Ariza was never going to be a steady option at the 4. Ariza isnt Shawn Marion, he's strictly a 3/situational small ball 4. And Rockets figured D-Mo was gonna be in the PF mix now instead of chilling in Canada. And really need Ariza out on the wing to rotate D on guards and help D on bigs.
He will be one of the most overpaid players in the NBA; we're gonna regret that contract big-time. Just terrible.
Well, maybe Morey can foist him on his hometown Sacramento in some sort of trade, should it come to that. I'm not saying "pull the trigger, Daryl"; but when Anderson is on, he's deadly for us. When he's off, he's deadly to us. Maybe he can contribute in some small way here and there when his shot isn't falling and not give us too many WTF moments. Still, power forward has consistently been that one spot in the WC that eats our lunch. We do need an upgrade there. But if you're already paying a guy $20,000,000 per season to chuck-and-make or chuck-and-clank, it doesn't leave much money for the "better" guy. Whomever he may be.
Question....which Rocket had the highest plus/minus in the Detroit game? Answer: Ryan Anderson Some of you may remember the article "The Dwight Effect" that explored while Dwight was not the best rim protector in the league in terms of FG% at the rim, he still had a huge impact on the game by discouraging players from even coming into the paint. Well someone needs to write "The Ryan Anderson Effect"...i.e. while Ryan may not be hitting his shots at the highest clip, he still has an outsized effect on the game by opening up shots for others that never would have been there without him on the court.
As others have said, even when he's not scoring, the fact that he is a threat to score from a few steps beyond the 3-point line opens up the court for Harden and company. Not a bargain by any means with his contract, but definitely not a net negative.
I know this is old news but I came across about this website and I was shocked about the whole story. When I was at the Summer League this year I got the chance to talk to Joel Myers (Pelicans Commentator) and he told me that Ryan is in a better place now, at the moment I knew what he meant but the whole story just gave me the chills. Just putting life in a perspective http://www.eonline.com/news/451115/...g-boyfriend-had-said-i-don-t-love-you-anymore
The season has just started is it unrealistic to think his shooting will improve? On the other hand that spin move and midrange game seem to kinda have started working for him. God, can't wait for him to get hot for a couple of games, it will be a spectacle indeed!
Question, which played a bigger part in winning the game, Anderson or Capela? Question, if your answer is Capela why would you give credit to Anderson when he shot 0-3 for the game from 3 pts? I know he has an additional net positive effect because of his stretch, but you also need to remember he has negative intangibles due to being a bad defender, rebounder and unathletic person so combine that positive stretch with negative intangibles you get a wash. What someone needs to do is isolate the Anderson Effect, find out the Ariza/Dekker effect and then compare the two to see how big a difference the stretch is when it is Anderson vs other stretch PFs we are using. If they can prove that the Anderson effect is way more effective than the Ariza/Dekker effect then ok, Anderson is worth his salary. Plus/minus depends on a lot of factors, with Capela beasting tonight and with bench guy Gordon being off as well its possible the team outscored the opponent the most because that was the time his teammates got hot, and then when he sat Gordon was off so that impacted the +/-.
This trend hasn't just been over one game. Anderson has consistently been our second highest +/- contributor on the team, behind Harden. Ryan Anderson is the Steph Curry of power forwards. Steph does not hit the highest 3 point % in the league, but he puts so much pressure on you because of his volume, quick release and ability to hit from any angle. Anderson is much the same type of shooter....he pulls at the integrity of the defense. I go back to the 2nd San Antonio game, where Pop switched Kawhi onto Anderson. If anything shows how important they think Anderson is to our offense, that does.
So looks like no one (myself included) is willing to do much statistical analysis to gauge Anderson's actual impact (especially when he's not hitting shots). Fair enough, and I obviously have no room to complain, but I think the burden of proof lies with those who assert he has a positive impact - even when not shooting well.
Let's be honest. 12 and 6 on 38% shooting with very bad defense is a negative. There are obvious positives he brings that helps guys like Harden, sure, and I imagine his FG% will creep up as we go, but as it stands right now, he hasn't been overly promising individually. Hopefully he gets it going.
Les Alexander wanted the cap space spent and wanted Ryan Anderson added to the Rockets. There isn't really point dwelling on it. Ryan Anderson is a useful player and will start playing better, his warts are obvious to everyone but there isn't much that can be done. There is likely to be an amnesty in the new CBA anyway.
Good post fins. So if Anderson's presence does this.....what would Wiltjer's presence do? He's a better shooter than Anderson and has way more range. Wiltjer is more accurate from 30 feet than Anderson at 24 feet. IMO, it's a matter of time before Anderson is traded. It may not happen during this season. But it could. Anderson, Capela, another contract, and a couple picks would be a nice package for a primo player.
Everyone has said there won't be one. Even though most teams would love it after the last two offseasons.
Ryan Andersons contract may be bad , but if we can find the right role for him it may not be awful or franchise ruining lol . The cap going up is going to take some time to normalize what we think free agents should get paid . Anderson has good timing . His team defense actually hasn't been too bad though he is definitely limited individually . If in a year or two we have a better option for starting 4 and he comes off the bench that is a great role for him and he and Gordon are likely two of the better bench players in the league.
Not ready to make the same bold statement about Wiltjer, but I do like him. That shooting stroke is beautiful, but Anderson is the overall better player right now despite his limitations. I do think there's some potential for an Anderson deal down the road, but any trade ultimately has to be approved by Harden. I doubt Capela or Anderson are going anywhere this year, as they are the primary reasons why Harden is killing it. This is a Harden centric team now. Any player or star that comes in must fit seamlessly into Harden's game. That's why the news from cyberx regarding Heyward shouldn't be terribly surprising. If it's simply a matter of benching or trading Ariza in favor of Heyward, that doesn't materially change the overall structure of the team. Now if we trade/sign Boogie.....that is a material change. Not to say the Rockets would walk away from it if the opportunity was there, but there would need to be a lot of soul searching and analysis put into it. Heyward is very logical as Robin to Harden's Batman.
