Most are going to say he needs more time. A lot are going to laud him for winning with the likes of Fitzpatrick, Mallett, Yates, Hoyer, Keenum, and now Osweiler. He's not going to get fired. If he does, his phone is going to be ringing off the hook.
I guess. But things seem to be very good between management, ownership, and coach. That could change though.

Remember, he vigorously defended Hoyer and Mallett prior to the '15 season; it's not like he passively inherited all these bad QBs' he's culpable. I mean, the NFL is certainly not above recycling - but a lot of these younger, inexperienced coaches have to "earn" a second shot. I can't think of a first-time head coach who was fired and immediately landed a job (although I'm sure they exist).
His offense has generally sucked. I guess he did a good job hiring a DC. BOB just fits the mold of good coach. He talks a lot and projects an image of a coach, but his results other than NE have been mediocre, and how much of NE success was due to him?
That's why I've never understood the whole "QB whisperer" narrative. Where did it come from? Because he coached Tom Brady? Um....I could coach Tom freakin' Brady. "Tom, just go out there and do what you do." There. I just coached Tom Brady.
Maybe. I guess time will tell. Of all the 1st time head coaches hired in the same year as O'Brien, who is most likely to be fired? And who is most deserving to be fired? Lovie and Pettine are already gone. Mike Zimmer, Minnesota Vikings. Bill O'Brien, Houston Texans. Jim Caldwell, Detroit Lions. Jay Gruden, Washington Redskins. It is arguable that the Vikings have had a better 2.5 seasons with their new coach but not the other two.
Make the case for keeping him. Here's the case for firing him: 1) he has consistently swung and missed at the QB position; 2) his teams rarely beat better teams and are often beaten soundly by better teams; in fact, he's been the head coach for some of the franchise's most lopsided losses 3) his in-game decisions are, at best, questionable; he routinely bungles challenges, the end of halves, and he probably should have been fired for Foster's season (career in Houston) ending when he was playing down, 41-14 in the 4Q @ Miami; 4) name an offensive player he's developed... 5) his (mis) management of Brock Osweiler; it's been embarrassing watching him rotuinely fail his QB
I think it is Godsey that needs to go and not O'Brien. I have been saying that. He's the QB coach and offensive coordinator and the QB is playing like trash and the offense is offensive

He has been more than marginally better than the fired coaches. He has been better than Caldwell and Gruden. The only arguable is Zimmer. Many of those are reasons to fire the offensive coordinator; not the head coach.
1. You're foolish. Where has there been a quality QB to be had during his tenure? IQBs with any shred of talent don't become available in the NFL. Joe Flacco is making over $20 million, Kaepernick is making $19 million... seriously. 2. He has gone 9-7, 9-7 and is currently 6-3. Your argument here is invalid, and ignorant. 3. You clearly know nothing about the game of football, especially coaching. 4. They've drafted heavily defensive in his tenure, and they currently have a top defense - and two of the most dynamic receivers in the game, and a run game that averages 120 yards per game, with 4 scrubs and an all-pro left tackle as the line. 5. Mismanagement when he's 6-3? With two wins against current first place teams, while losing the best defensive player in a generation for the year, 4/5 of their offensive line, a star DB, and several others. Thanks for proving my point for me. The guy went 18-14 with NINE QBs getting playing time over his first two years. GFTO of here, and please become a Cowboys fan. Were you dropped on your head as a kid? They lost on the road to two very stout defenses (as in top 5 in the league), and the Patriots. Wake the hell up. Don't come in here and challenge my case, when literally every metric that counts - is in my favor. BoB has a 24-17 record thus far, without top 20QB play in likely the hardest sport in the world to coach.
Well 1. They could have had Derek Carr but they went for Savage, Mallett, and Hoyer instead....I mean, that's one REALLY valid instance.
I'm not convinced that would have worked. If Carr came in here and had the 0-10 start he did at Oakland we would have rioted and called it a stupid move, maybe Brock should get that time. Also, he has a better Oline there, not sure he would do THAT much better here.
You realize he has a winning record, right? Seriously, WTF are you guys smoking? There are likely only two coaches in the league that could have done as good as BoB has done over the past two and a half seasons, with the talent he has. Andy Reid, and Bill Belichick. Anyone who knows anything about football - as in has played it for years, and studies it, knows that BoB is a hell of a coach. Literally the only other coach in the league I would want other than BoB, is the Hoodie.
Texans fans booed Watt. Carr would have been murdered in the streets had the Texans drafted him. I wanted Carr, but I fully understand why they didn't pick him.
Well yeah, I agree that the Texans have a fairly terrible fanbase, I was just saying that Carr would have been a good QB that BOB passed up to go after inferior options.....and it's not someone who was a late draft pick that no one expected much from. Saying guys like Brady or whatever aren't exactly fair. I'm also of the opinion that our terrible fanbase is whining WAY too much about Osweiler given what he's done with what he's had to work with. That garbage O line is enough to make any QB look bad.
Carr was awful in 2014; 5.5 yards per attempt was one of the lowest Y/A ever and he went 3-13 as a starter. Who is to say he would have improved or excelled under BOB's system? I want to believe he would be as good in Houston as he is now
