Well Happy f'in thanksgiving boyz. This SUCKS! But I cannot blame him in the sense that next year is unknown so go while the getting is good and before he has prove he can recruit and coach his own kids. But for this reason I hope we run the table and he misses out on a championship. Next year is out best shot. Seems like USA today and ESPN are credible enough to believe it. Our biggest challenge will be to recruit. Good system in place, but we need some 4* to compete once we get in there.
If I were going tp try and hide a meeting, on account that I might not leave, then Thanksgiving would be the day to do it whether that was just with my people or with me. That is shifty. Yet Smart. You might get away with it. So that opens up the option that he might stay. But then why even meet. You can do all of this on the phone if it's not serious. Meeting face to face on a holiday means serious business. If UH was giving enough money, and he was just feeling 'em out, there would be no reason to meet. A conference call would have been enough. He'll be forced to address it today. Think that's a wrap. On account of it effecting the team, who really cares, the stakes are low. Being ranked might help our chances at a title next year, but without Herman, running the table is a lot less likely. So I don't mind. The players that might not have come here will be a little rattled, but honestly, that's not a lot of players anyway.
Don't think they were trying to hide it really. Leaking the news about a meeting or coming close to a deal with LSU was not so much of a mistake but more of a message to UT and/or UH.
Not buying this line of thinking, not right before the last game of the season. Herman is obsessed with his W/L record. It makes zero sense for Herman to leak it right before the last game of the year. He could have leaked it right after the Memphis game and had the same event. I am guessing he either met with LSU and never wanted it to get out OR he never met with LSU and it is a false report. Like I said yesterday, before the reports this morning, if Herman met with LSU he didn't inform UH. Last year Herman informed UH he was talking to South Carolina and would speak to USC if they were interested. LSU makes some sense in that Herman believes the SEC is the best conference by far and will only grow in power. The whole thing is interesting. If Herman doesn't leave, UH and their fans need to be really appreciative. Tom Herman is going to be an elite coach for a long time and I can easily see him winning a national title or two before his career is over. He is extremely bright and a hard worker.
I wish Herman would stay and be the first in a long time to stay true to the things he says. Even before Herman arrived, I never liked how athletes had to sit out a year and coaches leave their 'kids' in limbo. The school acquiring the coach in this case, LSU or Texas, should be revoked 4 scholarships, and be made to make an 10 million donation to the other school's science or other department of choice just for doing business. If LSU or Texas are so great why not find their own Herman at some other school? They did in Mac Brown and they did him wrong. What were they before Mac? They hadn't won a national championship since the great Royal. That was 35 years of a wait and now they feel so entitled smh. Then again even coach taylor left Matt sarencen and smash williams to take another job.
http://www.chron.com/sports/cougars/article/UH-offers-Tom-Herman-big-raise-to-stay-with-10635138.php MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek presented football coach Tom Herman with a contract extension earlier this week that includes a "seven-figure increase" in total compensation, a source with knowledge of the situation said. Minimum would be $4M, one source said Houston would approach $5M threshold. Other names Duarte said he's heard if Herman leaves: Lincoln Riley, Dana Holgorsen, Phillip Montgomery, P.J. Fleck, Dino Babers, Major Applewhite, Todd Orlando
Not quite. Leaking this keeps you control of your own narrative. With LSU's route of A&M, all conversations would've been about Coach O right now. Instead, Hermans name has been the headline for 12+ hours now. I don't doubt for a second that Armstrong doesn't know what a rumor like this, whether true or not, does the UT BMDs. The Memphis game can only hurt Herman. Trying to get a deal done before or some type of commitment before it makes sense.
Herman has control of his narrative already by winning. If he wanted LSU to know of his interest, all it took was a phone call from his agent. The Memphis game has no baring on whether whether of not Tom Herman gets offers from UT, LSU or another tier 1 school. Further if the Memphis game IS so important, the last thing Herman wants is a day before the game it is leaked he is talking to LSU. Herman has been consistent about how he goes about things. Why would it change now? Herman gets zero benefit leaking the information on Thanksgiving Day.
He dislikes the media and he really dislikes discussions about his job security. He has a history of eventually getting fed up and lashing out. Herman is a very controlling person and that certainly includes the media. Look at his history dealing with Houston media members that don't portray his football team in a way he feels is beneficial. If you ever go to fundraiser events where Herman is at, he makes no qualms about his distaste for boosters, media or players not on the same page he is on.
If the reports that Texas BMDs were all but banging down Fenves door after the news came out is true, well then it worked out quite nicely. LSU gets zero benefit leaking this and UH seemingly had no idea they were even talking. So either it is completely false or it was leaked by his camp, maybe even without Hermans knowledge or consent.
Probably if you're all in. But if you have your doubts, the 3 losses to Navy, SMU, and Memphis is worrisome.
