Sounds about right. I do remember when Tom Herman was the offensive coordinator at Rice in 2007-2008. He was truly outstanding. We gave him schit for listing on his profile that he was a member of Mensa. That became his nickname among the fanbase: Mensa
If I'm Strong I'm taking the year off so I can cash that 10.6 million dollar check. Work can wait until 2018.
Hell yeah! Seriously, buy some property, take the family on vacation. I don't feel too bad for the guy.
These are the names I have seen mentioned so far Mike Leach Dana Holgerson Lincoln Riley Dino Babers Dan Mullen Phillip Montgomery Todd Orlando Major Applewhite
Not sure I trust the Dana Holgerson leaks. Sounds like his agent just trying to leverage UH to get his client more dough. Herman gave us the blueprint to succeed here so we just need to get a coach that can follow through with that and we'll be good. Next season can't come soon enough. This one was so loaded with distractions it made the victories over OU and Louisville hard to enjoy.
Biggest hire in school history. If they have any hope of being considered in the next round of expansion they need to keep up momentum in terms of ratings and attendance. Cannot blow it and lose the momentum the program has or UH falls back to the pack with all of the other programs.
I totally agree that Charlie Strong should be strongly considered for the U OF H head coach. Chilling out and cashing the 10.7 Million check from UT would be temping but I think he has all the things UH needs at this stage in terms of relationships with the players and the character and discipline as well. He is one of the reasons Louisville even got in the ACC. Let's be honest UT never supported Charlie, he was setup to fail @ UT, but he got rewarded handsomely for it. I know he may be eager to get the stench of UT off of him and get back to football. Come on down to H-Town Charlie and continue the Takeover!!
I appreciate the last two years and it's been a fun ride with Ward, Allen, Wilson, Taylor and Bowser. I'm optimistic of next year with our players who WANT to be here. None of us should be surprised he left or how he left. He repeatedly failed to dismiss any in season rumor and allowed the media circus to hang over the program. He could never bring himself to say anything along the lines of this is where I want to be or I'm not interested in leaving UH. Many of you focused on what he said but it was more about what he wouldn't say. We could of been 11-1 this year but the rumors DID affect the team regardless of what he says or thinks. Until we get our P5 invite, our (successful) coaches aren't here to stay long even as TF was willing to open up the checkbook to keep him here. He showed us we can be successful here and gave us a blueprint on how to do it. He provided us a list of facility upgrades needed to better compete for recruits. We have to follow through with that list. It's up to us fans and alumni to keep supporting the program and our players now as I'm hopeful TF, President Khator, Hunter and the board will find us our next coach.
I'll put this here too. Zero ***** if I get ripped. I'm probably the only LonghornFan to actually say this, but I'm not as thrilled to have Herman as most are. I think he came out looking like an extreme douche the way he left. Yes the Texas brass should have given Charlie the boot last week, but they could **** up a wet dream. I'm hopeful, I'm praying they'll be relevant again soon, but imo the guy, his agents leaks about LSU, his interview before the Memphis game... Just strong vibes of total arrogance. It's what we're known for though so he's doing pretty good so far in the area.
Historically seems like we've been able to hold 3* recruits in the 70-75 range regardless of coach. Herman brought in more 75-85 for sure. This year may be difficult in that Orlando either has to establish credibility, or the new coach has to establish a system kids buy into, but overall if we can hold these kids we should still be solid and in the 9-10 win realm again which would keep the same kids coming in for years to come. King was an 84 for example, so if he's here then we good at the QB position for 4 years. If Allen sticks, he is like an 85. Either is fine with me. Ed Oliver has likely already established his NFL career, so he has nothing to lose by staying. He's visible and known now. I like our chances no matter who is coach to sustain long enough to regain some traction. We are probably the best team in the state next year.
Herman wasn't here long enough for me to root for. I'm rooting against his success as I almost feel like he rode the coattails of Greg Ward Jr and someone else's class. Would love to outrank them next year. I did like his energy and the halftime adjustments. Solid recruiting effort. I'm not scorned. Just would like to show that it was our players and not necessarily Herman that was getting it done and that HOUSTON is where it's at. Not Texas.
IMO his agent did what an agent is supposed to do - leverage. Once his agent had an offer from LSU, he let Texas know through the media. Remember everyone but Charlie Strong knew Strong was getting canned after the TCU game. It sounds like his agent pissed off LSU. Fortunately Texas bit and hired Herman.
There's apparently a huge contingent of former players-turned-boosters who are trying to get Briles an interview. Thank god Renu won't allow this nonsense.
There is NO way Briles will be coaching here ever again. After the **** he pulled (while UH was paying him and on his way out) for anyone to even consider this as an option they need to put the crack pipe down. He can definitely coach, but UH isn't going to sell it's soul like Baylor did.
