Not sure why you're arguing. Yeah, it hurts some people's feelings, but it's protected. Saying this country should be for white people hurts people's feelings. Saying Mexico is not sending their best hurts people's feelings. Saying people who voted for Trump are all morons hurts people's feelings. But, it's all protected. So what's the point of pointing it out? It's counterproductive; sure, maybe. Saying BLM are just a bunch of criminals is counterproductive. Saying Phil Jackson is racist for saying "posse" is counterproductive. Lots of things are counterproductive, and I've been in counterproductive arguments on this bbs about these counterproductive rhetorical tactics. People are still going to employ them, and it's on them to make choices about being productive or counterproductive. Because it's protected. They can do it if they want. Protesters should think hard about how their message will be received when they choose to burn a flag. Trump should have thought hard how it would be received when he said flag burners should have their citizenship revoked (he probably did, and it will probably work better for him than I could even imagine). Americans are free to be dumb. So what are we arguing about? Trump used his free speech rights to say something dumb about other people who use their free speech rights to say something dumb? And you've used your free speech rights to express your selective disdain? And I've used mine to whine about it?
http://emblem.legion.org/flag_education/dispose.asp You do understand the difference between burning a flag in protest and disposing of a worn out flag right? Wait.....maybe you don't.
Hail Hydra!!!! It's possible to fold it up an put it in a recycle bin. They have machines that can undo the fibers/stitching and remove the dye to make other stuff. These guys burned the flag because it now represents multi-multiculturalism....
Flag retirement ceremony involves burning flag. All Boy Scouts do this. And veterans. Maybe not best example to use.
Should not have anyone on ignore. I respect your opinion- just see things through different set of binoculars. Anyone with name that reference Shakespeare- OK in my book!! (TY- Bill!) Also, how can anyone on ClutchFans ignore me w/ my sig??? SRSLY??
I wouldn't let my kid ever participate in a no reason but retiring flag burning. It's still politically scary and disturbing. That material can still be recycled..
The only relevant thing about this new idiotic tweet is the LEVEL of punishment. If he wanted to fine people or something, well, that's one conversation. But to say a single act of free speech, however obnoxious, that does no direct or indirect bodily or material harm to another American, can be punished by jail time and/or revoking the person's status as an American citizen? Can't we all agree that is crazy time and about as un-American a suggestion as you can get? Let me lay it out, folks, because this is serious. A. He is doing this, as others have suggested, to keep his most rabid supporters riled up. Gee, why would he do that? How does that unite all Americans to their new president, by suggesting ways to void citizenship? What is planning for his riled up base after inauguration? or B. He would actually like to implement a law like this. Imagine, if you will: 1. Flag burning is punishable by jail time and losing citizenship. 2. Burning your president in effigy is punishable by jail time and losing citizenship. 3. Oh, I don't know... insulting your president is punishable by jail time and losing citizenship. Anyone who thinks Trump wouldn't love law B3, while he's president, hasn't been paying very close attention to his incredibly thin skin. He's really a nightmare. If he could just stick to nutty rightwing policies, including retrograde social policy and tax cuts that won't work, etc, we would still be within the norms of political swings back and forth. But why suggest degrading our country's basic constitution and fiber? He had no fear of suggestion such anti-constitutional bullcrap, and he should be called on it by people all over the spectrum.
Burning the flag is a protected free speech right that the courts have ruled on at least twice. Trump, as the president of the USA doesn't know this very basic things. This demonstrate again that he is either ignorant of the laws or don't care about laws.
Trump is welcome to his opinions. As long as he is not trying to act upon them, he is free to express them, just as Obama expressed Travon Martin could be his son. Presidents say things they really shouldn't. The hypocrisy is liberals fall rank and order behind their candidate, regardless of their position. Hillary trying to pass legislation on this topic and not a single word from the left. Now that Trump speaks out against it, he is a dictator trying to suppress freedom of speech. On this subject, I disagree with Trump on practically and legislation (ie: its freedom of speech) and I agree with him in principle. The right have spoken out and/or disagreed with Trump than the left has ever disagreed with Hillary.
That is how it's done. Official rules. If your son in Boy Scouts, that's how they do it. Boy in neighborhood- Eagle Scout project - had to organize / run a Flag Retirement Ceremony. Flags were first cut up, then burned. Not politically scary at all. Protocol. Tradition. But, your opinion OK, too. Everybody's opinion OK!!! No block anyone!!!
You make it sound like tRUMP= Clinton. No, no, no Obama & Romney- OK, similar. Obama & McCain- OK, similar. Rubio & Clinton- OK, similar. tRUMP different. Can't make him seem like he's equal to the rest. Much worse. There's a reason the Right disagree with tRUMP. B/C he's wrong so much of the time.
Coincidentally or not, the American flag burning is like Jesus' gesture in my mind: Jesus takes his meaning from his death; his death is the proof of his truth. This is how I see the burning of the flag: it cannot be killed by burning it; in fact, its meaning is affirmed when you burn it. Only a mortal flag can be hurt by fire.
It sure is a good thing. But I wouldn't rule out that with the right circumstances, the unthinkable happen. And I don't recall a time when the circumstances is so align as it is now to have that possibility. Will be watching closely.
It also doesn't change the fact that you welched on a bet. You're suppose use my avatar for 6 months.
Oh trust me, I blame the Republican party for nominating Trump, but even after that happened, he wouldn't have been president if not for the Democrats nominating someone the public deems worse. Both parties went for embarrassing candidates. If Hillary had won, I'd blame Republicans for nominating their bottom of the barrel embarrassing candidate to help make that happen too. When it comes to policy, I'll blame the GOP congress, they are the adults here. I'd blame them for putting bad legislation on Trump's desk to sign.
Not exactly. Bernie clearly won where Hilary could not. Bernie would take and adsorb many Trump supporters as well. He is true change without the gimmicks. People that sat at home would have went to vote for Bernie who in reality is an Independent.
