I still would have like to have seen Herman or his agent categorically deny the LSU rumor (?) within 10 minutes of it crawling across screens, the Internet and Twitter. Come out and say it was a total lie and fabrication on the part of someone at LSU.
Spoiler: rant Tommy is an ******* & I hope he fails miserably. I hope he does worse than Charlie Strong. I wish him the absolute worst. There are no distractions! I nor my agent have talked to USC, SC, Texas or LSU! No distractions! There is nothing to handle! Reports are false? Absolutely! Nothing to see here! Move along folks! I'm not gonna talk about any other job! Don't believe anything you read or hear! There are no distractions! Try not to get in any fights with the Austin media or LHN. Good riddance. Take your b**** ass down the road. Houston will be fine & will get another solid coach in here. Just please not Major Applewhite. He can go with Tommy's b**** ass. Go Coogs.
He denied meeting with or talking with teams a couple of times. The hang up for him was that he couldn't say he wouldn't talk to schools after the season. Having said that, there is no way that anyone can claim it wasn't a distraction to the players and I agree with you Herman could have even just released a statement rather than getting angry at the media.
FootballScoop also reported that Herman called LSU at 5 am to them know he wanted to hear Texas out. LSU told him no and they're going with Coach O. Either way, sounds like Herman and LSU definitely talked prior to Memphis.
It never ceases to amaze me how bent out of shape people get that people's agents answer the freaking phone when people call about job openings. There is absolutely nothing Tom Herman can do to stop people from creating rumors and false reports about him and jobs. It is entirely plausible, if not likely, and in line with what Tom has said and done to date, that he has not had any personal contact with any program outside of UH until today. He's well within his rights to explore other offers now that the season is over. He's earned a raise. Time to go get it.
Yeah, Michelle's a fox. Thanks for all you did Tom. It was a wild 2 years. Question is now is it Orlando's job or do we go after Strong?
In a weird twist of fate way, doesn't this legitimize Houston as a football program that the big boys have to go to lil ol' UH to get coaches. Also, part of the buyout should say Houston and Texas should play each other, home and home series somewhere down the road.
Donny - Not saying Herman talked directly to anyone but do you really believe Armstrong wasn't talking with other schools before yesterday?
Of course he was. I said so in the post you just quoted. He's his AGENT. It's his job to do that. That isn't underhanded or different from any sports industry practice.
Unfortunately, this is the way it's going to be with University of Houston until we get an invitation to a P5 conference, if and when that day comes. It was either the UT and LSU hires fall through and he stays another season with the same debacle occurring all over again, or lose him to a P5 school. As great of a coach he is, it was getting super frustrating analyzing whether or not he was loyal to the school. I really think this regular season would have had a far different outcome if he was 100% committed and engaged the whole time (injuries and all). Thanks for the memories, Coach. Never thought I would be able to witness a UH NY6 Bowl win in person. Go and win a NC in Austin now. You have all the tools and personnel you need. (I bet we'd be seeing a much different outcome today had we been invited to the Big XII. That hurts.)
In a 10 year span we have lost 3 coaches to programs that have all repeatedly s*** on us as "not worthy" of their conference. It's hard not to just belly laugh at the idea UH shouldn't be a P5 program now.
Not "good enough" but our coaches are good enough for them to pry away from us. Makes complete sense.
