Trump isn't going to build a wall and I doubt you hear a single thing about it from him now but it CAN be done it just won't be. He did make a strong statement that our borders are an important part of what makes us a nation along with our laws. You can't ignore either one forever.

Our immigration laws are stupid and outdated. We need a path for people to become citizens that doesn't take a huge amount of $$$ and lawyers. If we have a reasonable path to citizenship the illegals that want to contribute will take it and we can deport the ones that don't. This is not evil, it is the way countries with laws work.

It works for Israel. Well...that's a reason. I would hope it never gets built.

Maybe it won't work. Who knows? What we currently do doesn't work either so lets try something different eh?

And that's a fair statement. I think everyone agrees that the actual ways to legally immigrate to the US are out of date and overly complex. I'd much rather adopt a system like Canada's which has some components that Republicans like (such as a merit based scoring system) and some things that Democrats like. Canada of course doesn't have Mexico on its border but they do a lot of things that we should think about.

Well, the US gave Mexico approximately 209 million in 2012 and 51 million in 2013 as foreign aid according to a quick Google search. Why not just stop giving them foreign aid, save a little money, and use it to shore up what we do have of the wall AND save up for future areas to be walled off? Plus just because something is not 100 effective does not immediately disqualify it as an option. We'll always have the poor and hungry amongst us so does this mean I should stop giving to charities because it's obviously not working in terms of completely resolving the problem?

I am actually. Of course you're a dope so you think applying for residency is like just sending an email and packing your bags. That's Trump's idiot America for you.

No, that's not correct. The wall was intended to be only present in spots, and never intended to stretch the entire border, except in Trump's rhetoric. That was not ever the intent of anything Bill Clinton started, or Hillary Clinton supported.

But this option isn't very effective for reasons that I and others have stated. There are certainly better options that the money could be used for regarding immigration. And would you give your money to a charity for the poor and hungry if there were better and more efficient charities that can do it better?

Israel is why you don't pay $20 a gallon for gasoline buddy... They are the only true American ally in the Middle East.

Because if you stop giving them aid, the situation over there gets worse, and they have more people that want to flood into the United States. They could also ease off on cooperation with drug cartels etc.

If you can retrofit the turrets from the retiring of the Warthogs, then the turrets.

I completely agree with you on this. Immigration needs to be easier, and as you said, the 'immigration tax' of lawer and government fees need reformed.

The thing that rubs me wrong with Trump are his overpromises and boasts to amass support from the ignorant. I understand that this is the way campaigns are sometimes run, and this one was no exception, but some of the things he said are just plain stupid. I'm not even counting him using the word "bigly" constantly during the debates.

"I know more about ISIS than the generals."

That's the quote that bugs me the most.

The sneak attack of Mosul business. That bugged me too. Because it's just ignorant.

The building a wall, and constantly having the crowd chant about it. That bothered me just because it's utterly stupid. Didn't bother me as much as the other stuff, though.

All of this, together though, shows that this guy has no clue when it comes to foreign policy. In the world we live in today, that's what makes me very uneasy about his presidency.

He can't have less of a clue about foreign policy than the current administration. If you can name one country that this we have a stronger relationship with than we had when Obama took office I bet I can name 5 that are weaker.

Not to mention that I have lived almost a half century and have NEVER seen racial division in this country like we have had since Obama took office.

Trump doesn't have to hit very high marks to improve on both foreign and domestic policies.... Obama was never a leader, he was a good speaker and an intelligent "cerebral" president but he has never been a leader.

Hasn't he ALREADY walked back the "wall" when he said it was figurative and he'd build a "wall" of additional security and actual enforcement of our current laws on the books?
