.Mo's thread/s, i always see that there're a lot of exaggerated posts on both ways, too negative or too positive, and i don't get why, there's no need to attack/defend something which is clearly (imo at least) halfway.
Until we get the paint protected and get better on-the-point defense, Anderson's defense or lack thereof really doesn't matter much.
Ryan Anderson is a good player for our team. At 18 million, that's about what you will get on a new contract these days, not a superstar. He needs more shots in our system, and MDA has to figure out how to make that happen. His rebounding is just fine for a stretch 4, you won't find a stretch four that isn't a superstar that can hit 40% plus 3 pointers and grab you 6 or 7 rebounds a game when given 30 plus minutes. The only upgrade you can expect from Ryno would be a superstar. Don't expect Morey to trade him for some marginal upgrade because you don't like his salary, and therefore can appreciate what he brings to this team as a whole for Harden and Capela. The problem in last night's game was Bev, Harden and MDA. Bev's is not his fault, he shouldn't be starting because he doesn't have the skillset needed. Harden because he should have taken a lot more shots in the paint without going all the way to the basket against Gobert and their help defense. He could simply beat his man, threaten the lob to Capela to pull Gobert off of him, and pull up for a shot 8 foot jumper in the paint all night...no one would be able to stop that but him missing Going all the way to the rim was asking for destruction against Gobert and their defense, but he just kept doing it. If teams force you into a mini mid range game, you have to take what the defence is giving you, especially when our superstar is taking those shots. MDA went away from what we do for whatever reason by not playing Anderson his normal minutes, but like other's have already posted, Anderson wasn't our problem on defense. Sure he missed an assignment or two, but every Rocket player did. Hood and Gordon and their other guards and wings were our problem. Anderson should have played 30 plus minutes because he was shooting well, and he spaces the floor better for Harden to go to work. MDA also didn't play Capela enough last night. Gobert was on the floor way too many minutes without Capela on the court to try to balance out the impact. Even if Gobert was getting the best of the match up, he didn't last time; so you just don't go away from Capela and to Nene or Harrell to go against that kind of length. You trust that Capela will still make plays and make it at least harder for Gobert than Nene or Harrell will. That was a fail by MDA in game planning and in game strategy. Anderson was not the problem with only 21 minutes of play last night.
