I'm saying the same things now that I was saying when I first heard he was running as a Republican. In a perfect world, the agenda pushed will be that of the GOP and Trump will adopt it as his own. Like I've always said, he's been on every side of every issue much like Hillary. Neither of them stand for anything. The party was always going to set the agenda.
I just can't comprehend the hypocrisy of some of the right wing when they b**** about "safe spaces etc.." They supported a guy that whined about how the media was unfair for over a year, while he continued to say stupid ****.
It seems that the Republicans learned that in order to beat whiny Democrats, they had to get one of their own.
Hahaha. You post well, I appreciate it. One can see a deep need in you to defend the conservative brand from the Trump, by deflecting him back into a democrat role. It's fine that you're embarrassed of him, that shows you have some sensibility and class. It's great that you very vocally opposed him from the beginning. That being said, your half-hearted attempt to somehow deflect his horrible character upon the democrats is weak. Donald Trump is President-Elect of the United States, winner of the Republican primary and winner of the Electoral College vote because of sixty million Republican voters (a great deal of whom just love his character and how he "tells it like it is.") Just own it, dude. I hear that conservatives are fans of responsibility and accountability; own it. President Trump is the conservative choice.
So, If Mr. Vice-President elect Michael Richard Pence (there, is that better ) is at a baseball game and the National Anthem singing guy or gal spots him, then they are entitled to offer their opinion on how he should do his job in front of the entire stadium? In addition, if I am an attendee at a non-political event, especially one I spent hundreds of dollars to attend, I don't want politics involved, regardless of whether or not I agree with the stance taken.
Pence attending a show on Broadway is like Obama standing in the middle of an NRA gathering. A huge percentage of the cast & crew will be gay or have worked with homosexuals their whole lives. Pence is one of the biggest anti-gay cavemen we have in politics. I'm biased, but I've got no problem with the cast making a direct political statement; theater is at it's best when it is current, relevant, and challenging cultural/political norms. There are those in the gay community who have attacked Hillary on her record on gay marriage; I don't mind that either, and wouldn't mind it if it was done in a theater. For those of you who find it so unprofessional, do you recall when President Obama was heckled by a Republican Congressman during the State of the Union? Were y'all up in arms about that as well?
Count me in with the camp that doesn't agree that's the time or place to voice your political opinions. If you reverse their politics, I think a conservative group would be blasted and fired for voicing their difference of opinion to a liberal (Vice)-President-(elect). But it's also America and it's their right to freedom of speech. Their stance has the public backing, so there wouldn't be repercussions either.
And, by the way, Trump should have ignored it. But, seeing as how he ran his campaign, he sees it as a way to further manipulate the media and narrative.
Tough conservatives are turning super wussy super fast. You don't think a public performance about Alexander Hamilton is the time or place to talk about politics. . . .
Conservative or liberal, it doesn't matter. I grew up learning that work isn't a place for politics or religion. This is a play, not a political rally. I get that having an audience with a high-ranking public official is a rare chance, but I would still hold my tongue. The double standard is what bothers me. See the Fox 26 reporter thread. She got fired for voicing her political opinion off work hours. It wasn't popular, so she got canned. I don't like rules that get arbitrarily enforced. Everyone should play by the same rules.
And that's exactly what the actors would have done if they had even an ounce of professional pride. Unfortunately that's in short supply these days.
OK, the actor could certainly be canned for that. I wouldn't dispute that. But I would not be at all surprised to hear political talk at a play about Alexander Hamilton, particularly if I were a government official. And actors do spend the whole performance talking. . . . It's not like a baseball game, as someone suggested. As I've said in this thread a couple times, being Vice-President-Elect is a 24-7 job: note the Secret Service surrounding Pence at the theater. On his job, the Vice-President-Elect does talk politics all the time. And he should hear Americans talking about politics when he is on the job too.
I think where we disagree is when is an appropriate time to voice your political opinions. If the actors privately came to Pence after the play, I wouldn't have a problem with that, similar to the lady who brought up women's health to Governor Rick Scott. She was a regular customer as was he, and I agree with you that public officials should take the time to listen to their constituents. But if it was Scott's barista, I'd tell that barista to just shutup and serve coffee.
He's not using it in the same context as university children. Of course leisure places like restaurants and theaters should be safe spaces. You go to these places to relax with your friends and family not to be harassed, especially by the people you're paying. That liberals don't know this, I'm not surprised but, as a society, this should not be tolerated. Pence was there was his daughter btw. I'm just hoping he takes this as inspiration to **** these guys over even harder.
The theatre should've made an announcement beforehand for the audience to respect Pence, but actions like the cast pleading to him has been done since the days of Shakespeare. I'd assume with full total control of the US Government that Conservatives would pass along the mantle of angriness to loser Liberals, but some things are just too hard to give up. It's like both sides are now angry, so then who the **** won?
The Vice President-elect was asked publicly to work on behalf of all Americans? IN FRONT OF HIS DAUGHTER??? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!! [lessons in etiquette brought to you by: supporters of Donald Trump.]
