Well I sure as hell am not ready to change forms of government. So I'll keep this one. And America is doing remarkably well upholding the government so far. That's very encouraging, actually. Hillary won the popular vote and lost the election, but our governmental systems seem pretty stable. I am glad about that. And Trumpers, have you STFU about a "rigged" election yet? One of your main beliefs has already been proven wrong, and Trump is not even on the job yet.
It's not going to heal. You can't find common ground with bigots, sexists, and xenophobes. You've elected a candidate that peddles in hatred and fear. A modern Mussolini type strongman with a troll army. An erratic, mentally unstable narcissist who can't speak in complete sentences or hold a coherent thought for more than 15 seconds. A man who regularly lies with impunity and delves in conspiracy theories and innuendo as a means to anger and rally his ignorant base. It's embarrassing frankly. I really thought I lived in a better country than that but apparently not.
1. It would help immensely if the GOP leadership and POTUS-elect Trump would make a joint appearance and state that they reject the language of division that arose during the campaign, that they absolutely reject the hateful reactions of some emboldened asshats (like the KKK, for instance), and they want to reassure that they will govern for peoples of all colors, sexual preferences and disabilities, etc. (That may seem obvious to a lot of you conservatives, but to a huge swath of America, it is not obvious at all after Trump's numerous campaign statements.) Since they are now very powerful, it would not harm them a bit to make such a gracious gesture, especially since when the votes are totaled, Trump will have lost the popular vote by about 2%. 2. I am not yet convinced he will try to become a Mussolini type. We might just escape with a Berlusconi type analogy. Still bad, but not a descent toward fascism outright. 3. I still don't buy what a lot of my lefty friends are buying: that 18% of America is sexist and racist, etc. The pendulum almost always swings back against a two-term president, and the economic desperation in the middle of the country (and the rural northeast) is something you have to really visit and sit with to understand. Do I think the GOP and Trump can help those people, at all? Well, no. Their manual manufacturing jobs are gone for good. But I understand (barely) how an otherwise decent person decides to vote for major change to government after fighting for years to get a few extra hours part-time work at Walmart just to feed a family. (And this is to say nothing about having watched 8 years of steady fear-mongering Fox News about the evil, snotty president who doesn't care, etc.) Along these lines, the "deplorables" line was super-powerful in the Midwest. You work at Walmart, eat at McDonald's, feel like rich America (the movie stars, the athletes, the politicians) are all looking down their nose at you. Then this very cold, aloof and shifty-seeming woman (sorry, she just is -- that's what she projects when campaigning) calls you "deplorable," reinforcing what you believe the country thinks of you. So when some orange, plainspoken person (even a big asshat with many negative qualities) says he hears you and he's going to change everything, I can see people voting for that. I don't condone someone ignoring racism and sexism, but I am just saying I can see how and why they did it, without it meaning they are themselves truly racist or sexist. But I'm feeling like I'm in a minority position there right now, on the left. I'm strangely in the Michael Moore camp, even though I usually find him to be a buffoon.
Adding to my point #1, it would probably also be good for the president, Hillary, Bernie (etc.?) to make a joint appearance / statement that they do not for a moment believe the majority of Trump's voters are racists and sexists. That they recognize the country voted for anti-establishment and out of economic frustration much more than racism and sexism. *If* they believe that (and I'm pretty sure Bernie does, at least), then maybe the protestors, a few of them, would really hear it. The protestors really think they live in some horrific den of evil intentions. I think those with bad intentions are in a small minority.
The only way this country "heals" is if somehow, someway we start looking at each other as friends and look very suspiciously at all politicians. I KNOW I have way more in common with left leaning folks here than I do with Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump or Barack Obama. Once people understand this basic and true concept, then the next thing to do is figure out how they ever forgot that basic premise in the first place. WHO is telling you to "hate" the other side? Should you really trust that?
Obama, Bernie, and Hillary have done what they are supposed to do. Truth is...they are not going to do that. Trump started this, he needs to address it.
I've been asking liberals for direct quotes for months. They love to call anyone who didn't vote Hillary ignorant and uneducated but they are just as guilty.
Trump has said the right things...but now he needs to strongly denounce that fraction of his base. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/2..._black_freshmen_at_UPenn_with__lynching_.html I honestly don't know why they feel so emboldened, if they think this is now a lawless country or something or what...I hope during his inauguration he says something that this is still the country it was 4 years ago. That attacks against minority groups will not be tolerated etc etc. That article explains why people are coming out in demonstrations against Trump... some people may not live that reality honestly so they never just get it. Even if trump didn't say "Attack all blacks, muslims, latinos! Let's go at them folks!" that's what some of his supporters seem to think he said. That has to be fixed somehow, they have to be thrown back into their corner and into their bin.
Come on, guys. That is just disingenuous. You can lob whatever you want at the left, fine. But you can't say "where are the quotes, where are the quotes?" as if it's a big conspiracy that Trump said unacceptable things that any of us would ground our children for. (Thank you and well said, Popovich.) Not going to google what is readily available in tons of reputable outlets for you. If you think it's all made up, then we really are closer to the post-fact abyss than I even think. And nevermind all his retweets of truly abominable garbage, *during* the campaign. If you can't admit what the dude said and who he mocked, etc., then that's definitely not a good step toward any sort of healing. Pretending that didn't happen, or calling people who suffered through it delusional is going to actually prevent any sort of healing. But you do what you need to do. I am working to choose to avoid thinking all the awful isms laid the foundation for his rise, but as always, I will keep collecting evidence and fitting the data as best I can.
Its thee people who are the most ignorant .... There is not a single quote from Trump that was blatantly racist not a single one .... Only TWO could be considered as being remotely close to that but we all know that was the liberals deliberately taking it out of context .... when he stated some ILLEGALS are rapists and murders ..... and the Muslim issue which was taken FAR out of context by the media. Two points to make on the illegal issue A) its an absolute fact that some are exactly that. As it turns out according to a recent government report , there are 2 million Criminal Aliens residing in the USA .... Do you really want those individuals here ?? I doubt the illegals who aren't felons want them here either .... B) Illegal Alien isn't limited to any specific race , creed or color. BUT Since when is ILLEGAL ALIEN limited to any race ?? Three points to make on the Muslim issue A) It was stated that they would stop taking people who couldn't be VETTED from areas that produce terrorists. Not that there would be a BAN on Muslims. B) Someone explain to me why we make these people our problem when we have enough problems of our own , We have homeless and poor and veterans we treat like garbage .... How bout we solve our own problems before we dig into that sand box ?? We have an obligation to our citizens ..... anyone else should get in line. C) Muslim isn't a race ....
I completely agree with this. Trump has done a terrible job of distancing himself from this rhetoric. I get it. Those groups help him over the line, but now is the time to stop it. But this doesn't stop with Trump, this is Obama's shitstorm too. He is doing nothing about it either. And just FYI, Hillary is up by .5%, which equates to approximately 600,00 votes. Use a little bit of common sense here ... if she can drudge up another 1.8m votes to make it 2%, then the election would not have been decided yet. Do a little fact checking please instead of cherry picking liberals blogs. This is another one of those common sense things. Hillary lost to friggen Trump. How bad is that? And Trump barely won against one of the most unpopular candidates who was hammered with allegations of all sorts. To even try any sort of dictatorship, they first must have some support. When people ramble on about this rhetoric, it makes me feel like they have no clue how our government is ran and the distinction of the three branches of government. I follow you on this. Both sides need to embrace the other side more. Im a little less judgmental on conservatives because they acknowledge they are intolerant. The left stands on their soapbox of tolerance but they are quick to judge and ridicule anyone who disagrees with them.
You're compounding on my exact point. You just told me you're not going to bother to look for direct quotes because they are readily available. If they are so readily available, then take 2 seconds and copy and paste one where he is being sexist or racist. Would you like to start with the most famous one, claims of where he admits to sexually assaulting women? Lets not leave out the part where he stated as a star, they let you do anything (consensual). He's racist because he stated (factually) that some illegals are rapist and murders? He hates all muslims because he wants to put a TEMPORARY stop on immigration from volatile nations? Yes, Trump has made some off colored and distasteful comments, but not being PC doesn't make you a racist or bigot. This isn't about defending Trump. This is about liberals being disingenuous. If you really want to hammer on Trump, then lets talk about real flaws. But I also suspect we will find these flaws are the same with any other person of power.
It's simple. Stop watching TV(Houston sports teams are fine). Things are not as bad as it seems. What we witness on TV/social media are typically extremely dramatic views on certain events. I think we should get away from it.
Come on, now. I don't see any Mexicans giving me problems. Then, no problem! I meet dozens of Muslims at work everyday, with no problem whatsoever: so, no problem! I have a job: no jobs problem! I don't see any abortions happening around me: no problem! No Syrians troubled me in the least bit: no Syria problem! Right? I stuck my head in the sand and I saw . . . sand.
I don't understand why people are looking to "heal" (whatever that means) or what they are looking to "heal" exactly. I also don't understand why some refuse to admit that Trump routinely made discriminatory remarks during his campaign against lots of minorities. Did he ever make any "questionable comments" towards lower to middle class whites? Regardless, even if you can blindly sit here and say his comments "weren't meant that way" there's still a bigger issue. There's a good fraction of his followers (obviously not all, and maybe not even most) who took it "that way." That's the problem. That's what being "divisive" is. It can't just be brushed aside as "not a big deal, grow thicker skin" because the people who feel divided are a minority and it's not "your side." It still matters to A LOT of people.
I need you to explain to us how you are misunderstanding these maps in order to let you know how wrong whatever conclusion you have come to is.
I did say that Yes Sir!!!!! But I've never been one to believe MSM. I'm very red pilled as compared so some normies!
I have no real conclusion. The country shouldn't be run based off what these crime ridden major cities want.
