"Very curious DMo wouldn't bet on himself when he can get a max contract next year with a rising cap if he truly thinks he can stay healthy and produce. Morey let the market set the price on DMo, and the market said the QO was his price." "Brooklyn could over pay for DMo like a lot of teams do when they want someone. But they haven't done it...."
Very simply, when the team signs a vet to an $80 million dollar deal that plays your position and was basically given the starting spot and then you were recruited by the incoming coach to be a super sub off the bench the risk is greater that the opportunity won't be there to prove your true value. Especially on this team in this system with this coach, who is prone to go small more often than not. Not to mention risk of injury is a substantial concern for any player, not just DMo. It's the reason why even healthy players like Steven Adams, etc., would rather sign an extension now, even though they may essentially be giving up some money now. DMi is no different. He wants a little security. And he KNOWS more security is available to him if he holds out a while here. You guys that think him and BJ are dumb don't know what you're talking about.
DMo is a 4/5. If DMo had opted in earlier, Nene may not have been signed or not play very much. The Rockets aren't going to wait around to build their roster for DMo. Yet... No other team offered DMo anything. DMo simply isn't in a position to get "security" he's in a "prove it" situation. Steven Adams has clearly proven himself. Yule C. AmIrite?
Maybe that is why he is holding out; if he is only getting one year of guaranteed money, why not wait until January to come back so he has more time to heal and less time to get worn down before the season ends?
Be a bold move. He would have to fit in seamlessly and produce at a high level after not playing NBA level competition for an extended amount time. Rockets could be rolling by then and not be as willingly to work DMo in too or could have a trade lined up.
Wouldn't be bold at all. Morey would basically tell him to go F himself till summertime. Then what? It's not like we're going to be a DMo away from a championship by January.
Those who think Morey will cave and give DMo more than he wants to are sadly mistaken. The Rockets aren't contenders and are clearly trying to remain flexible. Why would Daryl break the bank for a team that isn't contending? He's already turned down opportunities in the past to improve the team when they were actually contenders in favor of remaining flexible. He stubbornly kept Asik on the team when we could have had Courtney Lee and Bass. Why would he change now when this team isn't as good as that one was?
There's a reason why you're not a player agent. Nene agreed to a deal on July 6th, the day before the moratorium ended. And Nene agreed to play for a third to a fourth of his market value because he wanted to come home. To think DMo should have agreed to the qualifying offer during the moratorium before Nene signed is absurd.
That's the question they can't seem to answer. They think it's fine that Morey broke the bank for an injury prone one dimensional player coming off of 2 down seasons, but at the same time they think that Morey shouldn't offer DMo any more than the QO. It's kind of odd.
It's not about "should". It's about what you have to do. He had to offer Anderson that money, and he believes the asset is fluid, and the player will always be valuable to a James Harden team. He doesn't have to offer D-Mo anything other than 2 years with 2nd year being a team option. I also want to say for the millionth time, it's ridiculous to claim that D-Mo's market value is the QO or less. If teams were willing to pay him 7-8m per season, they would NOT have offered it to him because they knew that it would be matched. His market value is what teams are willing to offer. Restricted free agency changes the entire concept of market value.
Because he had an OK and then good seasons after coming back from back surgery and his game should fit Harden's to a T. To put in in perspective for this thread, Anderson's season coming off back surgery is just as good as D-Mo's best season, really his only good one. Even more, Anderson proved he was still productive coming back from back surgery, whereas D-Mo hasn't proven ****. In fact, he looked like complete garbage. Whether or not his back is even fully recovered is still very much a legitimate concern. Facts are facts though and the fact is, no one is offering D-Mo anything or at least anything worth mentioning.
There's a reason why you aren't an insider. Does that somehow discount the fact that DMo plays the 4/5? Does that discount the fact that no one has made DMo an offer? No one wants offer DMo a "security" contract. Does that discount the fact DMo's best shot at making the most money comes from actually playing NBA basketball? Nothing you say adds up.
Offering market value is in no way breaking the bank. Good lord. Pretty sad that multiple people repped that. It's pretty clear that the D in DMo stands for 'delusional', for the player and fans alike.
Every team in the league says no to swapping D-Mo for a rotation player. Otherwise they would have made an offer to beat the Rockets' offer. Not one team did. 'holic, you know the questions because I've posted them several times (you/bobby have answered zero times): 1. With his value at rock-bottom, why would he want a multi-year deal? If he has any belief in his ability to contribute, why a multi-year at so low a price when all he has to do is show value on a one-year deal and he is guaranteed to get a much larger payday? The only thing that makes sense is that he and BJ think this may be his last deal and are trying to get as much as they can before he's exposed. 2. If he has any belief in himself at all, why not do the ONE AND ONLY thing he can do to get his value up and sign the one-year deal? He just failed a physical and when he came back he still didn't look right. He hasn't looked right in over a year. Why would the Rockets raise their offer for a player that hasn't proved he can play anymore? You keep citing other players dong similarly but each of those players has proven his value time and again, including Ryan Anderson. D-Mo absolutely has not. He had one half of one good season over a year ago. If he wants a raise, he needs to show he's worth it. You joke and joke about T. Jones but D-Mo hasn't shown us anything more than Jones has for over a year. And when he did it was very short-lived. I could cherry-pick the good Jones games too and make the case he's worth more than D-Mo because at least he didn't fail a physical causing a rescinded trade. Why is D-Mo scared to prove himself? Why ask for multiple years at 8 million when if he's worth even a little, being so big, he would definitely get more than that next summer if he showed people he's not permanently broken. Why on earth would he want a multi-year deal? Joke all you want but neither you nor bobby, in all your infinite posts on the topic, has ever answered this simple, common-sense question. And you say there's "so much fail" in the last few pages. You're right. There is. But it's all your fails and bobby's. Ask a common sense question and you guys ignore it and go back to the Yule C nonsense. It's a joke here now and it's making you two guys (whom I suspect are not at all two different guys) a joke too.
