He's the one that wanted Fuller despite his obvious pass catching flaws and on top of that, he's the one putting him on the field and calling plays for him.....so yeah, he kind of can be blamed for it. When it comes to Nuk's bad routes, I remember at least 2 where he flat out ran the wrong route altogether and another off the top of my head where he ran the route poorly and it led to an interception. He's seriously struggled this year for one reason or the other. Maybe he's pouting over not getting the contract he wanted, maybe he's not as motivated this season after breaking out last year. Who knows why. In the end, everything is on BOB due to the nature of his position on the team. If you know the O line is in shambles and you know that you don't have a between the tackles RB, maybe don't run that RB into the line between the tackles time and time again? Maybe don't set up situations where you are going to have multiple 3rd and long plays where the blitz is coming strong and the O line won't block for a QB that is struggling? I mean, there's ways of coaching around shortcomings, hell look at what the hoodie did to the Texans with a scrub 3rd string rookie QB that couldn't throw the ball even before he got injured. BOB simply has failed the team this season and he needs to step it up or that seat needs to get hot. I'm not normally on the "fire everyone" bandwagon, but his performance this season has been unacceptable.
Can't argue with much of what you said, I am just giving him a bit more wiggle room because of injuries. I think injuries alone explain a great deal of our problems -- not all, but many. I don't mind them drafting Fuller. Many WRs come out with issues dropping passes and still go on to be good WRs. He's certainly had some big drops, but he's also had some really good plays. He's a rookie. Totally agree about the run game, but I think that's because we have no faith in our O line with all the injuries. Still, they should run to the edge rather than between the tackles -- you're right.
The Texans will win the division . . . . . Cannot fire a coach after winning the division Rocket River
The AFC South is a magical place where you can underachieve to the point where everyone hates watching the team play yet still comfortably win the division.
If this year breaks the same way last year did - (virtually) zero wins against better competition and a quick, painful playoff exit, I sure hope the Texans don't view it as a success. That's where I am - against better teams, the Texans are routinely getting hammered. Kansas City has to be kicking itself that they let one slip away against us.
Basically the only way the team can improve in the coaching area is for the other teams in our division to get better. . . better than us and then start hammering the Texans then and only then will they consider a change but as long as we 8-8 winning the division or almost winning with a nice 1st round demolishing. . . .coaching won't change That said. . BOB has to the end of the year to show some improvement If we less than 10 wins . .. . it means he sucks ass If we less than 10 wins next year. . . . he should be fired NOW! I understand injuries etc (Which reminds me. . what's up with the medical staff and the trainers?) But we should go 5-1 at worse in the division They should be able to pick up 5 more games elsewhere even with the injuries Rocket River
At this point, I think BOB needs to show more than just improvement; we need to see signs that whatever success he has is sustainable. He can't continue to get thoroughly dick-stomped by the league's better teams. They need to go *at least* 4-2 against Detroit, Oakland, San Diego, @ Indianapolis, @ Green Bay, Cincinnati. And they need to win a playoff game. That's about where I am, in terms of BOB's hot seat: a 7-2 finish + a playoff win. (I'll accept 6-4 IF in the four losses, they play well and are competitive.) Anything short of that and I think he needs to be fired. That OR... Osweiler going prime-Brady on the league the final nine weeks, wins be damned.
I'm really not looking forward to another coaching search. It's such a gamble. I would rather hire an offensive assistant and then let Godsey go.
This is why we need to hope Osweiler is sidelined for 3-4 weeks; we need to know if it's the QB or the system.
You can also answer that by hiring an offensive assistant. Don't fire Godsey until you see a major improvement in the offense.
That's a years-long process, though... There's not going to be any viable assistants available in-season, and integrating that person's experience into BOB's system - and we'll just assume that'll be an easy transition BOB won't fight or undermine - can only happen during the offseason, which then leads to Osweiler - who is showing no grasp of the current system - having to learn a brand new modified version of it... No; we need a sprained knee. Quick and easy.
Its not a great testament when the "best" this offense has looked over the last 3 years has been when BOB basically scrapped the entire system in games that Yates and Keenum had to start.
Not necessarily. Worked in Buffalo. Sorta. An advantage of bringing in an assistant or advisor is they can be an outside voice that can answer that question for you. It doesn't have to be an overhaul of the system. All it might take may be a tweak here or there. Maybe it's just a change in the route tree or in the rushing scheme. An injury doesn't necessarily answer the questions you have. What if Savage comes in and plays average? What if he only plays well against bad defenses? What if he gets injured again? What if he plays well but the plays were "dumbed down" for him? What if he plays bad because the offensive line isn't giving him time? We could end up with even more questions than answers.
why are our wide receivers running into more coverage. feels like the opposing D is playing with 13 players. And when the TE and RB are open, our qb hears footsteps in his head when it's all clear and throws the ball just a bbbbbbbittttt outside. =/ This offense makes me miss the offensive juggernaut that was that 2002 texans team!
It's like there's no imagination whatsoever with our play-calling. Handoff up the middle for 2 yard gain 3 yard out completion, no YAC Draw play up the middle for 1 yard gain (from shotgun formation) Punt
To be fair, those play-calls (especially the runs) are probably counting on excellent execution from the blocking up front to be successful... something that is just not happening on a consistent basis. The line has been spotty... and when it is doing its job, the QB isn't delivering consistently enough. You see a lot of the motion up front with TE's coming in to run-block... and there's always the option, based on what the defense is showing, that they audible to a pass. But its just all dis-jointed. No rhythm. Poor execution. Timely penalties. If it gets dumbed down, chances are they find something that works more often than not, and milk it till it gets stopped.
