Some needed a day...to get over Trump's election. You may need four years...

i got no problem with an employer saying they don't want political views spoken out in the open by their employees. it will only piss off clients/customers. Just a business decision

    this.

a company can fire people if they think their actions are bad for business and clearly they thought she crossed the line.

    her comments are idiotic, btw.

of course...and arent private companies allowed to do things that they think are best for their business?

Out of curiosity...is this how you feel about Colin Kaepernick taking a knee before the start of games for the San Francisco 49ers?

I am sure this won't hurt her career too much. She will use this to her advantage one way or another. Her post was pretty spot-on.

God did have a plan, evidently. He thought she should be fired from her job.

Her post says "Look what Obama has done," then it implies that Obama has caused us to hate each other, and the reality is that we are wrongly blaming whites for killing blacks, when actually blacks are killing blacks more frequently. This line of thought has a number of problems:

    1. Blacks killing blacks has no meaning. If you're a man and you get murdered by another man, does that mean you somehow deserve it because men are killing each other?

    2. Blacks killing more than whites do also has no meaning. Guess what: Americans kill Americans much more than ISIS does. Does that reflect on ISIS or Americans in any way?

    3. She shows no causal link between murders and Obama.

The Lord works in mysterious ways inside that woman's noggin.

You can be a free thinker, just not a dumb thinker. No white conservative ever had issues with black on black crime before Obama took office. Now Obama is responsible. What? Anyone with a brain understands that this incredible up surge in concern by conservatives of black on black crime is simply a deflection and a diversion from the protests of racial injustice that conservatives want to marginalize and delegitimize. Per your usual, you want minorities to be most concerned with what you think is important and not with what they think is important. Of course the problems aren't mutually exclusive and you can protest police brutality while being just as concerned about black on black crime. Only stupid people think you can be upset with the one and not the other.

The best question is what the hell have conservatives done about either problem, ever? Answer of course is nothing.

his employer said they dont have a problem with him doing that. his direct supervisor, the coach of the team supports him. his co-workers support him. the team owner supports him. again, a private business will make the decision that is best for their company/brand.

I agree. But, in this case did the employer have a rule in place that prohibits an employee from expressing an opinion on social media? If the employer does have such a rule, then it would probably be prudent for the employee to never even use social media. Sometimes people interpret words or statements in ways that they were never intended to be interpreted.

Regardless of the platform, who is still stupid enough to believe that social media is a "private" setting?

Isn't this what conservatives want? The ability to fire people for whatever reason.

the better question to ask is that a majority of cities, who have been under democratic leadership, have become some of the worst cesspools of crime and violence. Democratic leadership...and NOTHING has changed. Look in the mirror... Not sure what "white" conservatives have to do with black on black crime. White people arent the only folks that are conservative...

"Black on black crime" means nothing except that you think "they're all the same."

Doesn't look like she was fired for sharing political views, looks like she was fired for having stupid views.

I remember Scarlett when she worked for one of the Austin news stations a few years ago. Very easy on the eyes.

This firing by Fox 26 is likely just a PR/business decision. Happens all the time in nearly any line of work. They likely would've done the same thing if she came out against Trump and publicly came under fire for that. Her ill-advised decision made Fox 26 look bad in terms of brand and integrity. She's now "toxic" in Fox 26's eyes. My guess is that a lot of viewers called in to complain about her, and that some of her own colleagues (especially minority coworkers) felt uncomfortable around her and perhaps talked to HR. Could also be a "straw that broke the camel's back" thing...meaning she possibly had earlier violations/issues that we don't know about. Also, I believe it's strongly frowned upon for a local news anchor to express their opinionated partisan political views, even on social media.

There's a reason why most people with an ounce of sense and wisdom do not talk politics or any other emotionally-charged controversial topic at work or on social media...if they do, they are careful about when, to whom, and how they do so.

I think Scarlett will remain "toxic" for a little while longer in the eyes of employers, but in the long run she'll be fine and find another job at a different news company. I don't think she's a bad person; she just made a stupid decision and hopefully she'll learn from it. (Maybe Fox News will hire her.)

I don't think you understand what wrongful termination is (especially in the state of Texas, which is an at-will employment state where people can be fired for just about any reason outside of race/gender/etc). People get fired for posting things on social media all the time, in private or not. If you bring any negative attention to your employer, you are worth less to them than you previously were and thus can be fired.
