Sure, but he could have just signed the 4.4 million tender and been a free agent next season instead of playing for less money in Europe to be a restricted free agent again next season.

Got an alternative? There are limited redheads in the league and a limited number of teams Barnes played for. Get to work finding someone else or just don't say anything. You just sound like a hater and that's it.

We've got draft picks, Capela, DMo, Wiltjer, and filler like Brewer to add up to something. Plus Blake might have worn out his welcome over there after the incident with the employee. I am in no way saying that it's going to happen, but it's the only player I and others could find. So it's likely that's who Cod was talking about.

Redhead could be Bonner? Barnes did play for SA.

Motiejunas has standing offers from several clubs in Europe. He's as healthy as he's going to be. The back is a constant worry, but no more so than injuries that are worrisome for a lot of players.

He's still holding out to see if something pops in the NBA, but it is looking more and more like he'll head to Europe for a year and then come back and go through the whole circus again next summer. But this time he may just sign the QO and gain his freedom in the summer of 2018.

and a limited number of teams Barnes played for?

I guess if, if you want to call 10 teams a limited number. But I do agree with your point.

Haha, right? It's just a hair under 28 teams it seems.

Thanks for this! I think it's super risky on Dmos part to leave but we will see what happenes I guess. I wish him well. It will suck if we can't work something out with him.

Not trying to highlight you but I'm troubled by how frequently this logic is cited. In a "free market", like unrestricted free agency, you are worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay. Restricted free agency is not a free market and commensurately is not geared as an equation to solve for a players value.

An example exogenous to RFA: Hassan Whiteside didn't go from being worth league min to superstar max in 2.5 years. The truth was always somewhere in the middle. It was always predicated on Risk:Reward. And, I assure you, coming off his '14/'15 he was worth exponentially more than 770K he made in '14/'15 or the 980k he made in '15/'16. Good ole optionality.

    Similarly, he didn't improve his value by 21 million from '15/'16's 980k to '16/'17's 22mm. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/miami-heat/hassan-whiteside-6915/cash-earnings/

The "Risk" part of DMO's RR equation above has been flagged by others. Pardon the statistical infusion, but undoubtedly GM's run distributions - or expectations - around what they expect from a player. There will be a base or default case, and then stages of escalating and diminishing outcomes. When there is an anomalously higher probability that a far-reaching escalating or diminishing outcome will manifest vs the base case, then it's known as a "fat tail". In this case, that's what we have. Handing out a fully guaranteed 25-35-50-100 million contract with significant underlying fat tail potential warrants the base case to be much higher than DMO's - see Amare Stoudemire, Derrick Rose, Steve Nash, Blake Griffin, Dwayne Wade, Dwight Howard, etc.

I almost feel dirty submitting this lol b/c inherently free market value = value. But the key is to understand that 1) RFA isn't a free market and hence 2) enhances the focus on the "Risk" part of the equation - ergo DMO screwed - for now.

Probably told D-Mo, "You are my MAIN PF." Then they signed Ryan Anderson to a $80M deal. ;)

Whatever the Rockets are looking into, well, obviously they're never done roster-wise; but "red-head"?

Please don't be something lame like Kaman. :) Because it can't be BG; and he's not really a "banger", anyway, is he?
