In response to this: I guess chalk it up to the frustration that the progressive movement just had its ass handed to it by the "Dey tuk er jerbs!!" crowd, and yet we're still here arguing about context. Japan was seen as a threat. Dey tuk er jerbs crowd saw it as a threat to American jobs. Vincent Chin happened. But at the end of the day, the threat turned out to be overblown. We're now doing the same with China. Vincent Chin is an unfortunate shorthand. Sweet Lou 4 2 should go to his Wikipedia entry to see that jobs being moved to Japan (real or perceived) was EXACTLY the reason the incident occurred. We don't need more of that to stir up hostility towards Asians when China is on its last legs. Who has any interest in talking down China's economy? Not China itself, because it's all about the face. Not the China gurus (witness the idiots at GS constantly revising their RMB outlook -- it's now just comical). Not its neighbors (except for maybe Taiwan, maybe). Not our own military-industrial complex. So where would these "talking points" of China coming up against a wall at light speed be coming from? I'm a China guru in certain facets of its economy. Everything else stems from intense interest in personal well-being. And things are no longer celestial, tectonic or even glacial. It's just that nobody is paying attention unless your livelihood depends on it.
Vincent Chin and his family never got justice and this happened in 1982. The man that committed this murder is still alive and laughing and joking about what he did.
But they are though. To robots. But those will be our robots goddamnit! Not some cheap labor Chinese robots or illegal immigrant robots. It's like the fool store clerks who cheered minimum wage being raised, only to find out they're getting replaced by automated kiosks. The Matrix (or rather, Animatrix) on how and why AI turned on humanity just might turn out to be incredibly prescient. Capital will always find a way to maximize and externalize. And it's our government's job to check that (e.g. EPA, the Sherman Act, FDA, SEC, etc.) And Democrats somehow lost sight of that or failed communicate that. But I digress.
It's already moving to other places. Check your household goods. China is FUBAR. No need to argue here. Time will tell.
