Despite the lofty expectations, 2016 is still a "good year" for UH.

Anyway, dusting off the ol t-shirt after this and the #cab deplorables in Waco.

    From Horns 247:

The Horn Radio in Austin says there are rumors that UH will not retain DC Todd Orlando after the bowl and he would come to Austin. I'm not sure how connected that is to UH. I don't know how I feel about that. It would be more exciting if he could go get a coordinator from a team that plays better teams. I will say that the UH defense always looked pretty rabid. I'm just not crazy about whole coaching staffs moving over after Strong and the Louisville staff debacle. That being said, Strong had good defenses at Florida but didn't know how to defend the spread. LSU's DC was a rumor that the Horn was throwing around this morning but ESPN is reporting that he has resigned with LSU but there is no official word from LSU.

It's probably not as scary since none of the UH coaches are Herman's buddies like some of Charlie's coaches were. They also aren't reject big 12 coaches like Nebraska's Shawn Watson and Oklohoma's Jay Norvell. I'll never get over Charlie choosing not to retain Duane Akina for defensive backs and replacing him with Chris Vaughn who spent two seasons at Memphis as cornerbacks coach, preceded by a Ole Miss stint from 2008 to 2011 as safeties coach and seven years at Arkansas under Nutt. Strong also had him coach special teams in addition to DBs. Akina was DB-U and has done a good job at Stanford ever since.

I dunno, Orlando's defense looked pretty salty against Florida State, OU, and Louisville but of course you had the hiccups against Tulsa and SMU. Navy is a good team and the option is tough to defend.I am a little weary of Herman's staff and the lack of big school experience but gonna trust that he knows his folks. One thing that stood out in Herman's press conference was him quoting Woody Hays' "You win with people." Strong made mistake after mistake in hiring his folks and deciding when it was time to move on.

Interesting enough. Still hearing that Aranda hasn't signed his extension yet. Heard it's in the $1.2M range with AHC title. Could be out recruiting and just waiting to get back to BR to sign but guess there is still a window?

    Not much of an "interview"

I think Tom's experience at Ohio St will help all the coaches. You're right about the Orlando news NOT being official. Apparently the news is from a ESPN "source" so who knows.

    http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...ers-re-sign-defensive-coordinator-dave-aranda

It's worth noting that Herman had a record of 38-3 as the Ohio St coordinator with an undefeated season and a national championship. Ohio St was not eligible for a post season bowl the year they went undefeated. The guy's record as a coach in the last 5 years is 60-7 in the last 5 years.

Good for him. He'll be the 1st RB taken in the draft. He could be a good NFL back but he needs to lose a little weight unless he wants to be a goal line RB. Porter and Warren could work really well together next year. I just wish we would have run Porter more this year.

I wonder how many Texas players will transfer out of Austin !!! Majority of the players don't want to get kissed by Herman. Sloppy seconds.

I'm sure there will be a few. What do you mean they don't want to get kissed by Herman?

Foreman will be lucky to be the 4th or 5th RB taken. Fournette, Cook, and McCaffrey will all be taken before and maybe Perrine and another back as well. Shame because I think Foreman will be a good NFL back but don't think he'll be that highly ranked.

Yeah, he would have been insane to stay another year. His stock couldn't get any higher. Good luck to the horse. Big fan.

Texans could use Foreman. But I also like Connor.

Go get paid, D'Onta. I'll never begrudge a young man taking the opportunity to get paid for what he's good at.

Good for D'Onta. He was awesome this season, and I think he'll be a really productive NFL back. His vision makes me think he could get faster, lose a little size, and still be good between the tackles.

That's the general consensus. Right now he's behind a few guys and is looking at the 3rd round. If he busts his ass working out and just kills it at the combine he could conceivably jump into the early 2nd or better.

We'll see. He hasn't really been evaluated by draft scouts and it's super super early to project anything. He won't have to worry about a bowl so he'll have months to get in the best shape possible and get his 40 down. His yards per carry are up there with the best of them and he was also run to death this year with only a precautionary missed game because we were facing UTEP. Dude seems like he can handle the demand of a NFL back. He's also bigger than all of the guys you mentioned and will appeal to teams looking for a short yardage guy to complement their starting RB. He hasn't allowed a sack in 160 pass-blocking snaps this year, good for the best pass-blocking efficiency in CFB. The big knock that you'll hear over and over is his turnovers.

A 4th or 5th ranking will put him in the 4th-5th round and I think it's highly unlikely he would be coming out early if he wasn't presented with a lot of reasons while he'll be higher.

    Not a huge update:
    Rumors per 247

-The Longhorns put an offer on the table for three-star Denton offensive lineman Grant Polley on Tuesday.
-Major Applewhite would be welcomed back at the University.
-Houston safeties coach Craig Naivar is expected to join the Longhorn staff at some point.
-Tom Herman made contact with quarterback transfer candidate Jarrett Stidham yesterday. Texas also reached to all commitments as well.
-A source within the Houston program who spoke to Cougars quarterback Kyle Allen on Friday tells Horns247 that Allen’s preference at that time was to stay at Houston regardless of whether or not Tom Herman left for another job.

Not necessarily. Outside of last draft, you usually see 7-8 RBs taken in the first 3 rounds. Read that he been getting mainly 2nd to 3rd round projections which is about as good as you can get if you're not a superstar RB. I don't know how good his 40 time will be but ya he'll have some time to work on it. His fumbles are a concern and a valid one at that IMO.
