My company is self funded (large 20k + employees) insurance plan and our premium's rose about 3 dollars this year. I had to add my newborn daughter and it was an extra 30 dollars per month. I am not on the exchanges, so I cannot comment.
Employer plans were hit much less than individual plans and self funded employer plans were hit even less by virtue of being exempt from much of the law
It has always been called Obamacare. It wasn't until the liberals finally pulled their heads out of their ass in regards to this colossal failure that liberals wanted to call it the ACA. And the liberals response; "but but but the Republicans didnt have an idea". This was a dead turd walking and nothing could save it. Now the liberals think the public option is the savior. Exactly how is this going to fix the current problem of skyrocketing healthcare? We should have let pre-existing conditions buy into medicare and let the private insurers handle the rest ... or socialize medicine completely. This in between nonsense is not going to work.
I'll say it again, healthcare will be expensive as long as we as a population is unhealthy and aging.
Why haven't Republicans suggested this? Your side doesn't have an idea it can rally around, nothing. As much as I think ACA sucks, I will always blame Republicans the most. I can't stand fools who can do nothing but complain.
Single payer was not going to happen. Its still not going to happen. I am not sure why we are bringing this up. Why build a policy that is going to harm so many? And honestly, you're a complete moron if you could not see why Obamacare was a utter failure from day 1. What would happened if the Republicans put forth a decent presidential nominee and they repealed this turd? We would still extremely high cost plans because people have accepted it and the insurance companies would screw every and those with pre-existing conditions would be screwed. I pay $1000 a year for not having a compliant plan. I also pay $75.00 a month for a plan with a $500.00 out of pocket deductible. Yes, this plan does not cover pre-existing conditions of any sort. But i would gladly pay in $200.00 a month extra to medicare if it covered pre-existing conditions. Granted pre-existing conditions cover a huge chunk of overall medical costs, why are we letting insurance companies add profit/margin on top of this? That logic is INSANE. And you liberals swallowed this bullshit hook, line and sinker. Insurance companies should have NEVER been allowed to touch pre-existing conditions. Its the exact OPPOSITE of where we need to be, which is a single payer system.
For whatever reason the basic assumption escaped you apparently. I'm not sure why you insist in trying to waste my time but I'm betting it doesn't happen again. Good luck.
To clarify, I dont have a side. I am not the one self-identifying with a party. Of course you will blame someone else other than yourself. Liberals (and Republicans) never take responsibility for their actions. This is why nothing gets done. Quit faulting the Republicans on this one. Democrats had the majority. Obama wanted a legacy, a champion of his presidency. Obamacare was it. He wanted massive overhaul, not incremental changes. If a politician can not understand the concept of why giving insurance companies a monopoly over our healthcare industry, then they have no business being a politician.
You're on Obamacare? That's one of the big issues in discussing Obamacare. There are so many variables we need to know to be able to discuss it intelligently.
Yes, Obama and co caved early to the insurers and didn't trust Pelosi and Reid enough to play hardball.
Why would I be to blame? What could I have done differently? To clarify, I blame Republican legislators. Having the majority doesn't mean much when you can't agree. Just like the Republicans has had Congress for 4 years and they can't agree on much. Democrats have been trying to get healthcare reform for several decades. Is ACA really a massive overhaul? What is so "massively" different than 8 years ago? Republican legislators have consistently opposed all plans while offering nothing, hence they got my blame. It's more than insurance companies. It's hospital purchasing organizations which is the foil to the insurance companies. Most of all, Americans are simply too unhealthy that even if we had a great plan we would still be paying a lot until our populations stops being so obese. All the while we got the Boomers getting ready to retire in mass in these next 4 years.
8 years of Bush and all we got was a medicare prescription overhaul, that started disastrously as well. At the very at least ACA, shored up medicare temporarily.
I don't know how much has been spent on me for insurance in my life but the economics of it all don't really make sense. Maybe I've got my money's worth since I've had 6 orthopedic surgeries before the age of 35 but I'm certainly a major exception to most younger people's medical experience. I don't understand why cosmetic procedures which are just as involved don't seem to see the same inflation as the costs for procedures covered by insurance. I'm at a bar watching the Texans suck balls so forgive me for my lack of amazing facts or insight right now.
When I did the research during Obamacare about why costs were so high, it was mainly. EOL care and emergency room services for the uninsured that drove up costs, the ironic part about finding best practices for further life expectancy is that fatties, cancer men, and daredevils actually have a lower cradle to grave burden, than say someone who lives to 90. I'm not too sober either.
