I see potential... But nothing to get amazingly excited about yet. He's putting up basically average backup play. Projects out over 36 minutes to ok, average play. There's no area of extreme specialization. But you can see his shot might get really solid - upper 30s - and if he can just get above average across the board, so on a per 36 basis he's giving you close to what he actually already is, but with improved efficiency and defense, well that's solid production.
He is looking better than I thought, and since that minor back surgery has looked much more athletic.... Hope for DMo. DD
The hate for Dekker last year was limited to a few loudmouths who know nothing but say too much. In particular, FTW Rockets FTW again showed why he's the biggest loser in the GARM.
needs to finish the year...what he does means nothing if his back flares up like Dmo's.....but i think so far he's what we should have expected, but he needs to calm the nerves..
I've liked what I've seen from Dekker so far, he's better than what I expected to see from him this year. His shooting and finishing around the basket has surprised me the most. He's definitely a keeper at this point and I'm excited to see him develop.
Dekker is gna be a STUD....fluent, athletic, slasher, good IQ, and shot not that bad only get better! Defensively he needs work
I think this is basically it. I don't think he all world RIGHT NOW but I can see him being a solid rotational player After his Clowney year .. . . I was not expecting much Rocket River
He will not be as good as Parsons was for us. Stop it. Hes's not the ball handler, shooter, facilitator, finisher, or even slasher that Parsons was. Hes not even the defender that Parsons was. Ibly thing he and Parsons have is common is the color of their skin. Their worlds apart on the basketball floor. And I was happy we paid Ariza over Parsons
i liked the time he tripped and the ball hit his face...can't remember Parson's being able to do that. Still, I would not mind trading him away if the return was good
I think Dekker is gonna put pressure on Ryan Anderson to improve his game because Dekker is basically doing everything we brought Anderson in for, he's been dunking the ball, playing good D at PF and hitting his 3 pt shots. He's been playing really well and taking a crap on all the posters who said he sucked last year and the year before, I love it and great pick up by Morey as usual.
Parsons only played defense on his rookie year, when he needed to outplay Chase Budinger in the rotation. After that Parsons stopped hustling and started his pretty boy style of play. Parsons is definitely more talented offensively but his ego limited his play, he started avoiding contact and stopped playing hard nosed D and crashing the boards. Dekker is not as talented as Parsons was but at least he doesn't stop hustling and giving effort whenever he plays on the court.
Dekker is a rotation 3/4 tweener that had was a great fit on his collage team. I think and have stated in the past he is / will be part of our future success. I was hoping to see more quickness--> so he could cover most 3s giving us favorable matchups with his skill set. He seem to play by putting himself in nice position on both ends. In our offence off ball movement is key to success. His strong cuts to the basket plus his shooting keeps his man honest --> the double has to come from somewhere else --> making Harden shine even brighter.
Dek has a fairly simple game, if he sticks to it, he can be as good as Parsons was. If he tries too hard, well, he can be as good as Parsons is now.
That's really what it's all about . Are you a plus or a negative on any given night . Both KJ and Dekker have taken steps this year and are making more positive and smart plays than not . Dekkers ultimate ceiling will be based off his defense , because all his offensive skill set needs is time to mature . If he can find a way to guard 3's then I think he could eventually be a starter . Man if we can just get bev back healthy and sign up Dmo I would really be excited about this teams potential .
If Bev and Dmo come back By all star break i'd expect Starters - Harden Ariza Anderson Capela and Gordon Dmo and Bev first two off the bench Dekker and KJ next Harrel and Brewer next Ennis/and the rest . . . . . Rocket River
Agreed except I think Gordon will come off the bench if Beverley proves he's ok after a few games . I do expect nene to get occasional burn too . We can play "big " all the time and stay running . Hopefully Brewer doesn't play except for garbage time . KJ and Dekker could develop into solid wings off the bench with KJ being able to play some guard too . If we get Dmo and bev back we really are 10 deep . That's exciting even if some of our players are injury prone . There will definitely be a minutes crunch if all 10 are healthy and playing well , but that's a good problem to have .
Someone quick remind WTF Rockets WTF to post here ... given he wasn't shy about putting a rookie who was injured all season in his signature and saying he sucked.
