Can't blame him for the precedent established by coaches who have an eye for the next job as he's only following suit.
Jimmy Sexton is his agent so he is going to be mentioned for every available opening in the country. It was the same way with Sumlin he was mentioned for 3 jobs heading into the CUSA Championship game and the team was not prepared for the biggest game in the past 30 years of the program.
If you hear it in context, it makes more sense. He means the way UH viewed OU and FSU is how AAC opponents view UH. The amount of prep (and how hyped) this team put into playing FSU and OU is the amount of prep (and how hyped) AAC opponents were putting into playing UH.
When is the last time that UT got the head football coach they coveted the most? Look at the list of UT head football coaches over the years.... Herman may end up at UT but it isn't a done deal.
This is the biggest load of BS. Herman was NOT ever going to South Carolina, and the idea that a loss to Citadel changed his opinion is absurd. The school that he was willing to listen to was on the other side of the country, and screwed up by not having him as their top or second candidate. That same school is likely to have an opening again this spring.
I thought I had heard Sexton, but if Trace Armstrong is his agent it doesn't really matter which one it is because his name is mentioned for every opening. I just think the UH fan base is jaded and expect the worse because we are looking at losing our 3rd coach in 10yrs. Its beyond frustrating and we can't do a thing about it.
So, I don't believe any report about a deal between UT and Herman. I also am not saying that he is definitely leaving UH. However, would you guys be in favor of Major becoming the head coach IF Herman does leave?
1) Yeah, sure he will. 2) This is the thing about speculation. There is no way for him to be "incorrect" here. He's tip-toeing up to the point of breaking a story, but in reality he has not placed any commitment on it. If Herman leaves, he gets to claim he "scooped" it. If Herman doesn't, he'll just say the deal fell through. He has no skin in the game.
I would not hire Major Applewhite. OCs Kendal Briles(too raw still?) Lincoln Riley Sonny Cumbie/Doug Meacham Not sure why they'd leave Jeff Brohm(HC Western Kentucky) Jason Candle(HC Toledo) P.J. Fleck(HC Western Michigan) Scott Satterfield(HC Appalachian State) Sonny Dykes?(if he's looking to come back to Texas? Meh) Clay Helton?(if USC moves on? Meh) Lane Kiffin? (Meh) Dan Mullen/Rich Rod if they're fired? (Meh)
