First, why is being one of the top 6 or 7 programs not good enough? Second, you're talking about 100 of history that is pretty much irrelevant to how good teams are today. "Need to do better" is true in that they suck right now. What they did in 1950, though, is irrelevant to that.
He may have never gotten there. Chip got there. Harbaugh might get there this year. Big 12 titles aren't an achievement for anyone. The goal is to win a national championship. It IS Texas. There is a level of expectation that is there that some of the other schools you mentioned also have. There definitely isn't, but you have to get there to prove that you're up there with the best of them. I'm not saying you have to necessarily win it to be great, but at least getting there shows you're capable. I don't put coaches in that great category until they've done at least that. That's just me though.
Because this is Texas. There aren't 5 states that are better. UT has the most money. One championship in 40 years is not good enough. You're making my argument. Someone else introduced 100-year numbers, not me. One championship in 40 years. The basketball team needs some Final Four runs and titles.
There were high expectations for Strong. He didn't live up to the winning part of those expectations so unfortunately he had to go. There will be even higher expectations for Herman. I believe he will need to come in and start winning immediately with the ground work that has been laid
Your full of garbage. Not that losses have anything to do with it but 40 of the top 50 schools in total wins have lost considerably more football games than Texas. If your not trying to dog Texas than stop trying to discredit there legacy amongst the elite programs of college football. They are the third winningiest program in college football. The end.
Because it's completely obvious you're annoyed about Herman leaving and reaching for straws to bash UT anyway you can. Accusing a program of not being one of the top 5 football programs in the history of college football is a weak example of thread trolling.
Yet you don't call-out ItsMyFault for saying UT isn't top 5. You're too emotional to have perspective.
Were there? He was going to keep his job with wins against a bad and average team to end the season. How many major programs would be ok with two 5 win seasons in a 3 year span with a mediocre year before them? That's what I don't understand out of this narrative. Other coaches have been fired with better records. Charlie got everything he asked for and got help from the university president when he couldn't get Sterling Gilbert out of Tulsa.
Who cares about money? How do you define states to be "better" and what does that have to do with winning football championships? They are not the 3rd winningest program in history. But regardless, who cares? Why does it even matter? Yale has more wins than Texas. What exactly does that mean? People are arguing over nonsense. Saying "the other guy started it" does not help your cause.
Rough ending to the Strong era...I had a ton of belief in him and his approach, but things just didn't bounce his way. He was dealt a shitty hand, but ultimately the best coaches (the ones who compete for and win NCs) can make something out of nothing, especially by year 3. I see Herman a lot like I saw Strong three years ago. The overall talent level of the team is better than Strong was left with, so I won't be surprised to see 9 wins next season even if coaching isn't remarkably better.
Yep. Herman is inheriting a stacked team of talented recruits that will be recently removed from growing pains. As an added benefit he carries the right pigmentation for guys like McCombs. Hard to screw this up.
Because I don't care about the argument to begin with. It has nothing tho do with the news of the day. You're either emotional about Herman going to UT or you're just classic troll. My "emotions" are rooting on how annoying you are being.
One championship in 40 means UT needs to do better. If you're wondering why winning matters, why are you on a sports website talking about sports?
I don't know why y'all some are saying UT is a top 5 program: http://www.cbssports.com/college-fo...s-top-100-college-football-teams-of-all-time/ http://www.cheatsheet.com/sports/greatest-college-football-programs.html/?a=viewall http://collegefootballnews.com/2016/ap-college-football-rankings-greatest-programs-of-all-time http://www.thetoptens.com/greatest-college-football-programs/ http://www.tiptop25.com/topcolleges_ap_poll_era.html None of them have UT in the top 5. I guess you can make an argument, but an easier one is to be out of the top 5. Labeling it doesn't matter however: if they ain't shooting themselves in the foot, they can recruit against anybody.
Jeez this thread has gone to crap. Really interested in seeing who Herman brings in. Aranda looks like he's staying at LSU and Orlando being named interim means he won't be available for a while, that's if he doesn't get the full gig. Not too worried about the OC but would like to keep Traylor on for recruiting purposes.
