if i was a citizen back then i would be mad it did nothing to resolve the issue (which is what i wrote). Remember that civil war that still happened? Compromise quite often leads to kicking the can down the road (again what i wrote).
It's a very weird example. Sometimes there's no resolving issues in such a manner. Compromises can work and they can't work. Nothing ground breaking here.
The fact of the matter is ACA is a middle ground approach. It tries too hard to please too many special interest groups and is certainly not a progressive solution as single payer was never viable as Democrats couldn't get behind this. The only reason the GOP doesn't support any of it is because if Obama takes the position the sky is blue, they'll take the position it is green. Hence why the GOP has sabotaged this country. They have no solutions and intentionally cause gridlock to make government more ineffective than it needs be.
Obama is a thug and criminal. You agree or work with Obama, then you're a thug and criminal too. /Republican primary logic
The reason the GOP wasn't behind it was because they are bought out by special interest groups.... just like the Democrats. And gridlock is intentional. This is why we have three different branches of government and why we divide up congress. When one group has complete control of government, we get shitty legislation like Obamacare.
The exchange is usually what is referred to when people say Obamacare plans. Most people still receive the same employer based plan they had.
Nah son. Obama says the sky is blue, they will say it is green. No, we have three branches of government for checks and balances. Gridlock is a byproduct of the GOP and their lack of ideas and being scared of the brown dude with the foreign sounding name. Is that why single payer happened? Stop acting like democrats and republicans vote as a single block, it's incorrect no matter how many times it is said. Bottomline, the GOP sabotaged the government in order to make it ineffective. When your party's platform is "government is the problem", any surprise they intentionally make it ineffective as possible.
Let me see if I have this right dmoney. the GOP goes against Obamacare and they say exactly why it will be terrible and fail. it fails exactly the way they say it will and it takes about 6 years to happen. you believe the reason the GOP didn't support Obamacare is out of spite even though they tried to stop legislation that greatly hurts Americans as they said it would? you don't have an honest rational bone in your body.
Actually most of the things the GOP claimed were bad about Obamacare aren't true. They were right that it wouldn't work, but that's not actually what they spent most of their time raising hell about at the time, it was mostly about how it would hurt Medicare, create death panels etc. and then of course the big part that it was wrong to force people to buy insurance.
If you paint anything in such broad strokes then you can make your logic fit. If pro-Obama people wanted to say that their goal was the lowest rate of uninsured people ever, they'd be right too. Those now-covered people aren't "greatly hurt". The people who already had existing employer coverage aren't hurt at all. From the healthcare side, moving more people out of the unfunded/self-pay group into obamacare policies signficantly improves the payer mix for healthcare institutions thus improving financial viability. That's something that is a positive for everyone, because the immediate prior period where hospitals had to write off billions of dollars of care because the patient's couldn't pay was a huge drain on the system.
Let me see if I have this right, Doc Tal. The GOP and some select Democrats come out during the construction of the health care proposal and makes sure that the elements that will make Obamacare a success can't get into the bill despite the fact that a majority of Democrats wanted them in the bill because it would be a better more workable system. But instead of being able to pass the system most Democrats wanted they had to pass the version that the GOP was saying wouldn't work, and then it didn't work?
Please tell me what is so un-conservative about ACA that the GOP literally offered nothing? Please tell me. Infrastructure spending right after the economic crash of 2008? Nope. Lets not create jobs and make the economic situation worse. Boomers retiring in mass in 2020, exacerbating our entitlement system? Nope. Lets not do anything. Fortunately, ACA addresses medicare and shores it up a bit. Apparently expecting the GOP doing their job is a foreign concept to you Tallanvor. Apparently excepting the GOP to offer solutions to issues facing our country is foreign too you Tallanvor. Like I said, there's not motive to fix anything when your mantra is "government is the problem". Sad and pathetic people keep voting for that nonsense but when the budget explodes due to entitlements from the boomers, just remember your impotent stance.
Republicans had nothing to do with the construction of Obamacare. I know the knee jerk thing to do is to blame either the GOP or "the previous administration" for every one of Obama's screw ups, but you just can't do that this time. Obamacare was a Democrat only situation. It was modified from it's original intention in order to help get enough Democrats on board to pass it.....even then that wasn't enough so they had to outright bribe others with pork in order to get the votes they needed to pass that turd of a bill. The GOP said that Obamacare would fail because it was ill conceived, it failed because it was ill conceived even before Obama left office.....but now somehow that's the fault of Republicans who had nothing at all to do with it.
The easiest temporary solution is a federally funded public option, but would anyone in the GOP be willing to make it work? Not a chance. I am sure the Democrats wanted a public option originally, but cannot get enough support.
The easiest option would be to scrap the whole thing and start over. Of course, given who is about to win the election, the most likely scenario is that they'll just keep dumping money into it convincing people it'll work and then when it fails, blame Republicans and dump even more money into it. That's sort of the only play on the playbook as of late. A public option would be "VA healthcare for everyone" and it would be insanely expensive and not long before people complain about how terrible the health care provided is compared to when they had private insurance. Of course, no matter what happens, it'll be hailed as a great success until it completely collapses and then it'll be blamed on the GOP. Single play playbook.
