I disagree. To repeat the OP's premise, the country is as divided now as it's ever been. When Obama strong-armed his policies, you didn't see this level of violent protest. The opposition did what rational people do - they bid their time and gathered their arguments. They cooperated. Not like now. Trump is just president-elect and we're seeing this much immature and animalistic behavior. They're making terms and look like they will refuse to cooperate. I can't even imagine what they'll do when President Trump finally start implement stuff they don't want. The president should not change his policies just to appease them.
^LOL, yeah they really cooperated by refusing to work with Obama on anything. Was that before or after he strong armed them?
The protests largely weren't violent, but the reaction to Obama's tactics was the Tea Party stuff that really took off in 2009. If the Republicans do the same thing Obama did, it'll lead to a similar reaction though given the age and maturity level of your average liberal protester they'll probably be more violent and destructive. Basically they need to rise above the pettiness of the Obama administration and just be better than that. Only time will tell if they are capable of it.
It was a reaction to it. Obama had a very short period of time when he could just strong arm his policies into law, after that, he needed the Republicans to help him and after the way they were treated initially, they weren't willing to do things his way and he wasn't willing to truly compromise. It's why you don't want an ideologue in chief.
Yeah. Conservatives were ideologically opposed to it. Just because you lost doesn't mean you are forced to change your beliefs. But the way they opposed it was within the confines of the law unlike the liberals right now. If we see the degree of protest turn violent throughout Trump's presidency, it cannot be tolerated.
You realize that the "crime rate" is equally proportional to the population of these areas, right? Anywhere you have a concentration of people you are going to have higher instances of both good and bad things that accompany human existence.
I think its a good gesture, but as hopeful as I can be of Trump as a human being wanting to protect his legacy, I dont trust the GOP K Street cronies Pence is floating around for cabinet. The first 100 days will be more painful than kidney stones passing through a narrow urethra, most likely for good reason if Trump retreats in his Tower while Pence calls the shots. An ******* more powerful than Cheney...Americans ****ing hate learning history.
Trump is apparently going on a victory tour of the states that voted for him ala the Hunger Games while President Pence executes the right-wing agenda. There will be no healing. No bridging together. It's not for Hillary, Bernie, and Obama to heal that rift. It's for Trump. And he has no desire to do that.
The election was rigged in favor of Hillary .... Twice . Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign for showing favoritism to Hillary over Sanders. Donna Brazile .... didn't have the class to resign after giving Clinton debate questions on multiple occasions - at least CNN fired her .... Sanders probably would have defeated Trump .... but the D's were having none of that. How much more evidence of rigging do you require ?! As for Trump , he won despite the media , despite Hillary's smear tactics and despite his own party .... I find it almost comical that the R's are talking about a unified party when they all attacked him.
No , there is a VERY TINY minority of his followers who took those things to mean what the smear campaign by the media & Clinton campaign made them out to be .... The vast majority of them understand that the Mexican comment was taken out of context and that the muslim issue was a temporary measure because until we can properly vet those individuals they present a risk to the safety of our citizens. All it takes is one .... and we have a tragedy for Americans , what then ??? Tell the survivors I'm sorry for your loss , we could have prevented it but because of politics we chose not to....
Brilliant Solution! Three-way. Uno- Popular Vote. Dos- Electoral College. Tres- Congress Vote (but make Congress 539, no 538). Best 2 of our 3= President. Very Good!!
That's the thing brah, dem voters stayed at home because of the dirtiness. If "the establishment" illuminati really rigged elections Trump would not be elected. At the end if the day a voter is a voter. Being a dumb as bricks hillbilly is as vote worthy as an elitist shill. Trump played that and got out the vote in the swing states
Its not a "very tiny" minority. You're wrong. But let's play your game. Even a "tiny" minority of 60 million is still a lot of people. You realize that there's already a proper and VERY thorough vetting system, a multiple year process, to allow refugees in, right? I'm sure you knew that. Yes, I've heard the bit about how the media smear campaign changed Trump's words from "illegal Mexicans are rapists" to "Mexicans are rapists." Why exactly do you think saying the former is better than the latter? You can blame everyone else: the media, Hillary, liberals, minorities; but ultimtalely it is Donald Trump who needs to take responsibility for his discriminatory and divisive rhetoric. This isn't grade school. It isn't a matter of "who's worse." If Trump really wants to "unite this country" as he says, it's time to fully denounce the inflammatory and discriminatory rhetoric, as well as those supporters of his (the very tiny minority as you say) who feel they have become empowered by his comments.
What Trump played to was the middle class ..... who have taken a beating the last 8 years with their jobs either leaving the country , regulated out of existence or taken over by illegal immigrants .... while they are being hammered with expenses like ACA. There aren't that many dumb as bricks hillbilly's .... there are a whole lot more middle class people and it really doesn't matter if those people are city dwellers or live in rural America. This election comes down to economics .... with ACA and JOBS being the biggest issue and the Dems all but dismissed the middle class in favor of special interest groups. The middle class is the largest voting block there is , regardless of race , creed or color. Really we can throw race out the window .... the racists on one side just cancel out the racists on the other. They did everything they could to ensure a Hillary presidency .... WikiLeaks just outed their plan and pissed off the voters. Basically the DNC out smarted themselves .... and if not for WikiLeaks we probably would have gotten Hillary.
Depends on the middle class. States like Iowa had a great economy but voted red because they were told they could do better in a not so great nation. They essentially voted against their current standing. Or you could say they voted for the brash "call it like it is" nasty, racist, sexist white guy. Because the real poor were getting help, believe it or not. I genuinely hope trump will enrich the lives of the rural middle class because the numbers look ****ing great right now compared to the shipwreck left by the Wall Street Collapse that lost ten of trillions of dollars. Wages were even rising. If trump can do better, he and the Republican Congress are on the watch. Not going to happen. The world thinks we're a disgrace and half of them are worrying about his alt right connections with people like Steve Bannon. Trump laid that bed. He hasn't denied it to this day and leaves people like you to apologize for him. What do you think of Breitbart? Would you flip your **** if Hillary brought in your definition of "a leftist racist" to shore up cabinet strategy? Fair enough, but if that's all you can fall back on in response to trumps rigly bigly charges, then we're going to be in for another trillion dollar wmd-but-really-no-wmd cluster****. No accountability.
Protests are unproductive. Yell, scream, curse, hate. Ugh. Protest- @ the voting booth. 2018. Don't block road. PLS!!!!! Can't get to work on time- boss fire me. Block Rs in 2018.
