Don't ever call my beloved Texas the "midwest" again. You should be banned.

Sunil Thakkar is one of the worst people I've ever had the displeasure of knowing. Just an attention-whoring douche who thinks way too highly of himself, and has no moral standards whatsoever. I have no idea how he's brainwashed so many people into thinking he's worth a damn.

You're spot on. I had a friend who used to radio jockey for his station. I got to know him pretty closely through her. We even popped bottles once in a while but now I have ditched him. He is a phony amongst other despicable adjectives LOL. Funny thing is the dude's daughter was hitting on me when she was 16.

The guy is a grade A douchebag and moron. Believe me.

Basically, she doesn't want to move anywhere that's not within a couple hours of her family. Understandable.

Watched it last night and enjoyed it. I wish they had spent more time talking to those kids at Lee HS. That was my favorite segment.

My dad used to take me to the original Antone's on South Main (I believe) every Saturday when I was a kid. I think it closed a few years ago, but yeah...the po poys are all over Houston now. Like someone said, I can even get one in the convenience store in my office complex nowadays. I prefer the Super Original.

All this Antones talk is derailing the topic.

But I used to get Antones when I was younger all the time. But I soon realized how overpriced they are and the fat content is outrageous, something like over 50% daily value. I haven't had one for over 4 yrs, just can't justify price and fat.

Regarding the Houston episode, I'm with those that thought it was boring. Slim Thug was cool, the Indian supermarket was over done, and the rest was kinda meh. To each there own

Boring as hell and I absolutely love his shows, I've seen them all. I watched the Nashville one from two weeks ago last night and it absolutely blew Houston's right out of the park. Highly entertaining, VERY awesome food and restaurants, very entertaining scene and the people were fantastic.

The Houston episode, just as the city itself was just bleh. Big ol' soup of boring azz fawk.

BTW- Vice Channel has already done a doc with the local rappers so I wasn't impressed at all. The Vice- Screwed In Houston episode was excellent.

I thought it was a good episode for what Houston is as a city. It'll never be a tourist town. I think Bourdain wanted to show that Houston is the face of what America already looks like and is becoming more like every day: diverse and welcoming to people from all walks of life who want to improve their situations. It wasn't a mistake that this episode aired when it did.

how are so many people missing the point of this episode???? his agenda was pretty damn clear - demonstrate that in 2016 America, immigrants can be welcomed, empowered and enfranchised in a non-discriminatory way for the better of an entire community. although i was definitely expecting more shots of "cool" houston, which, believe it or not, actually DO exist, bourdain clearly was trying to drive home a point (****, he said as much in his monologues) that he deemed entirely necessary given the election.

if you watched the whole episode and can only think of how much more cool it could've been then that's on you. this wasn't one of those episodes.

    +1.

I don't think Houston is boring -- people are acting like a random quincinera and a backyard crawfish boil are the best this city has to offer? Hell, a stop over at Last Concert Cafe on Wednesday nights would've been way more entertaining than any of that crap.

I bet CF could put together a pretty great itinerary for him -- shame we wasted it on crap, made-up performances and suburban backyard life.

I only live here for work. I'm not bored, trust me. I just hate the dirty city, the crime, the zero scenery besides a couple of parks near my home, the weather, traffic, the insane taxes on my home just for living inner loop (For sale BTW!), blah blah...I'm currently talking with a company in Asheville, NC and I would even take a slight pay cut to move there. I LOVE the food here and would miss it dearly, I'm just over living here my entire life. Need change.

I love his shows, watch every one. This one was just not entertaining whatsoever.

We're the spurs of the country basically...which isn't a bad thing, but it's not great for TV entertaintment...i liked the episode, but it had a lot to do with me having a connection to it. I'm not sure it would feel the same, if I didnt.

"What exactly is boring about Houston" is like me asking you why you don't like a certain food.

From my personal experience Houston is not a very exciting city.

Don't take that as some kind of personal insult.

I love Houston but I have traveled a lot and I can tell you it's fairy boring compared to many many other cities.

Whenever I have guests or relatives visit, I run out of options on where to show them around this city or what to do besides the usual eat/drink..

I wouldn't call it "fairy" boring. @Band Geek Mobster is coming back from San Francisco. We're all cool.
