That was easily the worst Parts Unknown episode Ive ever watched. I dont think it could get more boring than that.

Well Houston isn't exactly the most fascinating city but thought it was a good episode. Obviously focusing on the multi-cultural aspect of Houston so ya there were a lot of stories.

I loved the episode, but man, it was really obnoxious/cringeworthy to see the Indians dancing in the aisles. You can kind of tell Bourdain was unamused. It not only transcends that instance, but everything. Our people have to show out like that for no damn reason. To me, the cricket scene was sufficient to show the South Asian side of Houston.

The best parts of any Bourdain show are where its natural. People minding their own business, and he just visits. No need for all this dancing ****.

It was heartwarming to see and hear the stories of the kids at Lee HS. Much respect for Bourdain for sitting in and having lunch with them.

Also, loved the Heems outro. But I'm curious as to what Heems' relation is to Houston, as I think he's from Queens?

Nonetheless, much respect to Bourdain for his newfound enjoyment in Houston, and for saying that this episode might surprise people and their perceptions of Houston.

Damn it, I love my city.

Lee High School, Himalaya, Burns BBQ, Keemat Grocers, The Point in Palacios. Hung out with Slim Thug and looked at swangas. Hung out with Congolese farmers and a multi-ethnic family in the burbs. Watched cricket. Went to a quinceaƱera.

    For sure.

The first restaurant featured - Himalaya...easily one of the best restaurants in the city in terms of food, but by far the most shady place and horrible customer service. The owner is a jackass who yells at employees in front of his customers.

Imo, I guess it kind of depends on whether the dancing is a regular thing or they were trying to suck up to Bourdain and his show by doing it? If the restaurant is known for doing it, then one should expect it to happen on the show if they do it regularly. If it's really a bad experience as you claim, then why do they do it? Do we need to get Chef Gordon Ramsey in there to yell at them?

Ya enjoyed the Lee HS bit the most. The grocery store party was too much of a show.

Parts Unknown is more of a travel show than a food show, so I can understand why this episode focused so much on the fact that Houston is the most diverse city in the US, as opposed to specific restaurants. It's never going to be like a classed-up version of Diners, Drivers, and Dives.

I dp get why for a local it might not seem that interesting, but as a non-Houstonian I enjoyed it.

It's important to note that food is usually a small focus in parts unknown. The episode was fine but any Houstonian is going to have questions about why this was included or why this wasn't. Probably the same with any city. I didn't like the whole supermarket dancing segment, didn't seem real at all and if it wasn't, what's the point?

Went there once and the owner was nice. He asked me the name of a Vietnamese dish because I think he was interested in making it or some type of fusion. He ended up giving my girlfriend and me free desserts for it. Nice guy. I think his name is Kaiser.
