It seems in the past, unintelligent people used to have some sort of shame about not knowing things.

Let me clue you in, have you looked at our failed educational system recently? From grade school to higher education there's a systemic failure across all levels. Mr Trump will fix that, it won't be easy to undo the damages that was done by you lefties but he's the right man for the job. I'll say this though. Fast and easy access to google and Wikipedia has made it worse. Now people like CML or this guy (actually we all are guilty of it to an extent) can just google nonsense and start parroting whatever they're reading.

Then afterwards, they act so adamantly sure about being correct without taking subtle nuances or contextual and application issues into consideration.

It creates a really weird situation where it's fairly obviously someone is clueless. But they say just enough buzzwords to convince other people who have no idea what they're talking about (yet hold similar views) that they're knowledgable. That creates this really lame dynamic in which their stupidity is almost congratulated which in turn causes it to be reinforced and reaffirmed.

I guess the difference would be that when people who aren't of the above mentality run to google to support their arguments, they realize they still don't fully know what they're talking about so they're still open to hearing alternative views.
