It's tempting to try it. It's addicting. But don't do it. NOP -- Fastbreak Turnover HOU -- Fastbreak Layup NOP -- Fastbreak Layup (missed) HOU -- Fastbreak Layup NOP -- Timeout McHale was right. D'Antoni makes teams feel pressure to score, and they go outta of their game plan.
This looks like a hold, a hoop, and another hold and then a hoop. MDA is borrowing McHales offensive playbook.
Well, Alvin Gentry is there Head Coach who was the protege to MDA, but he just doesn't have the type of roster to run that offense.
It seems fine when you are playing against the Pelicans, but face a disciplined team like the Spurs and they won't make the same mistakes.
Point is, the mistake is trying to run on MDA. The mistakes aren't fumbling the ball. Other than GSW, who has the 3ptr and AND-1 players to maximize transition pps versus the Rockets. Remember Ortg accounts for 3s and AND1s, so don't get in a face-paced shooting match ... especially San Antonio. That would be like Pops saying, "Hell, I'm going to give MDA his best chance to beat me, and try to out run him."
Ball wasn't sticky, we moved it quickly and we were not f****** hyperventilating out there. McHale and JBB were right again.
Off topic - Dekker has very good hand to catch the pass at 0:30, very impreseive! I find that the fastbreaks under MDA look for more layups instead of jacking threes, thats a very good sign! In the past couple years tt was very frustreated to see the team bricking the long bombs in 3vs2 even 3vs1 fastbreaks.
Dekker isn't getting the attention that Wiltjer is, but he's really progressed. I still think he can play a Chandler Parsons role on this team.
Watching the video, the mistake did seem to be fumbling the ball on the first and a guy who couldn't finish on the second. Maybe you could say on the first give credit to the Rockets defense, that forced the fumble. On the second, yes the bigs came over and challenged without fouling, but the player there needs to score or get to the line... it was bad defense by the Rockets for the most part. If the general idea is that the Rockets will win games generally that are at higher pace, then I agree with that. With the offensive players they have and the coach and system they have, they should be favored when teams try to keep up with them. Some exceptions obviously - the Warriors being key. The real issue will be against the great teams, that can slow the Rockets down a bit and selectively run without making the mistakes the Pelicans did.
This was the four minute stretch in the 1st quarter where the Pelicans went scoreless (stuck at 12 points after Asik dunk). 04:26 NOP 12-11 HOU - Asik Cutting Dunk Shot: Made (2 PTS) Assist: Frazier (4 AST) 04:26 NOP - Asik Free Throw 1 of 1 Missed 04:14 NOP - Cunningham Foul: Personal (1 PF) 04:09 NOP - S Hill Foul: Shooting (1 PF) (2 FTA) 03:58 NOP - Ajinca Turnover : Step Out of Bounds Turnover (1 TO) 03:36 NOP - Moore Turnover : Lost Ball (2 TO) Steal:Harden (1 ST) 03:22 NOP - S Hill Layup Shot: Missed 03:09 NOP - Team Timeout : Regular 03:00 NOP - Ajinca Turnover : Lost Ball (2 TO) Steal:Gordon (2 ST) 02:29 NOP - Moore Jump Shot: Missed 02:17 NOP - Stephenson Foul: Shooting (1 PF) (2 FTA) 01:55 NOP - Galloway 3pt Shot: Missed 01:37 NOP - Galloway Foul: Offensive Charge (1 PF) 01:37 NOP - Galloway Turnover : Foul (1 TO) 01:25 NOP - Ajinca Foul: Shooting (1 PF) (2 FTA) 01:04 NOP - Hield Jump Shot: Missed 00:55.6 NOP - Ajinca Foul: Personal (2 PF) (2 FTA) 00:37.8 NOP - Ajinca Turnover : Bad Pass (3 TO) Steal Dekker (1 ST) 00:16.5 NOP 14-28 HOU - Ajinca Jump Shot: Made (2 PTS)
Meh no Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, bunch of rejects. Those 2 games don't count IMO. Feel bad for Anthony Davis stuck in NO. They're never gonna win.
I haven't seen enough to decide, but you're probably right. Chandler was a good defender for his first two seasons and sort of fell out. Still, I like Dekker's well-rounded offensive game as a bench utility guy in D'Antoni's system.
MDA's Suns could never advance past Pop's Spurs. Granted those mid-2000s Spurs were pretty darn good. Like 2 championships good.
Nice work heyp, but I'll put a good bit of that on a team with crappy ball-handlers handling the ball crappily.
