Honestly though, getting butt hurt about losing an election and making a short sighted decision to secede is pretty much a classic Democratic party move.

The innovative backbone of this country would collapse without Cali...

That's bullshit and you know it. It has nothing to with Lincoln or the name republican, but everything to do with the people that supported Jim Crowe laws..and just magically became anti-slavery too LMAO

LOL no. If California were foolish enough to secede, those people would move elsewhere and that would be the new "innovative backbone" there's nothing at all special about California.....and those people REALLY wouldn't want to live there after they didn't have other states to help provide them with the energy, food, and water to keep their people from starving and dying of thirst. California only exists as it is today as part of the US. Again, there's nothing at all special about the state.

Again, they went from being the party that owned slaves, to the party that owned the votes of their descendants. Pretty ingenious really. Unfortunately for them they had too many runaways this election and now they want to secede.

It certainly looks like Bobby is going full stupid tonight. I kind of want to leave him be but then again it's quite amusing seeing how far he will go and how bad he's willing to look in order to defend his original, disingenuous statement.

I'm doing a project using some optimization techniques and i had to cite that for a proof to show why I can do another proof in order to use something. But I forgot what the formal name was.

Thanks to that pic I just remembered it's called cofactor expansion. Saved me 20 secs on google.

    Thanks :p

Just as big a pile of crap as when escapist conservatives and dumb local officials fantasize about Texas seceding over and over again. It would also eventually be just as detrimental to blacks, immigrants and women. This is assuming the four or five layers of heavily armed law enforcement don't arrest every collaborator and gun down every armed resistor in a matter of weeks.

A tiny number of Texas radicals talk about succession and the entire USA makes fun of Texas. A group of organized California citizens submitted a proposed ballot measure to the state attorney general's office that asks for a vote in 2018. Now everyone including major news orgs wants to seriously discuss it as a topic.

It wouldn't. Our retail sector might hurt because corporations wouldn't have any well-produced programs or music on which to buy advertising, but there are more than enough tech and science talent clusters between the Big 10, Ivy/NESCAC/Big East, Central Texas and NC/Research Triangle that not only would there be new tech competitors outside of California, but you'd probably end up attracting all the talented international and Californian students who wouldn't want to need two Visas to work in the Continental US.

The same way Texas would be more like Angola than Qatar or Kuwait if they seceded.

You have no idea what you're talking about, son. Here's a start: http://m.westernfarmpress.com/tree-nuts/what-happens-if-us-loses-california-food-production

    And that's just one example.

People are drawn to America because of California, not the other way around.

It's adorable that you have such a naive viewpoint. California doesn't have enough water to keep that up without help from other states....hell they can barely do it WITH help from other states. They simply don't survive without other states providing electricity and water. The northern part of the state would be in less trouble of course, but southern California would be screwed.

As painful as a Kiwi shortage would be, California would be in MUCH worse shape if they were on their own.

Coming into a thread and spit balling stupid BS against the wall is a classic Bobby move.

Except for great weather, better job opportunities for the creative class, better pay for those jobs, tuna fishing (a very important thing for me), great state and national parks offering some of the best nature in the country, great geographic diversity, and so on. It has its flaws, but I wouldn't have lived there a decade without a good reason. There's a reason it's the most populated state in the union.

Meh. It's just a billion times easier to get a ballot measure put together in Cali. Much to the state's detriment (or determinant, if you prefer). We had to wade through 500 pages of state and local BS this year to be informed voters, (or to even pretend to be informed voters). It's really awful.

The fact that it could come to a (meaningless) vote is why any news outlet is covering it. Also, I remember news outlets covering Texas secession talk.

The sheer amount of research needed just to be/feel informed was annoying, this year. I mean, really, 3 propositions about paper/plastic bags in grocery stores, with conflicting provisions!?

If I was Cali I would let the blue counties secede from the rest of Cali and let the rest of the state stay a part of the US... in fact I'm for the entire country doing that. Just think, those counties could go full Socialism and everyone would be happy... it would be like Woodstock, for about a week... and then the killing and dying would start. We would have to put up refugee camps and start giving them benefits.... never mind bad idea.

Perhaps you haven't noticed how corporate the Democratic party is? That corporatism is one of the factors popularly cited for why they lost this election. The days of socialism are gone. Social safety net, sure. But the party isn't betraying the 1% anytime soon (neither is the RNC).
