It's easy to explain why people pass to Brewer. He can't shoot, so he's always open. Harden's brain works in a way, that he recognizes where the open man is and passes the ball to him. In my days I used to do the same thing when having a selfish and bad shooter on my team, I'd always pass him the ball even though I didn't want to, but your brain works that way, you don't see names or stats on the floor, you see your teammates and the other team's players. You make decision to pass in a split second, no time to identify who the man you're passing to is. If you tried it would delay your passes and everything would blow up.
Sounds like you can play the point. You must be better than Tyler Anus and you could take the Rockets to the next level Get er done Maury
Geez, it's like you're watching someone else. It's not like he was ever a greatly talented player but for his lack of weight, he is long and quick and very active defensively. He WOULD make 3/4 3s in a row or run fast breaks. Where has THAT brewer gone? Don't get me wrong, I'd take him in all his streaky, streaking glory. Forget making a shot, he's barely hitting the front of the rim. Forget fast breaks, he just runs ar defenders who already beat him down the court. Forget 17 in one game, funny that's the replay and number shown..he's scored 17 in November. 6 games. Geez. It's just time to give the youngins a shot. Let them develop and get comfortable with harden. Put someone out there with baseline levels of self confidence. It. Is. time.
Getting DMo and Beverley back would be nice, but SG is our biggest position in need for sure. We need a competent SG to keep Brewer tied to the bench.
I haven't see shooting this bad since Mark Macon. He has to be cut. It's not even Viper level. He adds absolutely nothing to the team.
In three games as a starter, Brewer has more fouls (6) than points (4). He's shooting 10 percent from the floor and is 0-8 from the 3-point line. So yeah, I'd say he's proven to not be worthy of starter minutes. But what do I know?
Is there really a team out there we won't have to pay to take him off our hands? I find it so unlikely right now. Waiving him could be best for him and us. This thing is strangling him mentally.
Well, you can relax. He isn't being given starter minutes. 16, 14, and 16 isn't starter minutes. He played his normal 15mpg, just in a different order. Both Dekker and KJ are getting >mpg this year. He'll probably get even less when Bev comes back. He's a stop-gap vet, due to injury. We can disagree and say he should get 0 minutes, but honestly, how many people actually think he's getting more minutes now than before, much less "starter minutes." Do ppl hate him so much they actually think he's playing more than he is? Like last year, when many thought he was playing PF, when Ariza was, all because we'd sub out a PF when Brewer came in for small-ball with Ariza switching to the 4. Lot of anger around Brewer on things like "starter minutes" and playing the 4 that aren't happening.
We literally lost yesterday's game because of his inability to contribute on the offensive and defensive end. Our philosophy is predicated on spacing and Brewer singlehandedly destroys that.
Why would anyone feel sorry for Brewer? He is making 7m this year. Feel sorry for me i am on Social Security.
Didn't think of that (although I noticed Anderson doesn't seem to want to pass to him - but Anderson is much slower than Harden. Watching yesterdays games, many of the passes to the wide open Brewer were near the end of the shotclock and Brewer was the only open man. But it still doesn't explain why he's getting minutes though.
D'Antoni said of Brewer in the starting lineup. "His defense, his professionalism, being a vet, his energy, there are a lot of things that like I said that doesn't come out in stats. It comes out that you feel it, as a coach or as a teammate, he gives those qualities, those extras."
Simple to me. He's getting minutes along with prayers in hopes he'll get better so his trade value will increase. Rockets would probably have to give up a 2nd rounder to trade him at this point. A 2nd round pick is more valuable than Brewer. Perception wise, starting him could have been done to increase his confidence and value.I could be wrong. I think he'll be traded soon, but the Rockets will have to give up more than they wanted mainly due to his horrible play.
1) WRONG 2) WRONG 3) This is a problem for a lot of coaches that fall in love with players instead of those players' play on the court. I hope MDA comes to his senses or he is just doing this for Morey to help trade Brewer.
Sorry, my phrasing wasn't ideal here. But I'm more than aware of the number of minutes the guy's playing. And I think you're kind of missing the point. The point is that the guy shouldn't be starting the game and shouldn't be getting as many minutes as he is with the first team, because he's awful and not producing. Am I saying that he should get zero minutes? Not necessarily. If Ariza, Gordon, McDaniels and Dekker are either playing badly, in foul trouble or simply need a rest, I have no problem with Brewer seeing the court. Or if he suddenly shows some improvement and show start hitting those corner 3s, I have no problem with him seeing playing time. But right now, all four of those guys have played better and have proven their value over Brewer. He's awful. He provides very little benefit on either end of the floor, and he's simply a minus whenever he's on the court.
He isn't Shane battier. Shane battier would have games where he scored 3 points, have 2 rebounds and an assist. That was his specialty lol....but he would've also dove on the floor for 3 loose balls, locked up the best shooter, taken two charges on help D, boxed out anyone even close to him, gone 1/3 from the corner miss 2 and hit the biggest shot of the game, fired up the whole team all game long, remain determined and hungry all game long and dished out 700 high fives. No stats superstar. Ultimate glue guy.
There's no way for him to be gone unless the Rockets just cut him and eat the rest of his ridiculous contract. Due to that, he's not going anywhere.
Imagine being so terrible at your job in every meaningful aspect, but your boss is cool with it because you provide "energy" and "professionalism" while making millions. Corey Brewer is living the DREAM, y'all.
