A loss is a loss but major props to Herman and Ward for going out with a bang. Amazing performance that couldn't make up for pathetic defense.

To put it all in perspective tho, think we just finished 6th in the American. OMG!

Assuming we will be part of the pool that the American tie ins can select from or be appointed to, I have to think we are most attractive team for any of the bowls or the conference, which think points to us being invited to the Birmingham Bowl vs. the SEC. Not even sure what is the top bowl and how the conference decides who will go where tho. Just glad where we finish in the standings seems to have no impact.

This loss really only affects our ranking going into next season, which sadly for G5 teams means WAY more than it does for anyone else.

If we get to play a decent opponent in the bowls I'll be happy.

One thing is certain, multiple sources said: Friday's 48-44 loss at Memphis was likely Herman's final game with the Cougars.

"I think he's definitely gone," a source close to Herman said. "To where? I don't know."

USA Today Sports reported that Herman met with LSU officials on Thursday afternoon.

A source told ESPN's Sam Khan Jr. that Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek met with Tom Herman's agent, Trace Armstrong, earlier this week and offered a contract extension that would include a seven-figure raise. Herman currently makes $2.8 million annually and is the highest-paid coach at a Group of 5 conference school.

It's been a great time these last two years with Ward. Although, the losses we suffered this year just happened to coincide with chatter about Herman and other openings for two out of the three.

He wants to get worked up about the media and false reporting but he could easily squash this by committing to stay or admitting to leave. The media wouldn't be a circus if he'd acknowledge his true intent. He was speaking to another school just last year and I believe that he's out this time.

Until we get our P5 invite, looks like this will be our normal unfortunately. Conferences keep UH out for its recruits and coaches. Smh Can't wait until we get our own Gary Patterson.

If this really IS the end of the Herman Era, it was a great ride. I mean we went 22 wins? and 4 losses in two seasons...that's something. It'll just be sad this thing is over before it could go any further..

Ward showed phenomenal growth, let's get 'em a bowl win to close it out.

Duarte tweeting that Herman is meeting with UT and LSU today.

I appreciate the fact he clearly waited until the regular season was over before exploring other opportunities.

Hopefully he decides to stay, but if he leaves I'll be very grateful for his time here.

Herman has always informed UH if he was interested in speaking to another school prior to doing so.

LSU is hiring their interim coach as their full time coach.

UT will be interesting. Geographically it is a great fit for UT and Herman. However there are issues that he has to weigh as well.

The ESPN report was entirely false.

Funny. FootballScoop says Herman believes LSU leaked it. Which is a lot more believable, since Herman has been uber pissed at anyone speculating on his job since he got here.

Chip Brown is also the John McClain of college football.

LOL. Sounds like Tom told them he had zero interest.

The hubris of these big programs is amazing. **** em.
