Haha the clown show continues. What an embarrassment to the University. The players are free to leave with Strong if they want. The athletic department totally screwed up the easiest firing in the world.
Does this really matter? It's not like we were going to hire a coach this week, so is it really bad if they give him a chance to win his final game at Texas and leave on a positive note instead of letting some lame-duck assistant coach do it? If nothing else, it prevents the media spectacle of a bunch of players boycotting or whatnot.
Here are the 3 scenarios I can think of: 1. Strong has been told he is gone but was given an option on when/how and he elected Friday after TCU. This is also what Ketchum from OB is reporting so TIFWIW. 2. Fenves is taking a stand against the donors and saying I'm gonna do things on my timeline and is still contemplating what to do. 3. Fenves is waiting on Herman's answer (or another possible candidate) before making anything official. I have posted a few times that we'd need to have our next guy all but signed if we were going to move on from Strong, of course that was before losing to KU where I thought we should have announced it on Sunday or at today's presser. If it's this scenario, it'd be the first thing I'd applaud the administration for in a long time. In any one of these scenarios, the administration has zero control of the narrative which can spiral out of control immediately. A win over TCU muddles things that much more unless Strong agreed to resign after and is a man of his word. We shall see.
The concern is that a win against TCU will make it much harder to fire Strong, especially with administrators as weak and floppy as Perrin and Fenves.
Why do I get the feeling that after Saturday's game that we're going to end up with a Les Miles type of situation from last season? All the speculation and bs from the media had Miles fired, and then he ended up keeping his job. He was then fired midway though the following season.
Because it's Texas and nothing is off the table. If this happens, I hope the BMDs pull out until Fenves is gone.
I don't think there's any chance Strong stays at this point. Even with a win over a 5-5 TCU, he'd be 6-6 in his 3rd year and horribly disappointing all around. I think it's just pointless to fire him with a week to go.
LSU's a bit different in that Les Miles had phenomenal success there. That was more akin to the awkwardness and mixed feelings with firing Mack Brown. Charlie Strong just doesn't have the same basis of support.
They've never been floppy. They want to keep him and they might still keep him if he can beat TCU. He should have been let go on Sunday.
Was cheering hard for Strong, but he wasn't cutting it. Harbaugh and Meyer have beasted during the same, or less, time. side note - UT's logo/colors are too much like Tennessee's.
If there's a Harbaugh or Meyer on the market then sure, let Strong go. But there is no one like that now. Don't tell me it's Tom Herman, the guy that lost to SMU this season and won't even win the AAC. Herman could be better or worse than Strong, we don't really know.
Doubtful that they'll be on the market next year or the year after that, simply can't wait on that. There is always risk when hiring a HC, hell there was even some risk with Meyer and his health, Harbuagh and his personality, etc...Herman checks a lot of the boxes and while you don't really know if he'll be better, it's hard to be worse than Strong at this point.
This is technically true, but the evidence strongly leans one way. With far less talent, Herman has lost to better teams and beaten better teams than Strong. Kansas is worse than SMU. Meanwhile, Texas has many more losses and doesn't have wins over the likes of Oklahoma or Louisville this year. In 3 years, Strong has one truly good win (OU last year) along with a win over a highly ranked Baylor last year that was using its 4th (?) string QB. The goal is not to go hire Harbaugh or Meyer - that almost never happens in college football once those guys are at established top-tier places. It's to find the next Harbaugh or Meyer. If they don't think Charlie is it, then they should try again. If the next guy fails, do it again.
Why not go after Chip. He is probably going to get fired at some point and might have worn out his NFL welcome.
