I'm not really concerned with the whole healing stuff. Losers do not make terms. The presidency, the senate and the house are under Republican control. Liberals will either have to cooperate or be left behind.
Sounds exactly like Obama when he was first elected....and that's not how you bring people together. I personally hope that Trump stays gracious in victory and doesn't go the route Obama did. Telling the opposition to either get on board or go away is the kind of divisiveness that defined the Obama administration. Hopefully the country moves past that and is better than that this time around.
Let me know when you decide to reduce your carbon footprint to absolute minimal and we can talk about climate change. Oh, and tell me how you're going to deal with China and India. Until then, quit being a drama queen on this subject.
Says the guy that knows 0 about me. Until then, quit acting like you know people. Edit: What bad logic as well, also I'm being the drama queen and not all the scientist that study it. But I know..."Don't trust them, trust the politicians instead!" ok...
It worked for the Trumpers. . .. maybe it will work for the Anti-Trumpers People dismiss and allow 8 years of crap flung at the president all of a sudden want to whine about 'respect the office' I have heard some say . . "I hope he has a successful presidency." I ask . . what the hell does that mean? He is successful in push his policies and agendas??? If so . . F*** THAT!! Dismissing the Dept of Ed? Removing Regulations on . . . everything. Striping Voting Rights protections through SC Appointments? Removing all Affirmative Action . . .so they can go back to unlimited Discrimination with out repercussions? Why the **** would I want ANY of that to be successfully pushed through? 1. How is any of that best for the country? 2. Why me and mine gotta take major losses 'for the country'? Rocket River
Well, if Trump acts as divisive as Obama and he blows all of his political capital on an unpopular bill that fails even before he's out of office.....and that's the sole accomplishment of his time in office, yeah, maybe it would work. To a certain extent, you are just going to have to accept the SCOTUS appointments just like the Republicans did when Obama was putting in far left justice after far left justice. That's just how it goes. If by "you and yours" you mean liberals....well you have to take major losses due to the Democrats nominating a really terrible candidate that couldn't inspire people to get out and support them. It's also because down ballot candidates failed to do the same. The Republicans managed to nominate good candidates for down ballot offices and managed to take away congress from Obama fairly quickly to negate the damage he was able to do. It's why it took till this year for Obama to literally double the national debt rather than doing so years ago. I would suggest that you work to do the same. You'll have to put up with Republican control for at least 2 years, but if you do things right, and Trump is as divisive as Obama was, you might take things back in 2 years. Even better, there won't be an ideologue in the White House then so some compromises will probably happen.
Myself, (like everyone else in this sub-forum), are already in the middle. Its everyone else who refuses to budge and compromise. The reality is there is very little 'middle'. When we talk 'compromise', what we really are describing is what group/policy/ect is going to be screwed to allow another agenda to be passed. And almost always the deciding factors revolve around what will give said party more support from the populace. Its never about the right thing. When people talk about meeting in the middle, when is the middle ever talked about? Almost everything is decided in black and white, left or right. Its always all or nothing. Nearly every subject is split down the party lines, regardless of how insane one side or the other presents their case. And almost every subject in practicality is gray, rarely black and white. Abortion, gay rights, health care, climate change ... I can go on and on of instances that are gray but treated as black and white by each side.
So tell me, do you do your part? Or are you expecting everyone else to pick up your slack? I can tell you, I do give a **** about the environment. People give me lip when I stuff my Honda Civic full of crap and tell me I need a truck. I use LED lights. I use motion sensors in my closets and other low traffic areas. I do everything as efficient as possible, not because of the cost savings, but its what should be done. However I do not support bullshit liberal agenda's like carbon tax. If we are to do carbon tax, punish the end users, not those 'evil' businesses. I am very supportive of green energy, but I am not supportive of bad ideas.
I appreciate what you are saying, but the thing is, we don't have to look into some mythical land of "what if". As recently as the 60's and 70's the system worked, both sides more or less got along with each other. They respected each other and they didn't view everything as a zero-sum game. I can say unequivocally that it can work, because it did work. People compromised all the time. In fact, for the vast majority of the history of the USA, compromise between parties was the norm. A great example would be the Missouri Compromise. It wasn't total capitulation by one side and domination by the other. One side wanted no slavery at all in US territories. The other wanted slavery everywhere. They legitimately met in the middle, and nobody died or committed suicide from shame or anything like that. There was no issue back then bigger than slavery. It was every bit the hot button topic that abortion is today. The old truism is, if both sides are unhappy, then you know it's a sound compromise.
A bunch of black people died. . . . . other were forced in to labor etc. . . . Somethings cannot be compromised on . . . but that is my opinion . . . . and I might be biased Rocket River
You know, no matter how much I and everyone else does their part it will not outweigh Trump's current plan of digging up every bit of coal and oil that we have and burning it. I think that's the big point here. Even if everyone does their part if you allow big companies to just throw up pollution into the air then how is one person doing all they can for the environment exactly going to help? It's like the equivalent of expecting Corey Brewer to win you games. Sure it's nice if he comes in and does something positive but you always depend on the superstar James Harden. If James Harden goes out there and turns the ball over 15 times and goes 6/30 well...it really doesn't matter what little ol' Corey Brewer did, he was always going to have a minimal impact on the game any ways.
I love the rubes who keep on the theme of how Obama is so divisive, what are his popularity ratings again? He's only divisive to folks who can't accept man of his.... stature... is able to tell them what to do.
The country can not heal. We have elected a man who speak derogatorily about Jews, Black, Muslims, Women, and Hispanics - the majority of the country. People didn't care about any of that and voted for him. This is a deep wound not between the left and Trump, but between the left and the right and it will not heal in our lifetimes. This is why Russia and China celebrates. Not because of Trumps policies, but because they knew his victory would weaken this country. This country is divided. We are not one nation. We are two. And divide it falls. This will be the beginning of the end for this country, as there is no going back. The left will never trust the right, Republicans have forever branded themselves with intolerance. Partisanship had already weakened the nation as politics were put before country. Now it will go into an extreme mode. The right sees Obama as a bigger enemy as Putin. And the left will return the favor with Trump. History will mark this day as the end of American Exceptionalism.
So you'd prefer heavy handed regulations over a carbon tax? Taxes are designed to discourage behavior.
You obviously do not have the basic understanding of supply and demand. When the end user needlessly burns off energy, a carbon footprint is still formed. Taxing business matters little. They pass those costs off onto their customers. Coal plants or any other business is not being punished. And its the end user should be punished
The end user can either pay more or become more efficient. What happened when gas prices spiked in the early 2000s? People bought more fuel efficient cars, used more mass transit, and carpooled. What happened when gas prices fell in 2014? It's not about punishing, it's about pricing pollution. So do you want heavy handed government regulations or a carbon tax to price pollution for you?
My comments specifically pertain to the process whereby two political factions who wanted very different things were able to get together and each faction made concessions so that a final deal split the middle of what each side was after. Hopefully I don't really need to explain that I'm not in favor of slavery. But just in case I'm being too vague, I'm not in favor of slavery.
No need to heal. Need to get rid of tRUMP. President Pence- that is smart. Don't agree with everything- but can deal with intelligence. tRUMP done by April 18, 2019. President Pence takes oath on 4/18/2019. Done deal.
