This is somewhat a tongue-in-cheek article by Feigen, mainly just to celebrate that 3 Nene made, late in the 3rd -- 5th of his career. But it does have some interesting quotes. Make special note of MDA saying "We are not going to encourage it, but..."

    ----------------------------------------
Nene connected on the fifth 3-pointer (in 40 attempts) in his 808-game career. The Rockets would be OK if he took a few more.

"I told him to shoot it," Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He can extend his career about five years if he hits it. But it's an easy shot for him. If you look, the form is great. We're not going to encourage it, but if he finds himself there, don't be afraid to do it. We had a few guys shoot worse than he does."
Nene said he thinks of himself more as someone to post-up and run pick-and-roll, but might look for his shot if teams lay off him when on the high post.

"I've always been shooting 3-pointers, but I know my job," Nene said. "My job is in the low-post. I set up screens. I might consider shooting more 3-points if that's necessary. If they disrespect like that, of course I'm going to shoot."
    ----------------------------------------

This absolutely cracked me up. D'Antoni's got jokes.

It was a great shot, somehow both announcing teams managed to **** all over it. Ackerman acts like it's the greatest shot in the world, but then Bullard says 'Ne-nasty'..and the Cavs announcers didn't even act like it was something worth mentioning.

The way he shot it, you wouldn't think it was just the 5th of his career.

Dwight wouldn't take that shot; afraid of missing.

When I first read that, I thought he was referring to his other teams. But now I wonder if it was about the Rockets.

Something to watch. With our ability to penetrate, the center should be wide open from 3 every time.

You can always have McDaniels crash inside. He seems to be good for a put back every other game.

If he's wide open and can make them, sure. I don't see it being a normal thing.

The form may look good, but I doubt he starts taking them in volume. I imagine it'll be like Pau Gasol's three point shot: unreliable.

Look, if they're going to give 10 ft of room and not make an attempt to close the gap.....that's the time to shoot it.

When teams know he'll at least shoot it they'll have to guard it. When they guard it the lane is a bit less clogged. So, the benefits are obvious...provided he's not throwing up doodoobricks. Then again, teams still guard Corey Brewer lol sorry sorry I had to...

Yeah, backing off of a perimeter player like that is one way to stop motion offenses from passing, so someone either has to come back to the ball (ala GSW when Bogut got put on an island out there) or shoot.

And further on replay, interesting to see we actually had two out of three of the players on the court with best rebounding position...as Dekker dove in.

Ne has always had a good touch. He hasn't been asked to use the range as much as he's been able to this season. Based on Mike's style, I'm assuming that shooting-bigs will always have some available minutes on a MDA team. Channing Frye became who he is because of the 3 point line. Sure, he's had a decent career, but I'm always going to question why a (near) 7-footer never developed a post game. We were spoiled by having Hakeem...

Anyway, a sharp-shooting big isn't the answer to our problems right now, IMO.

I initially took it to mean the Rockets, but it's worded very vaguely.

    5/40 in his career. That's 12.5%

No one on our squad with a green light ever had a percentage that low.

...but I'd rather him take one of Brewer's 3PAs per game and give it to Nene.

    Just sayin'

Also a nice job by Dekker swinging the ball around to Nene. I hope we see the big guy hoist some more of those. He's got a sweet shot.

Just becuse he has a bad percentage it doesn't mean he has to be bad at it...could be a sample size of mostly last second shots that weren't high percentage.....form looks decent enough to allow him to do it and I feel like he can't be worse than Brewer at this point..
