In 2008, right after Barack Obama was elected, Andrew Napalitano went on a Lew Rockwell podcast and made a pretty good case for people who were skeptical of an Obama presidency to have some hope and give him a chance. (Whether he was right or wrong is for another time.) I really appreciated that as I was less than pumped about an Obama presidency and it sorted me out a bit. So in that vein, let's try to keep this positive. Knowing Trump as you do, what would a good Trump presidency look like? Please don't say something like single-payer healthcare or mandating Christianity, because we know he doesn't much care for either of those things. I, like many others, have a lot to say about what bad things he could do; but here, let's focus on the good he could do. What do you think are realistic, good things that he could do? (From your perspective; obviously we don't all agree on what a "good" policy is politically.) I'll start: He could be less likely to start / escalate wars He could keep spending down He could keep taxes where they're at or lower them He could do something to lower health care costs
Looking at his plan, he's very against corrupt politicians. Wants to make it so there is a 5 year ban on working for a lobbyist after moving on from your seat. I do like stuff like that. Also that there is a chance he could work with Russia and ease relations...I don't know what that means for countries like Ukraine though...but Clinton was certainly going to have a tense relationship with Russia.
He can try to push explicitly surplus budgets that concede and pare down each parties' respective vanities: excessive defense spending for conservatives and entitlement spending for liberals. He could refashion himself as a James K. Polk type who has that one specific goal and would be willing to leave once he accomplished it.
I honestly don't care what he does as long as he: doesn't start a war; completely stops (and tells the American public to do so too) the divisive racist rhetoric that is galvanizing some of the less scrupulous members of society; stays away from anything that'll mess with my health insurance for the time being. Other than that, not much changes in day-to-day life.
If he can create jobs and increase income I am all for that, but he didn't provide any plan on how to do that.
Mexican wall Deportation of illegals Lower migration Banning of Muslims from war-torn places Ending the Syrian war Being tougher on China Disavowing the Saudis Stopping excessive aid to Israel Making up with Russia Lowering costs of businesses Bringing back manufacturing jobs Repealing Obamacare Repealing gay marriage Stopping affirmative action
Trump's economic plan would greatly increase the debt, which is amusing to me considering the Republican Congress that will have to pass his "proposals". However, the debt doesn't concern me much when it is spending on things we need like roads, bridges, water treatment plants, dredging sea ports, shoring up medicare, and SSN. It will be disheartening that Obama couldn't get Congress to spend on infrastructure and Trump does but that's just politics.
Create jobs for poor people so they don't riot in my neighborhood. Reduce government waste and corruption. Put wall street in its proper place to help out main street. Reduce reliance of poor states from the government. Reduce the national debt by a trillion or twenty while creating more jobs
This thread is going to be very mild in contrast to the "worst possible Trump presidency outcome" thread. Honestly if he respects the institutions of government when they rule against him (courts etc) I would consider that good. But there is nothing stopping him, and he has no restraint.
Best case scenario IMO is a fairly likely scenario where Trump is nothing but a figurehead with all actual policy being written by others. The other side of it is that he doesn't run his mouth like a moron and cause international incidents or be divisive like Obama was.....that part is more likely to go wrong though.
I don't think he has any intention of shoring up Medicare or social security beyond raising retirement age to 70 and the forms of privatization that amount to benefit reductions. Amazing how many middle and Lower class people who think government left them behind are voluntarily asking for a social security cut lol.
This is my hope, but I feel like his policies were already written by his planned advisors and those policies look awful
ACA actually shored up medicare to a degree. Any repeal of ACA will HAVE to include some sort of medicare legislation otherwise the debt will balloon more so.
Considering his plan on increasing military spending, unless he plan on reducing social security & medicare benefits, I don't see how can he keep spending down.
Repealing gay marriage. 1) he doesn't control that, and 2) what the **** is wrong with you!!!???? Answer me dude. That's some serious hate you have brewing in that mind of yours
