@heypartner My gut says Morey will play the scarface card. All assets utilized.

I don't buy the "will have to answer too" taglines and flexibility absolutely wins over basketball reasons (are you new here lol? - hello Chandler Parsons)

I am sure Pringles would love to have Dmo, but its not like we are hurting any right now. Being pissed, I highly highly doubt it. Dmo is very mediocre, and nobody outside of DaDakota, is going to shed a tear over him.

You describe it as a "failure", while its actually kind of a slam dunk victory. Restricted Free Agency is a two way street, the team gets the matching rights, while the player has the option of taking the QO. Morey gave his offer, and Dmo had the right to use his power in the situation and take the QO. When he didn't, he lost any power he had.

Frankly I think it would be silly for Morey to sign Dmo to a partial year deal. Why would he? What value does that add to the team? 60 games for a non contending team is Meh at best. A multi year bargain contract, with Non Guaranteed features, now that is something valuable for a team looking to add a big name. As of now, Morey is closer to getting the offer that he wants. If he pushes RFA again next offseason, and Dmo doesn't get any offers again, its over, Morey owns him. He can keep pushing back RFA until Dmo accepts a QO, but at that point, why would he? He isn't getting any offers, and he would have wasted a year of his career.

I think you are reading this one wrong.

lulz. Are you new here? Hello Anderson's 4yr / $80m contract.

Les got really pissed last year, and is paying two coaches salaries. He is tired of the cap-flexibility, kicking cans 10-yr plan. He wants to see Basketball Reasons / Basketball Results... that means Wins. "Cap flexibility has never won a game."

I'm going so far to say that Les made Morey accept the $20m/yr contract for Anderson.

Honestly...luv ya man, but this sounds like an argument you are hoping Morey screws DMo for Personal Reasons or BBS Reasons...like saying "I told you so" to the hardcore DMo fans. :D I admit,,,that would be a nice consolation prize.

The other part of that bluff is that the team is extremely thin in the front court and an injury to Ryan Anderson or Nene could happen at any minute which would be catastrophic to the team in their current state.

It's a fairly risky game of chicken for both sides and honestly I just wish it was over.

In no way is losing a year of DMo's career a "slam dunk victory" ... don't reveal your anti-DMo position for attack so easily, padawan.

I agree with @heypartner that we can't look at Morey's flexibility and spending in the past to guess on what he might do next. Things have changed. Les forced Morey's hand to utilize the cap space. Morey talked about this in Zack Lowe's article recently.

BUT, I do agree with @larsv8 that Morey will utilize DMo as an asset in some capacity.

The 11th Hour Compromise I posed, that larsv8 said Morey would reject, does make DMo a tradable asset. THIS YEAR.

So, I agree, too. I'm suggesting Morey wants that asset this year...not next....enough to compromise....versus the Scarface route....if the alternative means DMo doesn't play at all this year to showcase his value.

Yes but, its different. Parsons would have locked that team out max free agency. (No Bosh, no Melo, no LMA). Even with the Anderson contract, we still have a reasonable path to max money next offseason. Waive KJ, use our pick to dump Brewer. Do you remember an offseason when we haven't had max cap space or the means to get there?

Les forcing Morey? I doubt it. Unless you have inside information, and can flat out tell me that is what happened, I don't buy it. In fact, I am pretty sure Batman already told us that these were Morey moves. He has long pursued Anderson and Gordon.

I am simply going off of what I learned about how Morey operates by watching him over the past ten years. I don't need an I told you so for BTG and Joat. 1.) I have them both on ignore and 2.) They have been so comically wrong on so many things, what is the point anymore?

That part of the new CBA is confirmed by numerous reliable sources. WOJ, Coon, Lowe etc.
Apparently the league has even sent the new CBA to some ppl.

Nah, that guy proved to be a lost cause a LONG time ago. His opinion on the subject is entirely some kind of bitter personal nonsense that stems back to an old argument that he lost. IMO there's no point in me saying anything to him on the subject.

Not sure how valuable an asset Dmo would be this year anyway. He would be an expiring contract and thats about it. Its nice for salary filler but we don't really have the assets to land another star. Why would anyone want to trade for him, when no one is trying to sign him in free agency? We will see what happens on the 23rd I guess, but I am betting on nothing happening this year.

This leads me to another question. Now that the QO has expired, can we trade the RFA rights to Dmo, like we could a pick or foreign player?

Yeah but lets not forget that Les appears to have volatile emotional eruptions, and knee jerks pretty hard, while at the same time appearing to be a bit tight. So he might be a bit put off by his Anderson pay, but enthused by the amount Gordon and Nene are getting paid (for their production) - Morey might be saying 'leave this one to me Les'. Let's be fair, it does seem that, on the whole, Les leaves Morey to sort out the team stuff.

As far as MDA saying he wanted DMo in camp - simply seemed to me like they wanted DMo to feel wanted so he would push his agent to get a deal done. They may or may not have played him at all.

Anyway, that's mostly speculation on my part I guess?

Well, there're only 5/6 teams with enough cap space to sign him right now, but maybe other teams would like to have him...for example i remember the Hawks insider saying that Bud likes D.Mo.

This strategy is extremely risky. Being rusty after injury AND needing to be integrated to a new system TAKES TIME. He is losing time by holding out, not to mention the other PFs are gaining ground by getting more PT with his absence. In other words, the longer he is holding out, the less likely he can benefit from playing in MDA's system.

    CBA FAQ #96
Can a team trade the rights to a free agent, so the other team will inherit his Larry Bird rights?
Once a player becomes a free agent he cannot be traded, except in a sign-and-trade arrangement.

He will sign on the 23rd so he can't be traded - seems the most likely scenario.

If Josh Kroenke is still in the front office, they are still bottom 5 and I'm being generous. He's awful. A guy Morey can take advantage of.
