What on Earth makes you think that a MDA team was looking for a slow, plodding back up center? This isn't a JVG team we are fielding here.

Shooting ~40% 3pt career is what causes defenses to glue a man to Anderson. Do you even watch how the defenses react to how Harden and Anderson interact?

Dekker hasn't proven that he's merely a streaky shooter or a legit 3 pt specialist in his 16 games in essentially his rookie season....

Anderson in his 9th season... Dekker his 2nd after a year missed with injury... Big difference to defenses.

A back up center who can't shoot or isn't an explosive athlete doesn't fit with what we are doing.

I guess this is just going to be Roslolian's "cause" this year.

Every year we have to deal with someone spamming the board with the same stuff over and over again.

imo, the only way this can be described as a bad signing is if it causes us to lose out on another free agent this summer. We tried to get Horford and Bazemore and failed. So we signed Anderson. I didn't see much better out there still available who would have come to the Rockets.

So, the $ argument is just people worried it will cause us to lose out on someone next year. That may never happen, too. Unless and until that happens, I find it more fun to talk basketball ... and Ryno is most definitely helping us.

We even have what seems like a Fantasy BBall argument. I find it boring to say, "Look what this offense is doing" and the response "Well, I expect more for $20m/yr" That per $ argument is what LOFs fans used last year....boring and not really basketball. That is a fantasy basketball argument.

bottomline: I prefer to sign, than not to sign. This is making the game a lot easier for Harden and Capela.

    I think Anderson is overpaid.

But that doesn't mean I think he sucks and doesn't help the team.

I'm just not sure that Wiltjer couldn't be that same type of player for much less.

This is what I'm expecting as well.
There's always someone glued to him.
He's doing a lot. Just not shooting well.

This is a really good point. I'm not saying he's not valuable. A floor spacing four certainly has value in today's NBA; though the lack of consistency is a concern.

But I think investments and player personnel decisions come at the expense of something else. Spending $20 mil a year on Anderson, that decision will come at the expense of an alternative free agent signing. And there will likely be better players available for that kind of money this offseason.

We'll see, but he's certainly not worth that money. If it prevents us from scoring a better player this offseason (and I believe it will), it's another example of short-sightedness at the expense of a more prosperous future.

Betting on younger guys with big upside is a better way to build a winner. Look at GS; they drafted all of their core players. We need to focus more on young FA's with upside and the draft. Just look at what Capela is doing.

You draft a Ryan Anderson; you don't pay him $20 mil

I agree we should focus on young guys, but there is basically no chance we can't create $20m this summer. We're on track to have $10m already, it won't be difficult at all to dump McDaniels and the player at the position we are replacing. Ariza, Bev and Brewer will be on expiring contracts. Anderson + our pick is tradeable too imo.

If someone agrees to come, Morey is ready to make it happen, that's always been the case. What I'm thinking is if it just happens that we can get TWO big additions, is it easier to trade Anderson mid season or in the summer? Frankly, Harden and MDA are making him look great so at the moment I'm patient about it. However, I would dump him for Gay just because it's a super safe way of disposing the contract and I don't think there would be a big overall difference having Gay at the 4 this season.

His salary this year ain't no thing. But his $20.4 and $21.2 salary when he's 31 and 32 are concerning, considering he already has the athleticism of a 38 year old at 28.

Anderson is going to take time to adjust much like Kevin Love has taken to gel with Cleveland.

    Give him some time.

    He's a great asset.

I see Dekker getting more of Anderson's minutes. I give Anderson credit for hitting the boards on occasion, however, his defense on the perimeter is lacking and if his shot is off, we know he's going to drive and spin with no idea of where is at on the floor.

You ride him if he's scoring early, if not go with Dekker...

His game should age really well if he can stay healthy.

His offense shouldn't see much of a dropoff. His defense will, although I suppose one could argue that his defense can't really get any worse.

This guy is big 6'10 and well over 250lbs from the eye test. He should be trying to tear down the rim once in awhile.

18 million? Seems like you'd say ouch.

He's shooting .404 from 3pt range. I know most of us heard him say he was going to be getting all these wide open looks, but he hasn't because he's hitting a lot higher than 40 percent of them. The fear he creates by forcing you to guard him creates 18 million dollars worth of space. We've won 11 of 17 and he's a big part of that. He's only scoring 12 points a game, I get the frustration, but do you understand what his spacing provides?

I like this player. I expect him to play even better. For all the bad reputation he has as a bad defender he doesn't look so bad on D to me. I would like for him to be more aggressive on offense like tonight, his midrange is money and even the spin move started working. And yes, Rhyno pls stay healthy.

p.s. that 'pump fake then jump into defender' move is the ugliest I have ever seen, yet refs go for it every single time he does it. Unbelievable, but I'll take it.

I don't get the notion that an un drafted rookie or even Dekker, who is essentially a rookie, can just replicate what 9 seasons of Anderson's experience brings.
