That is the result of the democrats practicing the politics of division for so long. Throughout the whole Obama Presidency divisive rhetoric is all we have heard.
What if I told you... the world keeps spinning? Turn off the TV, and live your lives. Those seeking to "heal" are the problem. This world is made up of billions of people that you are going to disagree with. Get over it and live your damn lives.
It looks like this wound will take cauterisation to heal. Only in this case the pain will be felt around the world and planet earth itself.
Well, I disagree, but I can understand why that would be your position. I like that the SCOTUS is likely to stay the same.
Well those of us that 'believe' in Climate change actually believe that this may have doomed the planet. So there is that.
And you're being melodramatic. Climate change will be saved by the all mighty dollar. Green tech is a booming industry.
Eh, that's not really my opinion on the matter though. http://www.vox.com/2016/11/9/13571318/donald-trump-disaster-climate Trump on the matter. With how the GOP has voted in recent history and their attitude about the climate doesn't give me much confidence here. Maybe if green tech started buying a few GOP politicians though.
And the GOP follows the dollar. Every single day green tech becomes more viable, and a better investment option. Moore's law has and continues to be the best ally to global warming. Just look at Nuclear vs. coal power. Too bad so many tree huggers for so long fought the expansion of nuclear power throughout the 70s and 80s because of the nasty word, "nuclear." To think that the government was going to agree on it one way or the other, was laughable. Even if Hillary would have won the election, the GOP wasn't going to lose the House or Senate. The economy is the best way to getting off of fossil fuels.
Nuclear probably isn't the best example. It struggles to be profitable against gas turbines. Right now, the big nuclear operators like Exelon and FirstEnergy are asking for ratepayer subsidies to keep the plants open. If we let the free market do its magic, a lot of nuclear plants would close and be replaced by CCGTs. Without subsidies for solar or anyone else, I expect natural gas would come to dominate our generation stack in the foreseeable future. Gas doesn't produce as much carbon as coal, but it'll be more than just a bridge fuel without some proactive government policy.
A huge reason for this was because of the lack of proliferation of the technology. The more prolific a technology, the cheaper it becomes. Economics of scale is a thing.
I don't know if I buy that either. Other countries like France and Japan made big bets on nuclear and built many plants. I think the technology has had plenty of opportunity to be perfected. I think you can say regulation makes it very expensive, but nuclear plants go really bad when they go bad, so I'm not sure you could say they are over-regulated. And there is still this pesky issue of having no place to put spent fuel.
The planet is going to be fine. It's life as we know it that will be eventually doomed. Look at Venus. That is what a runaway greenhouse effect looks like.
Its hilarious in a sad and desperate way to read everybody's prescription for unity in this thread. For the most part, they all detail all the stuff that the other side needs to do. Nobody seems to even contemplate the work that they need to do. No wonder everything is so fractured. Everybody expects the other side else to do all the work. The one thing that everybody absolutely has to do is be willing to meet the other side in the middle. The only person whose behavior you have absolute control over is your own. As Ghandi once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." So if this were my thread, the question id ask would be, "How are you willing to change yourself in order to help heal the country." Or at least I would so that if I didn't suspect most people's answer would be "nothing at all". At this point, the only thing I can think of that would help would be a real, immediate existential threat to the country itself. We need the Japanese to bomb Pearl Harbor, or British privateers to blockade the Atlantic coast. Under those circumstances, people seem willing to ignore their differences, at least for a while. But with our military might, I don't even see that as a posibility. The other thing that I think screws this country is that every side has their own media outlets that provide their own tailored version of reality. Back in the 60's people violently disagreed, but everybody had to turn on Walter Cronkite to get the facts. Now people can run through the full news cycle with full analysis without ever having to overlap with other viewpoints. So, what is it you are going to change in yourself to help bring the country together? Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do or our country.
The reaction to Trump's victory has proven this country does not want to work together and heal. Democrats want to wipe out Republicans and Republicans want to wipe out Democrats. I say both of them to Antarctica and let them go at it. Leave this great country to us independent thinkers who decide our positions by first discussing the topic.
Once I stop traveling, I really want to volunteer on the ground. One to help poor minorities learn coding and another to help old people and listen to their stories. There's something critical missing with non-profits... Even before this shitshow, I already felt out of touch to poor people and the disenfranchised.
Where was this 'healing' for the last 8 years when they were relentlessly attacking Obama? What *exactly* do I get by allowing and "Healing" with the new regime? What's in it for me and mine? Rocket River
You should want what is best for the country out of rational self interest. Anyway, those who want can stay bitter and hateful if they want but it might end up uniting people against them.
