Election isn't over and revisionist history already at work.

It was liberals who strongly supported Hillary. Everyone else voted against Hillary, not Trump. There are very very few Trump apologist. Nice try though!

Looking on from Australia & obviously well removed from this election. Given the numbers that we have seen over here, can anything be taken from the polls? Trump was a million miles away from winning the election not 3 months ago. All of a sudden the email scandal broke and Trump came roaring back.

Was this a case of everyone afraid of admitting to wanting to vote for Trump in polls, but quite happy to support him?
Or was it a case of Americans being sick of Bush/Clinton running the country?

Just curious on people's thoughts given that i think America has made a huge mistake today.

Yeah, there is voluminous and sad historical precedent for just that sort of expressed hope.

I am reminded particularly of the Jewish female physicist Lise Meitner when Hitler came to power in 1933. She wrote to her doomed parents in Austria that he sounded pretty reasonable in his first address as chancellor and that she hoped he would leave all the campaigning vitriol behind. ... Doh!

We know who this dude is, and he is who America wants. We're going to get it with both barrels, starting with every reporter, pundit, or comedian who made fun of him, and then he'll turn to the intellectuals.

I hope. My best friend is engaged to a dreamer. I'm a little afraid for him.

That sounds like an excuse to say Hillary *should* have won. Maybe, as @B-Bob said earlier, a loss would indicate pollsters and media have no clue how to poll/report on rural US. Same seems to have happened with Bernie giving her more for her money than most polled/thought.

I think the only thing we can hope is that this is the final end of the pendulum swing before it starts heading back the other way. Let's hope for the best. Those of us who are far away from retirement will hopefully be able to build up healthy accounts from the plummet in the stock market, and then have time to build them back up once Trump is gone.

All we can really do is hope for the best.

One thing I had been thinking about the election results, no matter who won, is that there would be a post-election spike in gun sales.

And you were right. But 538 was the rare exception. They continually caution everyone and even got attacked for that. Remember the 12-15% undecided, who I thought were mostly lending GOP voters... I think that contribute to it also.

Its a concern of mine too. I am honestly not worried about who Trump selects. I am more worried about the extreme right side of congress pushing for. Dont forget Trump is more liberal than conservative. He doesn't care for social issues much one way or another.

or more likely, he will have absolutely no power to get anything accomplished because nobody, Democrat or Republican, will agree to cooperate with him on any of the stupider stuff that came out of his mouth.

I wonder how many people who voted for Trump actually believe he's going to get Mexico to pay to literally build a wall across our Southern border?

    LOL

Remember that it was your party that nominated Trump. No matter how much you want to blame Democrats for nominating Clinton, the GOP is to blame for this Trump presidency. Hopefully he proves everyone wrong, remains a populist for ALL people, and does what is best for this country.
