I don't think any candidate is as bad as people say. Except Trump. And Johnson. And maybe Hillary. My theory is that social media is killing this election. Too many people on Facebook basing their political views on stupid memes and biased blogs/articles (most of which are glorified chain emails that are easily debunked), then mistakenly thinking that they are well-informed on the issues. It's given a lot of stupid people a voice they didn't have before. And they're using it.
I'm not sick of the election. It's ugly, but this is actually how we run our government. It highlights problems we have in our democracy, but sticking our heads in the sand won't make it better. All 5 points has to do with limiting lobbyists (and their free speech rights). Nothing at all about campaign financing. So, a Soros or Koch can put in $100m to lobby for favorable treatment so long as he doesn't use a former congressman to do it? I won't get into whether it's a science, but I will point out that a political science degree is more of a credential for talking about the election than a chemistry degree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I don't understand the point of belittling political science in this context.
You know, I was visiting the Texas Prison Museum up in Huntsville yesterday, and these 2 ladies were reading these bios of people who had been put on Death Row- you know, they have this row of plaques with stories about them. One looks at the other and says, "Hillary Clinton should be the next display they put here. Come on, Donald." (whatever that meant). I mean, what can you do about ignorance like this? Sad.
There are people on a Kingwood bbs that I like to troll...I mean post on who seriously think the polls are rigged, the election is rigged and Hillary will be dragged away in handcuffs before she ever takes the oath. No hyperbole. Someone will post an "article" about a myth that was debunked 2 years ago, I'll post a link from Snopes saying so, and they will just say that Snopes is biased. SMDH....
Or Superman 4, as the villain's career will be over before it started, Hillary will probably fall off of a horse and be paralyzed and we'll have to feel sorry for Bill, Melania will become a falling down drunk, Mike Pence will probably start doing Lowe's voice-overs and Jon Cryer's clothes and hair still won't make sense.
Speaking of Huntsville... We went up to their Fair on the Square this year (pretty nice, BTW) and I saw high school and college aged kids wearing "Hillary Clinton: Best Friend of Satan" t-shirts. I was a bit saddened to see that, and I say that as someone who is not at all a Hillary supporter. Just sucks seeing young people get caught up in this nastiness. You know they're posting about it on social media, and it could follow them around for the rest of their lives.
Because we (political scientists) examine evidence using scientific techniques to help figure out how the world works.
This is a great point. One big problem with our culture is that complicated arguments are getting boiled down to 140 characters.
I agree with the OP. I can't wait for this election to be over but the fallout will last for years. I don't see how the Never Trump/I'm with her crowd will ever get along with the Killary for Prison crowd again. I'm just glad I'm on the outside looking in.
"ICP has discovered over the last decade, there's a whole army of scary, terrifying and dangerous clowns out there in this country trying to suppress the rights of thousands of people to exercise the most basic part of the Declaration of Independence, which evokes the freedom to 'Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.' The only difference is these clowns don't wear greasepaint." --Violent J
This is one of my biggest worries. No matter who wins the Presidency there is a big divide that needs to be addressed. In previous elections I didn't think this was so much of a difference. Even the election in 2000 that draged into extra innings. The problem that we have now is that we actually do have two different realities facing each other. Consider that Obama won a fairly convincing election that still hasn't dogged him with 8 years of a hard core that didn't consider him legitimate. To a lesser extent GW Bush was also dogged with the same thing. This problem has been abbetted by a Congress that has chosen to spend all it's time investigating and trying to bring down the Admin. rather than trying to govern. Finally when we have groups stockpiling weapons and reckless rhetoric about "the blood of patriots." I think there is something to worry about.
This election looks bad because the MSM has become one that promotes propaganda. You are witnessing the takedown of the establishment.
