Or if he isn't turning up to the tests, then perhaps he is ruining his career by not pissing? I dunno, sounded funnier in my head.
A career destroyed because the NBA won't stop testing for MJ because "family entertainment." Meanwhile, on court, in front of cameras, severely underpay women to dance for a mostly male audience that mostly has no interest in the art of dancing. Family entertainment indeed. Hypocrites. If the rules are the rules, f the rules. Make millions elsewhere and explore a different culture. Still one of the best jobs on the planet.
What? Who gives a damn whether the NBA pretends to be "family entertainment" ? The point is that McGary gave up millions for pounding a leather ball just because he could not give up pot. And he is a gigantic moron for doing that.
Some things are more important than money. No, not weed. But the principle of giving up the freedom of doing whatever you want to your body for an immoral hypocritical employer. If the weed affects his performance, the teams will get rid of him. If Michael Jordan could be Michael Jordan while smoking weed at home, who the F gives a F? Why should someone ruin that person's career and cost them millions of dollars of money from fans who are willing to watch them in the limited role of playing basketball? Also, he didn't give up playing basketball. And he is going to make millions. I give a F that the NBA is destroying careers, driving people to use anti inflammatory medication, favoring alcoholism, etc. Your argument is such that if your boss tells you to bend over and let him ream you for a few hours everyday in exchange for a million bucks, you'd say to someone who refuses "YOU GAVE UP A MILLION DOLLARS BECAUSE YOU'RE PARTICULAR ABOUT A CERTAIN TYPE OF SEX". It's not a rational argument. It's not about weed. It's not about Mitch McGary. It's about the league being abusive anti-scientific hypocrites. This rule is arbitrary and totally unrelated to the spirit of the agreement between the league, fans and players.
As someone that was stoned for my entire college career, this is so true. I quit for a 54k job, after 6 years of heavy use, and I was damn happy. Left that job a year later, went somewhere more liberal, and smoked every day again. If someone offered me millions of dollars to throw a ball through a hoop, I'd pretend I'd never seen a joint in my life.
