I don't think it matters who starts. Both players will see a ton of minutes. I think starting is overrated anyways. It's all about closing that's important
My thoughts as well. Its not about his positive effect as a starter, he is a nice fit there. Its his body is not physically able to do it over a long period of time. We've already been through this with TMac and Yao already. Its a bit short-sighted to go all in for today's gain at sacrifice of long-term permanent health. I'd love Gordon to play 32 MPG as starter, but that's seemingly asking to repeat history sidelining him for 30 games.
Yes Kevin McHale was a 6th man on some of the best teams in history and made the Hall of Fame. Personally I'm with Jeff Van Gundy who says NBA is a "First Quarter" league and now a "Make or Miss" league. That's where I'm fine with Gordon starting. Come out with your best firepower to build a lead then hold it steady after. As long as the overall minutes aren't too much starting or bench, and Rockets still have firepower when Harden is OFF the court
EG is our 2nd best player. He's injury prone so important to keep minutes down. Glad to have Bev coming back.
I'm sure someone has said this already but if the guy would just STFU about ref calls and not getting passed the ball and every defensive breakdown, it would really make me appreciate what he clearly can do to help this team. He's been good. I don't know if it matters if he starts, but I'd like to see him getting 30 minutes a night consistently, and being the primary ball handler when Harden is off the floor. I love how he can play off the ball too, which makes him a great fit with or without Harden on the floor.
I have to object to that statement. Eric Gordon does not have a history of fatigue related injuries. His body is just fine and more than capable of an 82 game season at 30+ minutes a night. Last years injury for instance was a broken finger on his right hand. He broke it a 2nd time trying to come back too early but it is nothing but a fluke. He has had no issues with his knees the last 2 seasons, not even knee tendinitis. The injuries he sustained were freakish collision types of injuries but nothing that would indicate his body is breaking down from wear and tear. If you want to say that he is just one of those people that for whatever reason is prone to freakish injuries (and some people are) and you just want to limit his exposure on the court then there is not a lot I can say about that. I would say that the injuries that have cost him to miss games were just as likely to happen at the beginning of the game, after 15 minutes of playing time or after 36 minutes of playing time, so I really don't think limiting his exposure to the floor makes sense if you are just trying to prevent injuries.
If they keep playing like this will keep him in. But Bev is also a 40% 3pt shooter and the defense needs a boost.
srs guys who want him starting, you're forgetting its only been 5 GAMES! do you realize he'll have to defend the best pgs in the league as a starter? that will surely make it a 40-60 game season for him. if he comes off the bench, who does he guard? livingston, burke, jennings, rookies, scrubs, old geysers. u dont have to give your full attention to those guys on defense, its not like they're gonna drop 20 on you. just close out on them, hustle a bit, bla bla thats it. and since its only 5 games, u haveto give them time for a new system/roster. anderson has been mostly a spot up shooter here. that should change over time and then having gordon reduced to a spot up shooter will be wasteful. thats why i hate big 3s. one of them is gonna be reduced to a role player stganding around when they can be carring a much bigger load on offense. two stars is enough, u just need the right pieces. since eg has starting caliber talent but a fragile body, being a super 6th man will not only make the game much easier but his body is more likely to hold up. how many times have i said this this season? about 50-100?
So happy that we got Eric Gordon for 4 yr 53 million instead of Kent Bazemore for 4 yr 70 million. Bazemore choosing to stay in Atlanta was one of the better things to happen to us last offseason.
i don't think he is injury prone, i think he has had some freak injuries and just had bad luck. He looks really healthy and it makes it harder for teams to stop Harden with him out there
Speaking of....that reminded me of the hilarious garbage known as "words that come out of Rachel Nichols mouth" Will Patrick Beverley's Return Make Rockets Better? Spoiler
is that what they talk about on that show? rachel - is kobe a good player? guy 1 - no i dont think he is, he misses a lotta shots guy 2 - ima have to disagree with you on this. he makes a lotta shots too rachel - hmm good points. we'll be back after these commercials
It boggles my mind that people are paid to sit on TV and opine about teams they OBVIOUSLY DO NOT WATCH. Stephen Jackson could not sound more idiotic here.
