No... they fired Greg Roman and promoted from within; no "outside voice." If you want an outside voice in-season, you're left with the unwanted/unemployed (hey, Greg Roman's available!)

I agree with the concept - but we won't see any fruits of the idea until next season.

I don't think it'll be that ambiguous - first of all, "average" would be a significant improvement. Secondly, we already have a decent idea who's to blame - after all, BOB has won games with some terrible QBs, Last, this isn't necessarily about results; heck, it may not be about results at all. Brock looks completely and totally lost. If the offense just *looks* better, Savage is finding guys more open, etc - what he does with those receivers is almost irrelevant (other than confirming he's better/no better).

Funny thing is, THEY'RE NOT GOOD AT HOME.

They've trailed 4th quarter half the games and haven't yielded a decisive victory yet.

Didn't Bob hire Dan Reeves as a consultant, and he affirmed that the Texans could win with David Carr at QB?

I swear if I hear "we had a great week of practice" one more f***ing time...

It's become the replacement for battlefightin.

    Something like that.

Dan Reeves later denied that he gave a vote of confidence to Carr

Just a year or two ago McNair said they always have outside consultants evaluate every year. That's working out. Are they hired by Rick Smith?

There are others available. Past fired head coaches. Mike Shanahan, Coughlin, or maybe throw money at one of the media guys - Mariucci, Billick. I'm not opposed to promoting from the inside. Just someone with a different perspective.
We saw some progress when O'Brien said he was taking over play-calling. You never know.
Brock's worst games have come on the road against very good defenses. Savage is not going to face that test this season. Do we know who is to blame? Kubiak got more out of Brock last year. Are we sure the coach is not the problem? I'm not saying it is, just that we can't come up with any conclusions yet.

Contrary to message board belief, Savage did not look better than Brock in training camp, in preseason, or anywhere else. I'm just not convinced about him. I think the problem with this offense is more than just with the QB.

I agree part of the problem is coaching and the OL. Brock put up respectable numbers in Denver

That said, he also got benched for a guy who could barely throw

He got benched for Peyton Manning; let's not bury the lead and pretend it was Matt Cassel. In fact, had it been Cassel, Osweiler would not have benched. And the QB switch made almost no difference; in fact, they may have been better off with Brock, considering he could throw the ball further than 8 yards.

That was a situation way beyond Brock's control.

    Clevelandville is comical ineptitude.

We're simply on the treadmill of mediocrity.

Its not that we can't be annoyed at redundant generic coach-speak. It is grating

Its - whats really the ALTERNATIVE that they're "supposed" to say instead?

Though NFL serves up entertainment for fan amusement, team personnel likes to protect their JOBS, keep strategy internal away from the opponent, and maintain locker room harmony "in-house". So its gonna be 78 straight weeks of "good practice", or generalized comments like "we need to execute better", in place of a juicy critical sound byte

Just say anything else. I know BO'B isn't going to throw anyone under the bus. Just quit acting like he's so f***ing clueless as to why they lost a game based on "having a great week of practice." Just, for once, when it happens, say "we simply had the wrong game plan and we got our asses kicked." That goes over much better than "Well golly gee, George. I don't know what happened."

Fired? Hell, BO'B will get coach of the year votes if they win the division with Osweiler's crappy QB play and playing the season without JJ.

The Factory of Sadness has 2 trips to the NBA Finals, 1 Championship and 1 epic World Series Game 7 to their name in the last couple of years.

I'd trade our bullsh!t for that plus the Browns any day.

No way. Nope. I wouldn't trade the Astros for the Indians and I sure wouldn't trade the Texans for the Browns - you want to talk about a Factory of Sadness... I've never heard of the "NBA" - is that something?

Its really 1 calendar year of greatness for them... with enough suck before that they spent 3+ years working on that ESPN documentary (Beliveland) going over the pain of being a Cleveland sports fan, with no expectation of anything turning around any time soon.

So, yeah... when there's finally enough suck and pain to get a Houston documentary out there... that's when things may start to turnaround.

I didn't realize this but the Texans are on of the least penalized teams in the league according to http://www.nflpenalties.com/. Averaging 5.25 accepted penalties per game.

BoB is 2-3 really good OL (tackle-center-guard) away from having the type of offensive team he wants. From what I can see, that would reduce the pressure on Osweiler to play outside of his comfort zone (he's an Alex Smith that BoB is asking to be a Aaron Rogers), allow them to run the ball with authority (ala Dallas) and put together long scoring drives.
