what about it? It wasn't spectacular but Defense did enough to put the offense in position to win a game. 3 RZ opportunities coming away with 9 pts and a fumble in their own territory, you aren't going to win in the NFL that way.
Obviously he won't be fired mid seasons. And there's virtually no chance he is fired in the offseason. Remember who the ulitmate decision maker of this organization is. He doesn't fire people readily. He instead gives them extensions. I kind of like O'brien as a HC... EXCEPT with every passing weak. He has too much pride to apparently ditch his complex system and just run simple plays that will work given our personnel. Yes, a lot of it is on Brock with throws that are just off, or stare downs. But I still think he's generally playing better than the stats show, and playcalling is not helping him at all. I said it last week, and will repeat it this week... predictability. Every play is predictable. From the snap cadence to the play itself, to the execution of the play. When the defense generally knows what you're doing, they lock you down. And this is especially true of great defenses.
I'm all for blaming Brock and coaching and not putting points on the board, but that defense sucked last night. The broncos had a noodle arm QB last year and were fine, Brock actually didnt throw an INT and I'm not convinced that was a fumble. Giving up 27 points and 176 rushing yards to that offense is disgusting. But whatever, this is blame Brock only day...
Going into that game there was. Their D was weak in running game, strong in passing game. But their Offense was horrible in both. It doesn't matter, just trying to make the point that literally every part of the team sucked last night.
Bottom 5 run defense, meh. Gotta do a better job coaching, better job executing. Texans gashed by running game The Texans entered the game ranked fourth from the bottom of the NFL in rushing defense, allowing 126.3 yards per game. "I think after a while, they did a good job of blocking the edge," Texans coach Bill O'Brien said. "They had a couple of toss crack plays that were really good, schemed up for some of the fronts that we have. I thought at times we did a better job. I saw Whitney [Mercilus] made a few plays and 'J.D.' [defensive end Jadeveon Clowney] made a few plays. "It's the same thing with our whole football team. Our whole team has to be more consistent. If we can figure that out pretty quickly, then we have something going. We're too up and down right now and that's why we're 4-3." There was a lot of arm tackling by the Texans in the open field, a season-long trend for the defending AFC South champions. "Obviously the numbers show that, just look at the stat sheet," Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph said. "We didn't do a good job in the run support. Anytime you want to give yourself a chance to win, stopping the run is one of the first things you have to do."
You're right it does sound more believable than Bill OBrien "offensive genius" thought this guy was a franchise QB
BOB was supposed to be the QB whisperer but we were reminded last night of who really holds that title
BoB presser on now. Same old BS: We've got to coach better, play better, do a better job of teaching and executing yada yada yada. You can literally put a cardboard cutout of him at the podium and simply play his tired ass excuse fest over and over. I really wanted to believe in him but now I see that he's simply out of his depth here and hasn't any clue as to what to do. Which means that come 2017 they'll be looking at yet another head coach to come in and turn around this mess. I'm not looking for superbowls or AFC championships - all I want is for them to field a respectable football team...for a change. At least then, they'll be able to wash the stench of the Oilers from my mouth.
Somewhat. He still tries to do everything with his zone blocking scheme and play action game... but he has learned from past mistakes a bit though (and was forced to last year).
I don't who he is or much about him but if you want him fired, hit me up. I successfully campaigned against McFail so I have experience in this field.
First part of post, agreed. Second part... um... yes, I am looking for championships and Superbowls. In the major sports leagues you go through periods where a couple of teams dominate for relatively long stretches. NBA: Bulls, Spurs, Rockets (briefly), Lakers, Heat, Warriors. Some overlap, and some other hanger on's in there (90's Jazz and Sonics, 90's Knicks, Thunder). NFL: Steelers, Cowboys, Patriots, then mix in some Broncos (3 rings over 2 eras), Seahawks (just one ring, but dominant type team over 4+ years), then consistently good teams maybe with a ring - Colts, Packers, Ravens, Giants (perhaps an exception, but 2 rings). So yes, I'd like to be in that group. And o-line issues aside, ON PAPER, would it have been shocking if the Texans turned into that this year. With O'Brien, a seemingly above par coach and RAC a seemingly above par DC, both from a great coaching tree. With a defense that not all time dominant, stacked with talent, and if healthy in Watt one of the best defenders ever. With an offense no with "amazing, exciting!" speed. And an unknown QB, but one that did pretty good in his starts to date, with all the tools on paper, etc. Hey look, that's still a possibility... but is increasingly VERY unlikely. It's okay to have bad games, and even ok to be 4-3, but they've been flat out embarrassed in their losses and even in the wins, Coach/QB combo - which is huge in basically all of those "dynastic" teams - hasn't been anywhere close to looking like it will get there. I see no reason why fans shouldn't expect a 5-10 year period of dominance with multiple Superbowl rings. Since 1998, which is a little far back at what 19 seasons but to prove the point... the Ravens have 2 rings, the Patriots 4 in 6 trips, the Giants 2, the Steelers 2, the Broncos 3 in 4 trips, the Seahawks 1 ring in 3 SB trips, the Packers 1 ring in 2 trips, the Colts 1 ring in 2 trips, the RAMS 1 ring in 2 trips. So that's 9 teams with at least 1 superbowl ring and MULTIPLE superbowl trips. Then you have the TB Bucs with 1 ring in 1 trip and the Saints with 1 ring in 1 trip. So that's 2 more teams with at least 1 ring. And finally, those that made the party but left without a goodybag, the Panthers with 0 rings but 2 trips, and then the Falcons, Titans, Raiders, Eagles, Bears, Cardinals, and 49ers, all of whom have been to a Superbowl. So that's 8 more teams. So over the last 19 seasons, we're looking at 19 teams that have at least been to a Superbowl. Not sure what year the Texans started - I think 2002, right? So if I change the criteria to 2002, the only team that comes off the list is the Faclons. So 18 teams been to at least 1 Superbowl over the last 14/15 seasons. The Texans suffer from the fact that they play in the same conference as the Patriots, Steelers, Broncos and Colts - the more dynastic teams in the group - but still let's not only ask for a consistently above average team. Let's ask for a dynastic team for once.
