Given that both of these countries are celebrating most with statements such as:

Also, with Trump's proposed withdrawal from Asia and Europe, China and Russia stand poised to now take control of the region and become hegemonies

My prediction is that China will now expand its naval boundaries, invade Taiwan and annex it, as well as control waterways and aggressively occupy islands in the pacific. Economically, expect China will use its leverage to prevent any real concessions on trade stalling to buy time for another president to come to power as Trump will be easily distracted.

Russia will follow a similar tact and work with Trump to increase its power in the middle east as well as reestablish as much of the USSR as possible.

I am taking a wait and see attitude on this, no one really knows what Trump will do, not even Trump.

We'll get into a trade war with China, that's for sure.

I agree with this. Trump said a lot of junk in the campaign as part of a reality tv character schtick. Its impossible right now to know whether he really believes/was advised on those policies or if it was intentional to get elected.

Hell he already walked back the Clinton hate, saying America owes he a debt of gratitude lol. Rudy Guillani this morning said that the claims of her criminality may have been exaggerated by "others." (lol he was one saying she should be in jail!)

The reason for this country to be the greatest country in earth is NOT because of our great leader, but because of the system and value we have.

To believe an idiot will somehow manage to turn this country into North Korea single handedly is just idiotic.

What we need to fear is not Trump, but the point his campaign proved : this country is deeply divided and a lots of the true and great value we believed are just sadly don't exist anymore among the other half of the people living among us.

China and Russia's gains will be non-existent. Hillary and Bill won't be around to sell them influence and secrets.

Let me get this straight, OP. Russia hates Clinton, which in turns makes Trump in bed with Russia (with no evidence, BTW)

China hates Trump, so this makes Clinton in bed with China? There have always been allegations of the Clintons working with the Chinese.

The PRC will not annex Taiwan, at least militarily. Even if the US doesn't support Taiwan militarily Taiwan is too well armed and the PRC still doesn't have a legitimate amphibious force. The only way militarily the PRC can take Taiwan is massive brute force that will greatly devestate Taiwan and ruin it's infrastructure. In the process ruining the PRC's, Asia's and possibly the World's. The only way the PRC invades Taiwan is if Taiwan does something very reckless, such as declare out right independence. At the moment the Taiwan leadership doesn't want to do that nor do most Taiwanese. Both sides seem content to play the long game and the PRC's belief is that through increasing trade and cultural ties they will win Taiwan back.

As I said previously the real danger of Trump's presidency regarding the PRC is a trade war. Such a war will be costly to the PRC but the PRC holds a very powerful weapon in regard to US debt. Just refusing to continue to finance our debt will lead to a recession. A full on sell of US debt could lead to a depression. At the moment I'm expecting at least a recession if Trump seriously tries to take action on his protectionism pledges. My hope though is that pro-trade Republicans will block much of Trump's threats. For that matter I don't think Trump can be take seriously in his bluster. He's benefitted from imports and globalization and I think not so deep down he knows it's in the US and his interests to keep it going.

This is a point I've been saying for a long time. Trump ran a con job on his supporters who believed he is bringing back manufacturing jobs, building a wall or many of his other pledges. I was listening to one of Trump's advisors and a big donor this morning saying that most of what Trump said was just part of the campaign and not serious. He even went so far as sayign when asked about the wall that Trump "will build walls of understanding."

Clinton was villified, not without some justification, as a liar that will say anything to get elected. Now you have Trump team members admitting to that very thing as something to be proud of. To all the Trump supporters who voted for him because he's "authentic" and "tells it like it is" it's been two days since the election and his campaign is already telling you that most of what he said wasn't true.

Honestly I pity all of you who chanted so fervently "BUILD THE WALL" and "LOCK HER UP!" when none that is going to happen.

Sigh, I really need to find a gig where I can sell my vast insight on China to someone willing to pay big bucks for it.

China hates Hillary because she's always meddlesome from a political standpoint. But it's Drumpf that's going to destroy China from a trade perspective. But guess which one CCP is more worried about? Hint: if they can still squeeze a dollar out of every resident (they don't call their people "citizens", lol), that's still $1.3 billion dollars. But if they're not in the position to collect (e.g. Hussein, Gaddafi, Mubarak, etc.), then the country's prosperity does them no good.

Also, the whole thing about how U.S. can't get into a trade war with China is bogus. Take a look at your newer household goods and see where they're made. I bet it's less and less China.

The whole thing about us being doomed if China doesn't buy our bonds is also bogus. There's no shortage of people who will buy it. And there will be more buyers if Drumpf stays true to his campaign compromise and rebuild America's manufacturing. China (and a lot of others) has been selling our bonds left and right to prop up RMB (go take a look at CNH=X), and I don't see our bond prices crashing.

Google search the list of who's whos shorting RMB. And it's not because China is "manipulating its currency" like Drumpf proclaims. As matter of fact, the opposite is true, with PBOC vowing in January to destroy RMB short sellers.

Net-net, China is in real deep ****.

But all its government cares about is staying in power, and they thought Hillary wouldn't be good for that.

China does have quite a bit of toxic debt as they are still paying workers to dig holes and fill them, that is they care more about employment than profits. However, I'd bet the US would lose short term in a trade war with China. China is investing a lot in the places in SE and Africa that are becoming the new sweatshops and gaining clout in doing so. Long term I'm not bullish on China due to demographics and too much toxic debt that will need to work through their domestic economy and the global economy. However, a 4 year Trump term certainly has the potential of a trade war if Congress actually allows such a thing to happen. Ironically, the TPP was aimed at exactly combating China's tactics as China wasn't a member.

We might. Is that a bad thing? China has all sorts of unfair trade practices...and they sell a lot more stuff here than we sell there, so they would have more at risk in a trade war. They are looking to become the world's largest economy, though...so we would want a part of that. But maybe the trade war would increase that, not decrease it.

"How much influence will China & Russia now gain?"

China...none. Russia? Might be some. Trump seems more willing to work with them, which might lead to greater influence in certain areas. But then we were doing that already...look at Syria.

As for NATO...Trump isn't going to pull out of NATO. His comments on NATO were perhaps the most overblown of the campaign...and for this campaign, that's saying something. All he said was that NATO countries don't pay their share of NATO costs (which is true). So, there may well end up being some negotiations on that. Not seeing why that is a bad thing, but certainly don't see it leading to any withdrawal from NATO leaving Russia free to expand.

Drumpf doesn't need TPP because he wants all the work to flow back to USA instead of to even lower cost places via TPP. If he stays true to his pledge and doesn't wreck our air, soil and water in the process like China has wrecked theirs, I will applaud him.

I saw the preview for this thread on the bbs home page. Decided to un-ignore @Sweet Lou 4 2 for this.

Everyone here is aware that Trump loves to quote McArthur, a man who once asked Eisenhower to give him the power to nuke the North Koreans (while they were in retreat in China) and referred to Taiwan as the "unsinkable aircraft carrier"?

    Nuance, folks. Nuance.
