Center of Maze: Probably not death like I thought, probably suffering. And that makes sense to me. As the MIB seems to be trying to cause suffering for all of the hosts as he searches for the maze. For Maeve that was her child dying. For Teddy that is dying over and over again. For Delores, that was seeing all her friends die. When you see Maeve die, and you see her next with Bernardoldbot in the interview chamber, you see the maze on his digital screen and it says "heavy fragmentation error". Pain and Suffering lead to fragmentation, and that suffering may be one of the elements that leads to consciousness. And you can certainly download that pain and suffering as backstory, reveries, or experience it.
This is an interesting video comparing the maze to the human brain cross section. There's enough similarity there I can buy it. And it's not without precedent as a parallel to Michelangelo's Sistine chapel painting that mimics the brain to, and was a symbol of the rebellion against religion ( Something Ford is likely trying to implement as a patch for all the chaos ).
Also seems a lot of hosts are pointing guns at their own heads lately, or bashing their own brains in.
So, ultimately, what's the significance of Bernard shooting himself in the head? Is he no longer going to be a character on the show going forward? Or, does he just get fixed and put right back into action with his memory reset?
if you were confused by anything (as I was) that happened, this EW recap is good http://www.ew.com/recap/westworld-season-1-episode-9
It seems like when they point guns at their head they are suffering so profoundly they are willing to die. It's not clear to me what that means yet. Other than they are not yet ready to kill someone else for all that suffering, so they take their own life. Significant, but not as significant as taking someone else's life. It might signify the first step toward Bernard achieving his own consciousness and identity. And that means he's going to help Maeve for sure, and a powerful ally at that. Once they take someone's life they likely advance in their attainment of consciousness.
He shot himself in the head because Ford forced him to. He asked Ford not to make him do it. Ford used the "backdoor" to take control of Bernard and make him shoot himself in the head.
Doubt that Maeve is doing anything now that Ford doesn't already know about. Wouldn't be surprised if Felix was a host as well
Ah. Good catch. Ford made him do it! That b*stard. He's offing everyone. So maybe Ford is getting all the hosts to commit suicide that are off tilt due to the MIB. As a sort of way to take care of the problems that are leaking out like they did once before.
Well, define timelines. We saw two "main" timelines: MIB timeline="present." This is the timeline with Ford dealing with Bernard, Dolores arrives at the church in her pants and shirt with no wound, MIB arrives at the end. Maeve situation is unfolding. William timeline=35 years in the past. William and Logan, Dolores gets cut open and runs the 3rd timeline is really just "present" Delores flashing back to cut scenes of a time BEFORE "William Timeline" as she relives her arrival at consciousness. I don't like calling that a timeline really because we only see it quick cut scenes (she arrives to the church in the blue dress, her conversation with Arnold while in Blue Dress, watching the old robots break, etc.)
So what is Jesse's story going to end up being? He has a backstory now and is linked to Dolores obviously. I'm thinking Ford's new narrative for Jesse is actually MIB's history in the park. Also, did anyone else catch that the female host is "aware" that the hosts die and come back to life? Are they on script or off script? And what's the deal with Elsie? It seemed like she was killed by Bernard, but the way they show it without confirming death makes it seem like maybe she's still alive. What is the connection with the Ghost Nation Indians that don't obey voice commands? Was the guard lured their with a fake signal from Elsie? For what purpose? Jesse and Elsie stories seem like they are going to end up being important. Jesse is a relatively big name actor for an HBO show so can't just be a reoccurring death part and the Elsie story line with the guard has gotten a lot of screen time for it to not matter.
timelines: nude Dolores interrogations which we thought were with Bernard were actually with Arnold (earliest timeline) Dolores kills Arnold, Ford creates Bernard (a host who looks identical to Arnold) pants wearing Dolores, story with William (middle timeline) blue dress Dolores, Ed Harris timeline (present day, last seen when she shot the guy in the barn?)
dang...i guess i got "lost" on the timelines in the last one. what happened to william and logan not being in the present timeline? now, there's a new present and william and logan are 35 years ago? not sure how i missed that. is there even a real present timeline? what year is it? fyi: i just said updated this on 11/28/16 @ 3:03 central time...if that is our current present timeline. lol
Quick query: Why was Maeve never taken offline like she was supposed to be? I guess there are no checks and just a single system that deals with host status? There was no given explanation why Maeve now has voice control ability outside she is now super smart and aware? I like how all of the spoiler tag talk earlier in the thread is now completely pointless. It follows the advice, if you have not watched, don't enter the thread.
I think most of the action is happening on 2 main lines. Present day (MIB, Ford narrative, Maeve ) and 30 years ago (William, Logan, Delores). We are seeing other snippets from other lines. Namely 35 years ago (Arnold interviewing Delores) and several other indiscriminate times where Delores, Teddy and Maeve are flashing back to things. My crazy theory of the week is that I think Delores may be Wyatt. Well at least in a sense that the flashbacks Teddy is seeing where the town gets shot up, I think it will turn out to be Delores shooting up the town. His memory already changed once from soldiers to townspeople and I think the Wyatt character he keeps seeing will change to Delores in the FInale.
Is that mainly based on her killing Arnold or just some gut feeling on the fact that they need to tie the characters together in a meaningful way?
