Even in Mack's decline he was better than strong. The players can quit if they want. They aren't winning.
The only silver lining to come out of this is Fenves and Perrin can tell whatever candidate that they're men of their word. No idea what the value of that is but whatever.
Yeah and also that a losing record has no consequences. If by some miracle we crush TCU on Friday, it's going to be that much harder to fire Strong. When we do fire him, the players are going to revolt.
Texas has royally screwed this up. They should have forcefully come out and told Strong he's fired. Now you've put players in the awkward position of having to work with Strong for at least another week, and have even given the players time to express their opinions for him to stay and even discuss a boycott. Very, very dumb. They should have eliminated this risk. Just terrible management by Texas.
As if anything I say is going to influence anyone of any importance on any level whatsoever. Sooo apparently you completely agree with me.
Get the idealized version of Strong out of your head. He can't produce on the field, so his words mean nothing. He's not a teacher or a scoutmaster; he's a football coach. You can teach character and still win football games. Get him out of here.
1. Fenves and Perrin are either too cowardly or too stupid to fire Strong now or tell us what the actual plan is. 2. The players are threatening to boycott when I can think of 6 better days (how about game days?) where they could have made much of a difference. 3. Strong is pulling the "I'm making men" card after he just lost to Kansas. Any questions?
le sigh. Trying to reason with the UH homeys is never easy. I was reacting to your specific comment about whether other coaches would think it's worth it to go there.
Next season? How about come out and make an emphatic statement against TCU and then proceed to dominate whoever we play in the bowl game.
I'm not sure how you can think having terrible management will do anything but harm when trying to hire a new coach.
Well that's a given too, but on top of that, if you want to plead your case after all of that. The only way to go about it is to do something similar to that. What Tebow said that one year when they lost the first game of the season and then went on to win a NC was pretty incredible.
I'm all for integrity, that's why I've tried to be patient with Strong. But the on field product is showing no positive strides whatsoever, and the big 12 was extremely easy this year. I don't care if the players love him if that love never translates to the field. This isn't a pollyanna world where integrity is all you need. They should have fired him immediately after the Kansas game. Now this whole week is gonna be a joke, and he is gonna go off like a conquering hero if we beat a mediocre TCU team to clinch that awesome 6-6 record.
I think he's a great Head Coach and tons of programs are going to come after him. He's just not a fit at Texas. Or the Big 12.
