Amazing even when Anderson has an off night he still impacts the game stretch 4 style...if he was on tonight the Rox would've won by 20-30....JEEZ
People are comparing Houston Rockets 2015 Dwight Howard to Capela - since that is the version of Dwight Howard he was replacing. No one is ever disputing that prime time Howard is better than Capela right now.
You are right....i do see something different. I see a much improved player from the one that was drafted. I like how you made your point by name dropping all the people that agree with you. Im gonna name drop someone that agrees with me...Mike D'Antoni. If you cant see that Capela has grown by "leaps and bounds" since he first got to the league then i think you are best suited to continue name dropping since you obviously dont know what you are talking about.
One game fellas. Don't do Terrence all over again please. Nothing fundamentally has changed here. We need to trade him before he is further exposed. The center's primary job in today's game is to be the anchor and difference maker on the defensive end. Any big man with decent athleticism and hands is gonna kill it from time to time on the offensive end in this system. It's simply the product of where the defenders deploy their strategy and who they decide to leave with no help. Gobert was awful last night and Harden and Capela picked him clean. But Gobert and Capela are basically the same player. They're simply not good defensively when you go right into them. Calm down. Some of you guys on the Capela train will be pulling your hair out in a couple months when opponents are plowing him under. It's a long season. And it's the same long season every year.
Clint was a good FT shooter in his rookie year, then someone talked him into changing his a bit bizzare FT form (he was shooting a high rainbow arc). This is where real problems started. That shot was a thing of beauty.
They definitely look to establish him early because it opens up the floor. His impact isn't totally in scoring points although I think we are all expecting just a bit more. Honestly, he seems a little shy to me. Like, man....shoot the damn ball. This is the NBA, I'm glad you can hit 30 ft shots but you gotta make a couple with a hand in your face. Quicker trigger, greener light. Let it fly! Gordon has been the 2ndary playmaker this team has needed for years. Puts Ariza and bev back to their roles of 3/D. Dekker is a nice piece off the bench and I love the veteran leadership Nene brings. The pieces are really in place for this team to take off. I think we as fans owe them a bit of patience to gel. New players, new system and they're already this good and this fun to watch. It takes teams at least one year to gel.
I think it's time for you to reevaluate your original position. This is not TJones part 2. Capela is not lost on D. He is a legitimate rebounder, a developing weak side defender and he can switch onto smaller players. His post defense looks dramatically better this season. Of course the lobs won't be there in the playoffs, but that's why the signs of him developing his game around the rim and the 5 assists last night are encouraging. He has always shown good court vision.
Watching Dwight vs Hernangomez the Spanish NYK rookie. He's getting visibly frustrated, delivering cheap shots and jawing at the official. End result is ineffective defense and trash post-ups I don't miss him one bit
First off holic it hasn't been just one game. Over his last 8 he's been a 14/9/2.5 guy in under 30 min and the Rockets hare held there oppenents to 103 ppg in that stretch which is about 2 points better than theirs season avg. His rim protection has been much improved as well as his post defense. He's nothing like tjones, in the fact that Capela actually cares and works hard and wants to get better. That one trait right their goes a very long way.
You couldn't be more wrong. Thank god bad opinions like this are confined to the internet and no where near the Rockets board room.
And I'll be the first two admit i was very disappointed in Clint last season. thought he regressed a lot from his promise he showed in the playoffs. But he's been about as good if not better than I would have expected so far. I don't think ppl give him or nene for that matter enough credit for how good both of these guys hands are. These passes in the paint by harden look pretty but their extremely hard for big men especially centers to catch on the move. As much as harden is making them look good (and he is) they are making him look good also. Last year Dwight jones or any of our bigs would have fumbled away most of these bounces passes in the paint. It's hard to get that pass off cleanly let alone catch it and finish it. Much props and respect to our centers there doing a fabtataic job offensively for this team.
Explain how Rudy Gobert, who is universally considered one of the league's premiere defenders, is "simply not good defensively".
I'm just asking. What makes you disagree with something that basically 99% of NBA analysts/observers think? NBA GM's had him as the 2nd best interior defender in the league in the GM survey. Maybe they're all wrong, I don't know.
I don't know what 99% of NBA analysts think about Gobert. And I don't know anything about some poll allegedly taken of NBA GMs. Polls don't mean much though. Garbage in garbage out. I know what my eyes tell me. Capela and Gobert are good at help defense and they're decent when the opponent gives them the space to use their length. But when an opponent drives into their body, their length is negated. Then it's all strength, leverage, and instantaneous reactions. Or in their cases delayed reactions. Capela is worse than Gobert who isn't good himself in those cases. Quality opponents scout them out and attack them physically repeatedly. Watch the games. Nothing has changed from last season. See my previous posts. Capela is much better served by playing the defensive 4 alongside a defensive anchor 5. He's already been exposed this season. In between the occasional game like the Jazz game there will be long stretches of subpar play against better bigs.
